Since I first played the game in 2018 I have used the hammer almost exclusively. To me - as a solo player - its raw damage, stuns and KOs are incredibly useful. Once you figure out the complexities and how to manage them, it becomes an extraordinary weapon (with the exclusion of farming for tails)...
Your cat can cut it, the damage from hammer counts, it just has to get one „cutting“ hit at the end to get the tail :) you can use boomerang or throwing knife too.
Hammer was the first weapon that made me feel powerful. Knocking monsters over and bullying them is so fun! Thanks for the quick guide, I may have to pick it up again! My current new love is the lance, looking forward to your video on it!

The hammer is super simple but it takes finesse and hard work to make yourself formidable with it. You always have to remember the limitations of the hammer too. Short range, can’t block, little to no invincible frames and it’s not gracefully either. You make up for it in timing. Learning the patterns in a fight and knowing when or when not to commit to attacks. I’m also sure you have equipment to cover for anything you lack. Ultimately, you used the weapon so much and with great efficiency that you became a master in your own right.

funny story time about hammer and me: So I who have probably played Longsword the most, followed by charge blade and insect glaive, and then maybe hammer, Was having trouble beating coral pukei pukei for the first time with LS. Switched to hammer, got the job done without fainting first try. Next, was having trouble beating Barioth for the first time with LS. Failed mission like 3 or 4 times. Switched to hammer, got the job done with no carts. Maybe I am just a lost soul from the bonk brotherhood who has found his way back XD

Hammer does this fun thing where you can just have a straight minute where the monster doesn’t attack you from stuns, exhausts, mounts, wallbang, and your choice of paralysis or sleep. I love swinging my Ban Hammer at enemies with zero regard for personal safety and giving the fans free wounds to take advantage of.
I remember playing longsword in whatever generation it was first introduced back then, but I always thought the hammer videos of that game looked more satisfying. Now when I started mhw I decided to pick the hammer as my main and after 260 hours and Fatalis and Alatreon beaten with it I feel like I’m at 70% mastery for the weapon. It’s surprisingly deep and the more you learn the more fun you have with it. Suddenly it feels like hammer has a good match up against all monsters because its surprisingly mobile and always has ways to hit the head Edit: also if you wanna have any kind of ability secret just farm fatty, even if you’re not able to kill it yet. You can get 4 piece armor with only 1 eye. Tho I don’t know if I would go for Sluggers secret since the KO resistance goes up after every KO and at the point that you get that extra 1 KO from the ability most monsters are probably already limping. I run Agitator Secret, WEX,CE,CB, Partbreaker, Divine Blessing and Evade Extender for comfort. For the extra slots I have free I put Airborne for the juicy ledge hop spam, and depending on the fight latent power or affinity sliding since they activate quite easily.
I’m like, 2 weeks new and already have most [4/5] of Zorah’s set, and I switch between longsword and hammer, utilizing sleep, blast, and paralyze setups along the way. Hammers hella fun, thanks for some of the tips I was missing out on like the clutch claw and wall flippies!
I'm a new hunter but have already finished solo-ing the regular game and moved into Iceborne. Currently maining hammer and still have a long way to go, but it singlehandedly carried me through the game (and deviljho)
Love the hammer! I use full safi set and safi sleep hammer with max attack up. Its a crit raw build and it's too much fun. I find slugger does sweet FA though....
After trying out most of the weapons in MHW. The hammer is my best and most favourite of them all. It suits my PlayStyle and packs a punch! Mastering it needs time and once you do you'll be a beast!! Right now rocking the full fatalis amour and weapon set😊
When i started playing 1-2 weeks ago i was deciding between hammer and GS... I chose GS and have no regrets, i do enjoy that playstyle and big hits, but once I finish the story ( currently very early master rank ) and once I master it, craft all weapons and armor sets i want/need or basically if i ever get bored of GS, hammer is gonna be my next pick
@@LightItUpDan I am at start of the iceborn and it takes a lot of time to farm materials even for that GS and pieces of armor that GS is efficient with If I decided to play with a different or even try multiple other weapons, I would be much weaker than I'm atm and would have to farm even more for armor pieces with skills those other weapons are good with and in that case I wouldn't progress much in the story.. I get your point and definitely want to try other weapons but I'll rather finish the story with 1 weapon and got really good with it and only then move to another one, since I'll have much more materials at that time etc.. and most importantly as long as I have fun, I don't mind sticking with it. Maybe it's just me but whatever I play a try to do my best to master it ( watch so many RUclips videos, gather info, tips&tricks etc ) and your videos are very useful for that 💪👍

I started playing using the glaive but never really like it or the game for that matter. Picked the hammer up and have loved it and the game since. I ran the diablos build for alot of my time but now running a handicraft crit build with the grinding mallet. Recently got my Safi hammer so in the process of creating a build for it.
The Hammer is my #1 main in Monster Hunter World. Has been since I first started. Despite it being such a big weapon, it has great mobility and what I consider a good "flow" with its combos.
Îm a bit late, but one of my favourite hammer is the grand girros. The paralysis effect is awesome. One of my friends gave me shit because hammer is not great at dealing affliction but in my experience, I get to paralyze a monster at least 4 times in the hunt. The raw damage is not great though, but pat with destroyer and slugger decos or armor, it makes the hunt really easy. It’s not meta or anything, but it works great for pretty much any monster until tempest brachydios.
What I like about Greatsword and Hammer in MH:W is that weirdly, both being one of the heaviest weapon types in the game they still both allow you to "fly" for a short time because you decide to charge it mid air.
Also a Hammer bro but I play with all the weapons a bunch, charge blade is def the most underrated weapon, very high damage for something more simple than people make it out to be. Chainsaw mode goes brrrrrr
How is it underrated? If anything is the most talked about after Longsword, people won't stop talking about it and it is in the top 5 most used weapon in game lol
In MR I don't run Slugger on my Hammer personally. I like Critical Eye, Weakness Exploit, Critical Boost, and Partbreaker. I also see myself getting 2-3 stuns without Slugger per hunt.

Am very curious as to how you progressed or what you think is the best progression. I believe the highest Rarity for Defender weapons is 7. Not sure the best path from Rarity 8 and up. Defender all the way through base game if you’re just looking to get through it, followed by Guild Palace shortly into Iceborne once you’re able to run the event - check the simple weapon progression for IB video
I love them both! Hammer is really versatile, there aren’t really any essentials per se! Part breaker can be amazing with it, folks enjoy slugger as well, constitution can be mad useful with all the rolling, it all comes down to personal flavour honestly!
@lightitupdan I feel like they are polar opposite weapons. I'm clutching like crazy now because its so much easier with hammer. Clutching with the lance is an art all to itself which I have yet to master.

Defenders feels great for blast at the beginning but dies off at iceborne. Ive build the Raging braquy ytying to relive those times but if doesn't proc nearby as much

it’s a dope looking hammer, but sadly pretty low raw for a lot of effort. I’d look at Guild Palace, Furious Rajang, and Raging Brachy as a solid upgrade path!

Im completely new and was wondering, how exactly do i see when i have charged power? Any buff icon or something shows up? How long does the effect last?
The buff only goes away when you take any sort of stagger or sheath your weapon, I don’t recommend relying on it too much if you find yourself constantly having to recharge, just make sure you learn the fights first and foremost then go for the big stuff
HELP!!! I just started playing the game and so far I love it. I am a hammer bro lol, but I am needing some guidance and help. I play on PC and have no idea how to set my key binds so that I can use all of my skills and such efficiently. Could someone please help?
Shhhhh... keep the hammer secret. Status or raw work great. I'm partial to blast. Slugger isn't as good as part breaker. On higher level builds, I can't always fit a brace decoration, and I hate it when I'm posted up, mid combo, and someone hits me from behind. IF YOU ARE OUT OF POSITION AND HITTING ANYONE IN THE BACK, YOU ARE AT FAULT! If I hit you, 90% of the time, I can't/didn’t see you. The other 10% I'm over it and gonna send you outta the way.
Hammer guys just need to control the head for 99% of the hunt. If anyone tries to overcrowd it I usually launch them out of the way. Only other players that have a fair arguement to be there are the GS users. Its always the long sword users that just get in everyones way.

I usually stack slugger and stamina theif. When they’re worn out I have enough time to get a combo off.

I've tried using 4 other weapon types and I always fall back to the hammer. It just feels right to me.

Charge blade is SO good!! I love the savage axe mode, much less commitment than SAED!!

I swap between Hammer and Hunting Horn. Sometimes I want to attack, sometimes I want to be support.
Both are attack though when used properly!

What is the first weapon in the video? New player here
Yo! I’ve been playing for about a month or so now and have taken an interest in crafting the Vaal Hazak hammer, the Rarity 11 one, and I wanted to ask if you had any suggestions for a better hammer or perhaps armor to go with it. Currently, I’m thinking about crafting a full set of Nero Diablos armor, but I am willing to farm for other pieces.
Please let me know.
it’s a dope looking hammer, but sadly pretty low raw for a lot of effort. I’d look at Guild Palace, Furious Rajang, and Raging Brachy as a solid upgrade path!

Im completely new and was wondering, how exactly do i see when i have charged power? Any buff icon or something shows up? How long does the effect last?
You’ll have that red/white glow when you’re charged, it’s a simple press of a button so you can always hit it again if you’re unsure
The buff only goes away when you take any sort of stagger or sheath your weapon, I don’t recommend relying on it too much if you find yourself constantly having to recharge, just make sure you learn the fights first and foremost then go for the big stuff
This is the most underrated weapon on MH
I like to use the flight jewel decoration

Is slugger good ? Someone said it wasnt and i thought maybe it would make the hammer better for me.

Shhhhh... keep the hammer secret. Status or raw work great. I'm partial to blast. Slugger isn't as good as part breaker.
On higher level builds, I can't always fit a brace decoration, and I hate it when I'm posted up, mid combo, and someone hits me from behind. IF YOU ARE OUT OF POSITION AND HITTING ANYONE IN THE BACK, YOU ARE AT FAULT! If I hit you, 90% of the time, I can't/didn’t see you. The other 10% I'm over it and gonna send you outta the way.

Hammer guys just need to control the head for 99% of the hunt. If anyone tries to overcrowd it I usually launch them out of the way. Only other players that have a fair arguement to be there are the GS users.
Its always the long sword users that just get in everyones way.
