      To be honest here, I get the pain that the sister and her husband feel about their infertility. Fertility treatments take a huge physical, mental, and emotional toll on women (and on the couple), but that does not excuse their shitty behaviour. It seems that they are in a lot of pain, but the pain they feel is being weaponized against the wrong people. They need to be in a good mental place for children, not just physically, financially, emotionally... it's clear that both the sister and brother in law need extensive therapy before they can adopt. However, kudos on OP and her husband for taking in a young child and giving him all the love and support he needs. It is so tragic that his parents (and OP's really good friends) died.

    The story about the couple that adopted their godson reminded me of another story covered by rslash a couple of months ago where a woman adopted her sisters daughter and raised her as her own despite wanting to be child free. Like gave up her lifestyle, missed out on dream job opportunities and if I remember correctly lost her boyfriend all to be a mother to her niece (the mother wasn’t ready or capable of taking care of a child while her sister was) well fast forward I think 10 years later and the mother announced she was pregnant with baby number 2, and once again not capable of taking care of a child she expected her sister to adopt baby number 2 and blew a gasket when her sister refused. I know not the same situation but it just reminded me of that story because you have one sibling that planned on being child free with her husband and then tragedy strikes leaving an innocent child without a family so they adopt this child and the sister throws a tantrum because she can’t get what she wants and the sister can. Like they completely ignored that the sister and husband sacrificed the life they wanted to adopt their godson all while grieving over the friends they lost. OP if you’re reading this paragraph cut contact with your sister and brother in law, cut out the friends and family that are siding with them and live your best life with your new son.

    The second story, the channel you were talking about was DaddyOFive, and yeah, they were totally abusive, especially towards one of the kids in particular, Cody, which on camera, they yelled at him, smashed his stuff, pushed him, berated him, and all sorts of disgusting stuff. It didn’t help that he had anger issues that they exploited, and enabled the oldest child and let him harass Cody and the father would only say “you jerk” to Jacob while he screamed and Cody and took away his stuff (or destroyed it in some cases), and the mother passed off Cody’s justified frustration as him being “salty”.
    I was yelled at when I was younger, and I can confirm that it helps nothing, it only makes your children fear you, and while in short term, that homework assignment might be done, in long term, it will lead to anxiety, depression, resentment, and trauma.
    I remember watching that back in the day, and it was truly disgusting. Thankfully, all five children were taken away, and the channel was terminated, and please don’t blame Jacob, he was raised as the golden child under shitty parents, and is currently making a lot of improvement.

      @ahe79 2 года назад +7

      Yes, that is what I assumed as well. Not simply that they drove over to complain how unfair it was. Because they were hoping to get this child. Which is so terribly low.
      It would be one thing if the OP and spouse felt ill-equipped to raise a child and expressed to their family that they felt it was more than they could handle. Then a polite offering to adopt the child wouldn’t be inappropriate. But not without stressing that they will support them if they decide to raise him. And stress that they will give them time to process this before a decision is made, as they should have the opportunity to choose what is best when it isn’t so fresh. But the OP couple wasn’t backing away. And the infertile couple wouldn’t have been so tactful if they had.
      I understand this couple has experienced great heartache. And for that, I do have great sympathy. But to use that to condemn others for this just happening to them is wrong. No couple or person in this scenario chose what has happened to them. That’s really not much different than if a couple has a baby who dies. Then their younger sibling becomes pregnant, even though they never wanted to be a parent, and coming to make them feel bad for a misfortune they have no control over. Wait, I think there actually was an r/slash about that.
      In essence, your own grief is not a reason to shame others who have a different form of grief but also received something you have desperately wanted. Some people live full, healthy lives and want for nothing. Some people are sickly from birth and poor, not surviving past childhood. Life is freaking unfair all the time. Do these people think they are atop some sort of pain hierarchy because they’ve been going through it longer and spent so much time, energy, heart and money? Their pain has taught them nothing positive then. They’ve shown no empathy for seeing others struggle. They only see what is to them an undeserved windfall. They have let their own trauma embitter them. They can’t see how wrong it is to do such a thing to anyone who has lost people close to them, especially your own family going through it!
      OP couple is smart to turn off their phones and avoid the drama. They need to heal and help this little boy heal, who lost more than everyone else, as the truest victim in this story. They should not have to deal with the opinions of everyone else. Those who aren’t grieving the loss of that couple, who aren’t committing to raising a child, sacrificing their original plans for life to honor their friends, as the godparents. Their opinions frankly don’t matter here. I have very little knowledge about being a godparent, but I am aware that title is not chosen lightly.

Both of these children underwent a psychological evaluation, and as a result were described as having suffered "mental injuries" due to their treatment. The couple itself, according to an article, eventually came around and seem regretful and understanding about what they have done.

In every job I've ever had, I have been hit on repeatedly by numerous men until word gets around that I'm not receptive to it. Then again when someone new starts. I'm very straightforward and matter of fact. I don't flirt, hint, or leave question to whether or not I'm interested. I'm not. It's very clear. I'm polite, but firm. It does get extremely annoying that for some reason men of all ages and backgrounds see a somewhat attractive woman and think she definitely has to be interested in them. It's made even worse if you're polite to them, or heaven forbid, make eye contact...🤦‍♀️

After pandemic homeschooling last year, now they are in public schools for the first time. My oldest is 7th grade and youngest is 4th. Imagine the only thing you can fathom to think about when your sibling and their partner get custody of an orphaned child born to their best friends was "Wah, you got a baby without having to do, suffer, or lose anything!"
    Bullshit, they lost their best friends, they're going to raise that baby because they felt it was their duty as godparents to the baby. They didn't have to go through fertility treatments or strenuous processes to get that child, but they lost their friends, the birth parents to their godchild, and are taking responsibility for a baby that would ideally never have been orphaned in the first place.
    They're grieving for their lost friends, rearranging their lives to do right by their friends' child, and all this entitled slag and her husband can think of is "Why do you get a baby when we're the ones who wanted one for so long?" Uh, lady, our best friends died in a horrific accident and their baby needs us. We lost two of our best friends and we're honoring our role as godparents. People died, we're grieving, and all you can think about is how you "deserve" to have a baby and we don't?
    With a sister like that, you won't need an enemy.
