  • As we fly over the last books of the Old Testament, we first look at the expanded message of rebuilding the temple when Zechariah encouraged Israel to anticipate their ultimate deliverance and the Messiah's future reign. One hundred years after the temple was rebuilt, the book of Malachi revealed that God's chosen people had once again slid back into their sinful practices. Malachi declared God's promise of a coming messenger, John the Baptist, and a coming Messiah.
This teaching is from our series The Bible from 30,000 Feet - 2018 with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Church.

God bless his servant Skip and the entire Calvary congregation.

I have been doing a book by book study in our weekly online (zoom) Family Bible Study and we are about to study Zechariah and for reference , I'm using the Bible Project of Pastor Tim Mackie, Unlocking the Bible by the late Dave Pawson, Bible background of Pastor John Mcarthur and complemented by Pastor Skip with his 30K overview - gives me a complete understanding of the Bible. Thank you, Lord for giving us these inspired Pastors and Teachers of yours😍

I cracked up laughing when you said, "There's gridlock in the Holy City." I don't know why that struck me as being funny but I appreciate the fact that you are communicating these truths in a relaxed way without being didactic. You communicated beautifully, brother. May the Lord bless your ministry as you grow in His grace. I really enjoyed this! I appreciate the 30k feet overview approach as opposed to a more verse by verse expository approach
We are suffering a famine in the world when it comes to biblical understanding and literacy. This is the kind of ministry that the Body needs in this hour. Thanks for your service.

The prophecy of Zechariah 4:10-14 matches exactly the prophecy of Revelation chapter 11. In these verses we see many strong similarities. We see people being measured by Zerubbabel in Zechariah 4:10, as occurs by John in Revelation 11:1. In both prophecies we see candlesticks. We also see two olive trees as well as two anointed ones in each of these prophecies, just as we see two olive trees in Revelation 11:4 and two witnesses in Revelation chapter 11. In both prophecies the events occur in the presence of the Elohim of the earth (Zech. 4:14 and Rev. 11:4). There is much more going on here in these prophecies than the expansion of Jerusalem. There is a definite prophetic connection and pattern that ties to the Two Witnesses prophecy of Revelation.

Thank you for the sound expositions of the OT books, I have always enjoyed and received insight from it as I teach. I have a comment and disagree with your explanation as to why believers should not engage the devil in spiritual warfare (A reference to what transpired in Zachariah 3:2). First, Christ gave us the power and authority to rebuke the devil and all powers of the enemy which the likes of Joshua the high priest never heard nor even angels. Remember we are joint heirs with Christ, the angels not, so in the power and positional hierarchy of the kingdom of God, we are higher than the angels. Secondly, resisting the devil includes and implies conflict with him while we put on the full armor of God. Thirdly, the Holy spirit is indwelling in a NT believers unlike the OT priests or even angels. so there is no question or doubt in mind that this is the will of God. besides, I am talking from experiential knowledge and as a participant observer in spiritual warfare and the casting out of demons for well over 25 years in ministry. I hope you will reflect on this perspective and perhaps review your stand on this issue because positions like yours weakens the ability of believers to use their God given rights and privilege to take more grounds for the lord that the devil is daily taken from us.

Maybe the word" resurrected" is not precise, but we get the point - the real Elijah of old - would come before Jesus' second coming.

I’ve been taught by churches/certain pastors to war against the devil and call out his deeds of darkness expose them and cast devils out of people and to engage the devil w the Spirit and power of Christ living now INSIDE of us (unlike angels or any OT prophets) can you elaborate on why this is poor form in your opinion?

The book of Malachi showed the end of God's conditional relationship with Israel from Genesis to Zechariah - if they repented of His indictment of the Priesthood, the Princes, the Prophets and the People, they would see the renewal of His promised covenant Jeremiah 31:31-34, if they continued to rebel, the book will be closed, Daniel 12:4, and the Messiah would come (bringing the good news of the Kingdom, Matthew 10:5, to them, and they would be the ones to preach it to the rest of the world).
But they still continued in their rebellion, and killed the Messiah, so, God's promises to include all the families of the world in the adoption of sons, Genesis 12:3; Acts 3:25; Matthew 28:18-20, would be proclaimed through the gospel of salvation by grace through faith, in the sacrificial death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 23, like the book of Malachi, was the bridge between the fulfillment of all God's promises to the Jews, and also the end of His particular collaboration with them as His peculiar people Romans 9:25-26; Hosea 2:23. After thus chapter, the Glory finally departed from the midst of them, for the last time - 1 Samuel 4:21; Ezekiel chapters 8-11; Hosea 20:5; 24:1. (The reason that the temple could be besieged and burned down, else, the Holiness of the presence of God would instantly incinerate any and all who would dare step in, let alone loot and destroy it by fire or any means).
Result: the Priesthood was changed Hebrews 7:12; chapters 7-10, and the rest were scattered throughout the world. Deuteronomy 4:27; 28:64; 32:26; 1 Kings 14:15; Nehemiah 1:8; Psalm 106:27; Jeremiah 9:16; 13:24; 18;17; Ezekiel 36:19-24; Leviticus 26:33. Etc.
This ushered in the grace dispensation Isaiah 61:2a; Luke 4:17-21. The book has been shut to usher in the next phase- the day of vengeance of our God, Isaiah 61:2b; 63:4. This is the window into the tribulation dispensation.
Now, we have the Holy Spirit deterring it's manifestation, because of the love that God has for the whole world.
Like Israel, they still continue in their rebellion, so the dispensation of the full undiluted wrath of God will suddenly burst out, as soon as the Light of the world, and the Salt of the earth are taken out in rapture, as promise. Isaiah 51:22; Jeremiah 25:15; Obadiah 16; Revelation 14:10. So believers are urged to watch and pray Luke 21-31-36!
It will come unexpectedly, and as expected!
That is why the day of the Lord is darkness and not light! Amos 5:18-20; Joel 2:2,14; Exodus 12:21; Matthew 27:45.
Thus, both the books of Malachi- for the Jews, and Matthew for both Jews and Gentiles, are God's last attempts to plead with His people, and the whole world, so that no one can have any excuses in that day, and God will be Just and Righteous when He metes out judgment and Justice.
Malachi is not for the churches to collect tithes and offerings, which heaping curses on the people that do not know any better. Romans 9:4-5.
    2 Timothy 2:15

Pastor I see no need for you to keep apologizing and every video about how you are going over and ending later than what you intended to. If the holy spirit is preaching through you there is no need for that.

Why do so called pastors never read
    Malachi 1:3
[3]And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness....who is Esau, the red man (Gen 25:25), that lives by the sword (military might - Gen 27:40), who would go into space exploration and their symbol would be the eagle (book of Obadiah)?
