    Here’s a bit of an alternate perspective from someone who is 46 and didn’t take as many risks as she should have. Yes, you are young and should give yourself space and grace to be young. BUT on the flip side, there’s not a thing wrong with knowing what you want, where you want to go, and hustling to get there IF it’s making you happy. It’s okay to get somewhere five years before someone else. It’s okay to get somewhere five years behind someone else. Comparison KILLS us. YOU set your pace and go at YOUR speed, whatever that is. When something serves you well, do it or use it - when it doesn’t, move on. You’ve got this.

      Agreed! I think I was just longing for a little but of adventure. Not necessarily straying away from my goals, but try to incorporate a bit of life in between. You phrased this amazingly! Thank you!

      I love this comment so much! I turn 30 this year and feel stuck because the last few years I’ve been refining my art. And I just opened a shop, it’s a lot of work and I work full time, but I’d rather do my own thing. Sure it has its own stresses but I’m already sick of the corporate grind. I want something I can call my own, not be underpaid for my creativity and wait until I’m 65 to enjoy life…

    "this vlog is not interesting at all" are you kidding? Running a small business isn't always interesting or glamorous or pretty. Sometimes it's hard and boring and demotivating and tedious and some days you procrastinate and other days you cry or sleep or eat your feelings. Forget interesting, it's realistic! From one small business owner to another, you're doing great :)

    Anytime I feel down about where I am in life and start comparing myself to others, I remind myself that we are all different books. We're all experiencing different chapters in our lives. I can't compare my book to another. Just that tiny reminder helps ease some of that anxiety.

    Everything you were talking about re: being surrounded by older people and thus feeling like you’re losing time and can’t really keep up was SO relatable. Most of my friends are 26+ and I’m 22, and I have felt the same way as you for so many months, but had no idea why. I’m glad I’m not alone and I’m really grateful you shared this with us. I’m going to work on allowing myself to be young ❤️

    Tiffany I remember you saying something about how you always think about the worst case scenario ( I am not a therapist) but I heard something once that said, If your mind can thing of the worst case scenario it ca also think of the best case scenario. I just thought I would say that no matter what you take from it

    Along with all of your instant gratification projects, try to keep an ongoing, harder project. Something that will take you months or years to complete. A painting, a book, a sketchbook. It’ll be a pain in the butt, I’m sure, but also probably something we all should do just to get out of this “I need to do x,y,z” mentality. I’m an artist & almost 35. At 23, I was nowhere near as accomplished, independent, or as financially successful as you are, though I didn’t strive to be then, either. We all have our own goals & are living through a collective trauma right now. Give yourself grace. ❤️❤️❤️

    • @apple.cheeks
      @apple.cheeks  3 года назад +3

      This is such good advice, I do think I'm lacking the patience of ongoing, longer projects because of the social media mentality of always needing to push out work. I've been trying to be more patient in completing sketchbooks so at least I have that going on right now!

      @@apple.cheeks it can be something that you put away when easily frustrated, but something you put on your agenda to do weekly or monthly. It can be private or public. You make your own rules. Be your own client. Do something big for you. I saw that when you were taking a break from social media, you wanted to play, so play. You are doing so much & deserve to take breaks. You are pumping out a lot of content. You are getting paid by some (patreon), but not by all. You don’t owe us others (non-patrons, the algorithm, trolls, etc.) anything.

    I related to your feelings on needing to accomplish more HARD. I'm 22 and about to graduate from my MA and feel like I'm a failure because I'm living at home and struggling to find a full time job, and most likely going into an area different to my degree because it's the only sector hiring. I have to remind myself constantly to slow down and take a breather to realise how much I have accomplished and that the world won't implode if I don't do everything in life by 30. I think there's a huge amount of pressure on young people to accomplish major life steps as quickly as possible and not be 'lazy' or sponging off of society. But those are just my ramblings! I love your studio vlogs they're very relaxing and insightful.

  • @ashrickettsstudio
    @ashrickettsstudio 3 года назад +4

    I'm 22 and I completely get what you mean about not allowing yourself to live! I think our generation has a lot of pressure on us because we seemingly have so many more oppurtunities and access to so many more resources than those before us did, so we should be doing something amazing with it and reaching traditional "success". But we also have to learn to define our own success in life, and find what that is in each stage of life without comparing to others. But its hard! (sorry for the long comment)

    I feel the same when you said that you feel you haven’t done much in your life and comparing other people lifestyle and successes. I’m 23 years old too and I haven’t completed college and only worked in a job for 6 months during the pandemic. I feel like I haven’t done much in my life and just been staying home doing nothing. I’m in a weird phase where I’m still learning about myself and what I should do in future to sustain myself. I thought my life was going in a good direction until the whole pandemic happened and I’m back to level one. I have to remind myself not to compare myself to other people especially artists that are close to my age that are successful in their small business. I just have to try to work hard on reaching my goals and be in happy life. I hope everything will go great in the end.

    Hearing you talk abt how you feel like your not on track was,,,, it hit home for me and,,,it was just very helpful to hear someone else also feels that way. I’ve struggled with that a lot, especially since I finished college. I missed out on a lot of stuff during high school and as a 23 year old it feels like my life experience is,,,less than all my friends and I’m still at home while I see my friends moving out with their partners and getting new jobs and all that but,,, you’re right, everyone grows at their own speed and where we are right now is fine. I just need to enjoy where I am right now and not worry about where others are in comparison. Thank you for talking about that, honestly was so nice to hear after the anxious week I’ve had over it. 💖💖💖🥰

    This was really nice: I am 23 years old, too, and am experiencing similar things. Lately I have been comparing myself so much, not just with others but also with these expectations of a "perfect adult me" that I have somehow created? Becoming an adult is really hard and I have realised it is really hard to immediately do everything right, and that I do need help. I am still in the process of seeing what I need to do, but hearing your take on life was really inspiring. I think its important to take time to think about what youre feeling and reflect on how it impacts your life? I think one's twenties are the age where you should see what your boundraries are: experiencing fun and good things, while also seeking adult stability without overworking yourself. Let's all do our best to find the healthy life habbits that work for ourselves

    I found funny when you talked about feeling like you always have to rush things and then saying that maybe people won't find that relatable, but then there was me literally crying because that's exactly what I needed to hear. I know a lot of people might say this, but you really talk about a lot of fears or problems I face, like finding increibly difficult to ask help and want to do everything by myself. And not only here, also in some other of your blogs so I really appreciate you being open about these things that might appear little sometimes. It makes me (and sure a lot of other people/artists) to feel they aren't alone :') I love love watching your blogs.

    I feel very similar, I am almost 23 and I feel like I need to be accomplished already (also having older friends and an older boyfriend..). I did not really have the typical university experience, so now that I have graduated I feel the need to really "live and feel" my twenties, not just be alive. Also, you have already accomplished so much for the age you are with a shop, patreon, youtube, which already is more accomplished than a lot of other people your age! As long as you are happy what you are doing, you are doing great

    I really appreciate your talks. I came to the same conclusion after all the stress in college where I was put into a group of highly motivated and talented designers because I was also considered good enough to be part of that "top team", I felt like I was drowning compared to how fast and efficient they were at working. The thing was that they had all had at least 5 years of experience in the field before this program! And to be considered near their level, even if it was a big gap, was a great thing as a complete newbie. I still always wanted to do better but it helped a bit to know I might just need more time before I'm there too. I forgot that a little bit as I graduated and lost connection to people in my age, I was stuck at home with my parents and hearing amazing things about my highly successful older siblings. I really want to take life and my own pace and make mistakes and memories too, but I'm afraid I worry too much that people are expecting more. I should talk to my therapist again and get back on track. I'm only 21 after all

    Yes to everything you said!! I felt just like that a while ago and it was so bad that I had to take a break from pursuing art as a career because it was to a point that it had consumed so much of my life and all I was feeling was stressed. I knew that wasn’t right. I remember journaling that I wanted to create just for the sake of creating and living life to the fullest at the same time. I took a break and focused on learning what are other things that bring me joy, and only making for the sake of making as well as exploring and living more. Once I felt like I could back to trying to pursue art as a career as well as have a good balance with life it was just amazing. Now I don’t even hesitate when it comes to deciding to take the day off instead of working. I hope you find that balance too ❤️ there’s definitely more to life than succeeding at work, don’t let society & capitalism fool ya. Do what you love 💕

    i really relate to feeling like you arent living in your twenties, i stayed at home for uni too and i now feel suffocated as im coming to the end and i feel like i dont want to miss the train of this life filling opportunities. but i guess age is a number and although i need to live for the now i will have my whole life to claim back what i once didnt experience. lets get through this together tiffany. thank you for your chats and ur videos

    I use Hubble contact that are mailed to you. You can set how often they are mailed to you, but they are the most comfortable I have tired. Worn contacts since I was 10.

    I always look forward to your videos! And again, this was a great one. I hope you can grow your business and eventually find a bigger space for all of it 🤩
    *note: make sure to set up your chair properly. If need be you can find instructions on good ol YT.. An ergonomic chair doesn’t make any difference if it’s not set up properly.

    I’m not sure if your mom would be up for the drive but in bakersfield at CSUB, the college, they’re allowing walk-ins!! They haven’t had the turnout from the city they were hoping for so they’re trying to get as many people as possible!!! Super fast and easy my brother and I were in and out in 30 mins!

    yeah those high school projects can generate some unpleasant feelings for sure, I had that issue even in uni. I rather work by myself haha.
    14:31 girl I'm 32 and it depresses me that I feel I'll never own my own place. I haven't found stability where I am and it sucks and everyday I hope it would get better. What I'm going for (my goal wasn't to sound that depressing) is that everyone has different circumstances and events in their life that will affect how you grow and that is not bad, its just what it is, we each grow and live at our own time, some will get some place first, some later, but that doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong, you are just doing you and living your life.
    I hate when people told me "you're only 20, you got time!" that sucks, is true you can't just focus on dealing with all the troubles and goals, you gotta live your life, but is nice to know you have a goal in mind and will work towards that.

    I didn’t know you had scoliosis! Did you have to wear a brace at any point in time? I wore a Boston brace growing up from 4 till 16 when I had two rods placed. I love your videos and your art. It has been very inspiring for me to start working on my own Etsy shop!
