The movies get weirder as they go and the TV series they made is by far the weirdest the remake is alright though
Don't bother with the others...they're trash. eventually Nancy Allen and Peter Weller didn't want to even return for the sequels
Predator did you see?
You should watch Robocop 2 and new Robocop (2014), they are really good.
“Total Recall” (1990)
This movie is 100% perfect. A masterpiece.
Along with Tremors, it is 99.09% perfect. Robocop has that one really bad CGI-dummy-Dick Jones- abomination shot at the climax when he is falling out the window, and Tremors has that one really bad composite shot when Burt is shooting the Graboid in his basement.
I mean not 100% but really close to perfection. Imo 100% perfect movie would be back to the future.
It's honestly appalling that it's taken so long for reactors to get to, it's one of the best action movies ever made because it has almost zero downtime. Every moment is giving you some kind of exposition on the story. It's easily on par with Terminator and Alien, but it just has a bit more camp to it which is why it gets overlooked so much. A real shame that.
@@Tekkarath you say campy. I say satire. Over the top satire of real life
@@danzansandeev6033 I guess it depends on where you are from. My guess is that because fx Americans have more campy/commercialized tv, they are more used to over-the-top dialog, meaning they might lean towards it being satire. It is closer to their real live... I guess it is both campy and satire - still a great movie! I personally don´t see it as the best action movie ever, but I can see why some would.
Rarely a movie as been able to blend humour, extreme violence and social commentary in such a mastefull way a true classic
True
when you say "humor, extreme violence, and social commentary", robocop is the first film that comes to mind!
@@mardukmd919 Watch Death Race 2000 from the 1970's.
For that blend, simply look at other sci-fi action flicks by Paul Verhoeven: Total Recall & Starship Troopers.
I'LL BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR!
Emil with his absolutely destroyed acid-melted voicebox and droopy sausage fingers:"Heeeeeelp meeeeeeeeee".
Leon: "DON'T TOUCH ME MAAAAAAN!'
Ah, back when an 'R' rating meant something. I know it's an old movie, but it's such a damn near perfect classic that it's mindboggling to me that you haven't at least heard about it, if not outright seen it. Glad you've finally found the time to watch it.
I'm still young, but I get it. This is why I watch old movies like kill Bill vol.1 which also has gore. Because nowadays movie are now supposed to be 🤟 Family Friendly 🤟 and companies are going to far to make movies that are supposed to be aimed at kids. If a movie is GORY and FULL OF BLOOD... DON'T LET YOUR KIDS WATCH IT THEN! KEEP IN A SAFE PLACE WHERE THEY WON'T FIND IT! WHAT I'M SAYING IS MAKE MOVIES THAT APPEAL TO ADULTS KIDS AND TEENS SEPARATELY! NOT AT THE SAME TIME! CAUSE IF A MOVIE IS FULL OF GREAT ACTION AND VIOLENT SCENES...JUST GET THE GORE WHICH IS VERY MUCH NEEDED!
Edit: Marvel and DC is a great choice for parents to teens and kids to watch together.
"Bitches leave" is the best line of dialogue ever spoken in film
The "Begone Thots" of the 80's
@@lazyatthedisco Never caught on b/c people actually liked ho's back then. Hence, Pretty Woman (1990).
I'm 42. Lived, loved and breathed Robocop. Probably my favourite film of all time.
I watched to TV series of Robocop
I'll be 49 in Aug., So I was 14 when I saw this the first time. Same; I lived, loved and breathed it. I actually STILL have a nightmare of an evil, black Robocop (NOT Cane from number 2 that I loved equally) that's trying to kill me. The only place I can think to go to survive in the dream is to swim. 🤣🤣🤣
RIP Miguel Ferrer (Bob Morton), great actor, Robocop was his first important role in a major motion picture If I'm correct.
The gore genre of the 80’s had outstanding make up artists. There used to be magazines devoted to special effects and makeup artists of the time, my mother thought we were totally mental, because we found it so interesting.
Fangoria i think one of them was. They used to have projects in there and I made the animatronic hand from the magazine when i was a kid. I wanted to get into special effects as back then (unfortunately I fucked with drugs too much at university and I'm a truck driver now, but i digress...) I think another one of the mags was FX. Such a different experience getting specialist information in those pre-internet times.
@@olatron yes, those were the names. Man pre-internet days, I have a young nephew who’s a huge sports fan and in a conversation I mentioned remembering something in a SPORT’S ILLUSTRATED, and he would not accept the concept of magazines. Kids these days LOL!
exactly! which is why you never see CGI-goria...because it doesn't compare! Practical 4ever!
Speaking of Robots: please watch "Short Circuit" from 1986 ! You could be the first with a reaction video to this Classic !
Agreed!! And then Short Circuit 2 of course!
sure then batteries not included and.....Hardware
@@Detroit_Dawg yeah continue with Wall-E
Much less violence in that one.
@@3DJapan yeah, it's a wholesome movie for the most part, but a classic everyone needs to see
You keep being shocked by how real looking and brutal the death scenes are in these movies. 😁
Welcome to the 80’s. A time when people had a backbone 💪and were not so easily offended. ❄️ ❄️
😁
What I like the most about Emil is that he avoids death twice during the movie and he is so arrogant when he got out of jail or said "I go you". The irony is that he got the most brutal death. The screenplay of that movie is simply perfect.
Probably tainted by childhood nostalgia but this movie is my ultimate favorite. The score alone is fantastic. Great to see someone reacting to this underrated film 🤘
3:25 - "I did not expect this to be so graphic"

who would have imagined though that the dystopian movie version of Detroit is actually safer and less crime -ridden than real world Detroit.
ive been literally thinking that myself
all detroit mayors since robocop came out have been democrats. detroit wouldve been better off with boddicker and crew.
@@mardukmd919 You could always move away.
@@Gravyballs2011 i dont live there.
About time you followed the advice and got yourself out of there.
I was always amused by how during the first test, ED-209 hears the tiny little *click* of Kinney cocking the gun hammer. Yet, Kinney all but throws the gun on the floor moments later... (*THUMP*), and ED-209 doesn't hear it.
Nancy Allen, from "Carrie" (the first, with Sissy Spaceck)
"I don't know much except there's a cop that's a robot" yep, you got it timmy! lol
The line that comes after the ED-209 goes haywire perfectly sets the tone for this movie's dark humor: "Somebody call a goddamn paramedic?!".
Also, this movie was cut down by the MPAA, so that's why some of the footage in certain scenes (Like the ED-209 mowing down Kinney, and Murphy getting shot to pieces.) looks a bit different.
btw, ED-209 has three 20mm cannons with high-explosive rounds, you know, for dealing with unarmored targets, kinney basically got turned into human ground meat
I was 10 when my dad took me to see this opening weekend.
Don't think I closed my mouth more than 3 minutes a pop. And it still holds up for me.
I watched this when it was released I was 10 😂 at the time I think it was the most brutal I’d ever seen and the most swearing in any movie. I’ve loved it ever since and can rewatch because it’s just a great masterpiece of cinema. So many layers to it.
who else wants him to watch 'TOXIC AVENGER' if he thought this one was gory
Agreed, "Toxic Avenger" is a lot more gory in comparison to this
LOLL yes the Toxic Avenger is gory but it's WAY different than this, the bad guys in that get away with almost nothing compared to THIS.
What about C.H.U.D. ? Anybody remember that one. Lol.
@@terryv2006 yup, I totally remembered seeing that movie
Chud II wasn't anywhere as good as the first one
@@terryv2006 oh i remember it, i couldnt finish it tho at that age
Think the word your looking for about practical effects is they felt more "Visceral". No matter HOW good CG gets there is somthing about the grittiness and that tactical look of practical that will NEVER be able to be duplicated.
I remember watching Robocop at the age of 13 (1988). It's a R-rated movie, and here in Brazil...the rental stores didn't take that in count, sooooo.... I got little traumatized back then. Awesome movie and Paul Verhoeven is unique!!
“What happened to Dick?”
“He got fired”
Practtical Effects> CGI.
Any day of The week.
If you want A good Praticall Effects movie i recommend The Void and Guyver( one of The best old Bionic Hero vs Monsters movie of all time).
CGI is so overused it takes away from the Movie.
@Baho Weeb
You haven't seen enough movies. The Giant Mantis had garbage practical effects. It always comes down to the artist, not the tool. Practical effects purists never learned the right lessons.
CGI is a wonderful tool, but it has a time and place. Just like practical effects. Sometimes you might use miniatures or stop-motion or animatronics. Different tools for different shots. That being said, I miss squibs in action movies.
Jurassic Park is the perfect example of how using CGI and piratical helps a movie hold up over time. Too much CGI can look just as bad as badly done piratical. The magic happens when CG is used to help piratical.
Practical effects work better for horror movies, they do everything more creepy. CGI better work for sci-fi and fantazy.
Red Forman was a badass.
Had all the toys as a kid and ED-209 would go with me everywhere, loved that design so much and still do : D
Ahh, that amazingly strange time when they'd release 18 Certificate movies with a toy-line for kids. :D
Dead or alive you're coming with me. Classic.
I always liked the fact that many of RoboCop's fellow officers saw him as a cop and not just a machine. This is most noticable when orders to destroy him was refused by several officers who up and left the scene or did so reluctantly.
Gotta love Ronny Cox as a villain.
80s-90s action/sci-fi/horror violence, the good ol days, I'm glad I grew up during that era instead of today
The stop -motion animation for Ed-209 were done by Phil Tippett ,who worked on The Star Wars & Jurassic Park series. He also worked on Dragonslayer , an almost forgotten gem.
This movie is a classic, I still can't help but laugh at the news report of Miller being thrown out the window and him obviously landing on a pad at the same height as the upper floor window
That is one of the masterpieces of the golden era of movies! I miss those kind of films today!
This was the first ‘R’ rated movie my mom took me to in the theater. Sorry mom lol
Robocop made me the man I am today!
This movie as far as I know is the only movie other than porn that was rated x before they edited it
Back when I was a teenager in 1989, I babysat for couple of five and eight year old kids. Amazingly, their parents let them watch Robocop at that age. It was one of their favorite films, they'd watch it over and over again which made my job easier. They didn't understand the violent parts, so they thought it was funny. They especially liked to reenact the toxic waste scene and would lurch around the living room with their tongues hanging out and gasping "Help me!!!", while I'd be watching and thinking "What the hell?!". Good times, good times. :)
i miss movies like this, back when they could actually show the violence and graphic scenes, now-a-days, if this film was released, everybody would be so offended by it, they'd have to scrap the whole thing! bring back the good old days!!!
One of the greatest 80's science fiction films. Right up there with Back to the Future, Terminator, and Aliens.
the only organic parts left on Robocop are his brain, face and a bit of his digestive track (to sustain his brain), so when he faced Boddicker in the factory at the end he was just faking pain when Clarence impaled him in order to lure him in and get a spiked jab to his jugular.
One of my favorite films of all time after the original SW Trilogy
'Can you Flyyyy Bobi?' Watched this in the 80's and me n my brother still use that line as reference to this mad and insanely fabulous film! Oh and can we take a moment to recognise the amazing soundtrack by Basil Poledouris of Conan fame and lots more!
Yeah, there's a reason this movie originally got an X rating, they had to trim out a lot to get it to R so they could get a widespread release.
Because of the social commentary and it's a really good film, this ranks in my top 5 movies of all time.
I thought I was the only one who remembered that story about it originally being rated X because of the violence. That went around my school like wildfire and we all just HAD to see it!
I Find 80s films to be the most creative of practicle effects, due to new and cheapper plastics developed at the time. I think it was dubbed Plastic-Realities!
I worked in practical makeup effects at that time, and I've never heard the term "Plastic Realities".
@@kevinpogue7294 I'm 90% sure I heared it from a couple of talking heads discuss it in the 2000s, in some FILM4 backed Doc that explored the Techniques used from 50s version of The Thing/The Blob to their 80s counterparts and the evalution of it's FX; Rob Botine was one, Tom Savini and a couple of others from the Elm Street movies and movie critic Mark Kermode were attributed to coining the phase. Can't remember what this wasattached to, maybe it was aspecial, but I have heard Kermode especially say the term again during his BBC review of the Nightmare on Elmstreet remake!
@@Caredroia Well, I've known Tom Savini for more than 30 years, and I've never heard him, or anyone else use that term.
@@kevinpogue7294 Thank you for letting me know this Kevin, it just happened to be interview segments, put together for a behind-the-scenes feature on telly. As I said, they happened to be in it, and I know it was said in the programe.. might just have been what the media personalities coined, as they always seem to do. The creators are too busy to get things to work well, and on time, while others just worry about how to label or spin names and things. Again, thank your input and keeping everything true to the facts.
Don't you mean latex Rubber?
I watched this age 7 and learned the only laws that matter, Protect the Innocent, Serve the Public trust, uphold the law,
It actually ends perfectly... Murphy finds a part of his humanity and maybe even a little bit of his soul. His struggle between man and machine comes to a very satisfying conclusion. This is where the story should have finished, the sequels are not good. My opinion of course. Nothing is as brilliant as the original, so well directed by Paul Verhoeven. I will say though that Peter Weller is just as terrific in the second one. Such a great underrated actor.
I think this movie handles scale as well. Robocop is on a person journey and is in no way capable to taking on the corporate dystopia the film presents. It makes OCP feel that much bigger and imposing when the hero with superpowers is really helpless against them.
There's gonna be a direct sequel to the first call Robocop Returns, and Wellers is returning.
I think Robocop 2 was a decent sequel, but as is usually the case the original is far superior.
Starship troopers is mandatory after this one
Someone should've warned you: If you're gonna watch a Paul Verhoeven movie, you're gonna get a lot of VERY graphic, grotesque violence. lol
People thinknthe ed209s problem was the malfunction. No. The engineers put live ammo in. That was the problem!
Kind of weird when you consider that in the RoboCop universe, everyone must be using a 6-inch razor-sharp spike as a USB drive.
Before "You go girl" there was the more effective "BITCHES LEAVE!" XD
Tim’s face when he said it’s only a glitch 😂😂
21:00 classic 80s movie hook, the "toxic waste" instantly mutating the guy lmao
I think it wasnt a mutation but severe burns that peeled his skin off
@@JuntosXlaLibertadMileyBuIIrich I dunno man lol, when the car hit him he was all hunchbacked and he had the toxic avenger style facial mutations already, unless the acid was causing his features to slide off in large chunks which would actually be kind of horrific I guess
@@superbooster2636 Gotta love Hollywood Acid.
@@lmcgregoruk it seems like the practical fx guys maybe dropped a few tabs of said hollywood acid before getting to work
And labeled as generic "toxic waste". Who needs specifics?
19:32 If I remember right they didn't manage to save ANY of his face, that's something like a silicone mask over a mechanical frame
Love this movie, so visceral, brutal yet clever !
Haha...I love the fact that the toxic waste tank is labelled "TOXIC WASTE" :-)
people ask why Murphy gave his position away....it's because he's a cop and shooting a man while back turned constitutes murder. In every instance Robocop did not fire first or constitute a justifiable shooting.
- Convenience store robber: Didn't fire, incapacitated him while he fled
- Two rapists: 2nd surrendered, 1st shot in groin.
- Hostage taker: Didn't intervene til he threatened the mayor directly.
- Emil: Shot his bike, crashed, survived
- Leon: Taken into custody, interrogated
- Factory: killed 17 people, ALL justifiable as they shot first
- Joe: Shot by murphy
- Clarence: Threatened to kill him, killed in defense
- Dick Jones: killed after threateneing with deadly weapon
Yes. 80s Movies were incredibly brutal. And they made cartoons of all these Hard R films for children...
i remember watching this at the drive in a "shock and awe double feature" with "Empire of the Sun", WHICH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND WATCHING!!!! (It has a young christian bale in it). I threw up my hot dog when murphy gets shot up and my nachos at the toxic guy getting creamed when I was watching this as a kid and i had nightmares because I wanted to be a cop. Of course this was the SHOCK movie, the AWE was the little known Empire of the Sun which was AMAZING@!!!!
According to the writers and fx designers.. Robo's face isnt a real face. It's an artificial rubber death mask made from a mould of Murphys face after death and put over a metal skull. Which is why you can see a plugged bullet hole. The skull behind it is metal.. the face was made to both "honor Murphy" (line from Robocop 2), and to keep him from going insane I'd he ever got any memory back. (Also seen in Robocop 2). Supposedlu the only organic things left is what was left of his brain and part of his digestive system.
I wish they still made movies this violent.
Other sci-fi action movies in a similar vein to Robocop:
The Running Man
Total Recall (1990)
Starship Troopers
Was traumatized by this movie as a child - STILL my favorite movie as an adult ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Like Boomstick from Death Battle said when Murphy got shot and killed in this film, *That guy can eat more bullets than 50 Cent.*
One of the finest, and most brutal, films ever made
I saw Robocop at a drive-in movie theater when it first came out. It was a double bill with Spaceballs. Robocop was probably the first R rated movie I ever saw, definitely the first one I saw in theaters. I was 8.
Haha, what a double feature
I needed something to watch while eating dinner alone. Thank you I was immersed with your viewing of robocop
Thanks! Glad you liked the video
Disfruté muchísimo este video!!!!... saludos Tim!!!😁
A great film, way ahead of its time, with really amazing effects, great review!
“I want a recount, and no matter what I want my old job back!” Sound familiar?😂
Which election? Gotta be more specific.
Yup, sounds very familiar!
Sounds familiar.... Just can't seem to remember from when or where.😁
Boy, that ED-209 droid would have been a fearsome law enforcement unit...if the suspects never used stairs.
You saw the directors cut which added about 2 minutes of hardcore violence that didn't make the theatrical cut. The director had to add those cheesy commercials and re-edit the movie 17 times to get an R rating. This is my all time favorite action movie. Close second is Die Hard.
Always fun to see someone watch Robocop for the 1st time. The death Emile is definitely a highlight
Sadly the other movies are not as good (Robocop 2 is passable), but then again Robocop is almost flawless
I was never allowed to watch this back in the day. My brother allowed me to watch Running Man and Predator and I thought how violent can Robocop be compared to them? I watched it for the first time last week. Yeah... now I can see why my brother never let me watch it. It was brutal, but I loved it.
I was like seven-ish years old when I saw this film for the first time. And I think it is still one of the best films ever made in this genre, mostly because of the story it tells. Keep in mind you guys, that ORION PICTURES are also the ones responsible for Terminator a few years earlier, so there was a general theme going on. In the Original Robocop trailer, the music used was the Terminator theme.
Supposedly, we'll be seeing a direct sequel to the original Robocop film sometime within the next 2-3 years, provided that all this covid doesn't prolong it further.
“This is more graphic than I was expecting” hmm must be your first Paul Verhoeven film
You see how far ahead if its time was that movie. Incredible scenario and direction.
3:02 I find it interesting that the operators of ED 209 had a massive control board but no button for instant shutdown. That gotta be the most useless keyboard in history.
I enjoyed watching the movies and the show back when I was a kid.
The Original Robocop (1987). A time when Action Movies where made for Adults.
Not only was there 2 sequels and a rebooted version of Robocop, there's also a Robocop TV series and a Robocop animated series
and all crappy...
That's brutal....before the more brutal scene most people think of....
I remember the first time I saw this movie I was about nine or ten years old, it was a good childhood ...
This movie is Perfect!! Robocop movies are hidden gems!! One of my favoritt action movies!! You should do a movie reaction to Robocop 2!! Such a great movie too!!👍👍👍
Robocop is my favourite movie of all time.
RoboCop 2 is worth watching. It is written by Frank Miller (Sin City, and many other comics) and directed by Irvin Kershner (Empire Strikes Back). But for more of this director (Paul Verhoeven) / tone - check out Total Recall, Starship Troopers, and Basic Instinct (skip Showgirls).
This movie costarred 3 Star Trek alumni:
Ronnie Cox as Dick Jones
Miguel Ferrer as Bob Morton
And
Kurtwood Smith as Clarence Boddicker
Ronnie Cox appeared in Star Trek: TNG as Captain Edward Jelico
Miguel Ferrer appeared as a bridge officer on the USS Excelsiorin "Star Trek III:The Search For Spock
And Kurtwood Smith appeared as The President Of The Federation Council in "Star Trek VI:The Undiscovered Country"
The Dick Jones falling spider puppet is one of my favorite things. Best. Leo.
The crazy thing about this movie is that it’s a subversive take on Jesus Christ. The way he’s shot is reminiscent of crucifixion, he’s returned to life to save people, he’s mocked by his killers, at the end he walks on water, and his side is pierced by a spear.
There's so many levels to this film. Paul Verhoeven was horrified by the violence of American media, and tried to satirize it in the film, hence some of the over-the-top gore. One interesting note is how the filmmakers manage to get entirely different reactions to nearly-identical violent scenes close together in the movie; shock and laughter when ED-209 first blows-away the executive, followed by pure horror when Boddicker and his gang do something very similar to Murphy in the warehouse.
The the late 70s to the mid/late 80s were the height of cocaine use in the US, so a lot of the entertainment at the time was WAAAY over the top and indulgent. This was especially true in music and movies. That's a lot of the reason action movies of the time were so brutally violent.
I'm glad you enjoyed this movie. I love it. Such a great classic. Now, a heads up with the sequels:
- RoboCop 2 is equally as dark and violent as the first. Story is not as strong, but it is filled with action. I personally love it. Some don't.
- RoboCop 3 goes completely family friendly. Lot less violence. No swearing. New RoboCop actor. I'm not a fan of the third. The only reason to watch the third movie is for Lewis (yes she survived 👍).
Really interested to see what you think.
your comment about some of his insides were still there. Would have to have a basic support for his brain , for digesting the baby food, and breathing. Maybe only one lung, a partial digestive system. Crazy violent movie with some quirky fun tossed in.
There was also a TV miniseries of 4 feature length episodes (The Prime Directives), apart from a couple of cheesy moments they were actually pretty good, early noughties.
There was a TV series before that which is not horrible but is less violent.
When your generation complains about bad CGI, i have to laugh.
Robocop is one of my favorite childhood movies.
I believe every SciFi and fantasy movie fan has to watch Masters of the Universe 1987. It's so bad, but I love it. Also, Maximum Overdrive, 1986, also bad.
I think you should look into Westerns, too. The Unforgiven, Tombstone, and Young Guns are all great.
2 is actually a pretty great film.
3 is irredeemable.
2014 is... Fine. It's OK when observed in isolation, other than that - it simply doesn't need to exist.
This film was part of my childhood, I loved it. That day was worth it because of your Reaction.
