- Join me as I begin preparing for our fourth year of participating in the #threeriverschallenge. We are taking stock of what we have in the pantry and freezers and limiting ourselves to $30 for groceries during the months of January and February.

Love three rivers homestead 🥰 I love doing a pantry challenge right before vacation, so i won’t be doing one until February. Thanks for sharing ❤
Ooh I love that idea!!
Can’t wait to see what kind of tasty meals you cook up! 😍
Thank you!!
I love your live edge table behind you in your opening. Beautiful
Thank you!!!
Wow! That’s impressive! I bet it helps cut down on grocery costs too 🤗
Definitely a perk of this challenge!
Regarding canned beef: Coming out of the jar, rinse it and then toss in a skillet and season it for tacos, nachos or burritos. Sloppy joes work too. Those are the only ways I care for it. That will help use what you’ve got.
I have transitioned to browning my ground meat and freezing it in portioned baggies or vacuum bags. Then I reheat and use just as I would fresh. The texture and flavor is much better and I still have the convenience of not having to cook up meat on a busy night.
Canned chicken is great for making a quick chicken salad with.
Thank you so much for the tips! I used to brown my ground meat and freeze it and I’m definitely going back to that method! I’m going to try your tip with the ground beef. I haven’t canned chicken yet but it’s on my list to try! We love chicken salad.
Great ideas! ❤️
I need to do this!
This is our fourth year doing it, it’s the perfect reset!!
I threw out more than 10 pounds of canned ground beef. When I opened it, it smelled like dog food and we didn’t have a dog so it went in the trash. (I did try to eat some it it was trashed too). I think I might try 1 jar of taco seasoned to see how it tastes.
You are certainly not alone! We choked down a couple meals because I didn’t want to waste it and thought maybe I could find a way it tasted good, but had no such luck. Now I don’t think any of us want to give it another go. I’m really considering giving what we have left to the chickens and letting them turn it into eggs for us. 😂😅 I’d love to know how the taco meat turns out if you ever try it!
