So many great things to learn and appreciate here, thank you both. Dan - kudos to you for allowing your guests to really talk and share their experiences! A lot of interviwers are good at asking, but not listening. You are a good listener and it lets your guests share more! Joey is a complete pro, and has demonstrated this in his skating and in his life. Always learning! So cool. I watched the entire interview, and it is clear that Joey did not maximize his potential on the ice, due to injury, as he said, and likely other factors related to the budeget and culture of speedskating in the USA. Yet he is a GREAT athlete, and was complete beauty on the ice he nailed it. No doubt he will be an outstanding coach and advocate for individual success. Good luck Joey, you will bring a ton to the coaching table!
Another fun episode to listen to. I told Joey this morning at the rink that he's losing his memory with old age, haha! Because he didn't qualify for the 500m on the 2014 Olympic Team. The 500 skaters were Mitch Whitmore, Tucker Fredricks, Shani Davis & Brian Hansen. Jonathan Garcia actually would have earned a spot had he not gotten DQ'd for not wearing his transponders, but he made the 1000m team a couple of days later. And the UOO has a FAST team before the 2002 Games. The late Jan van de Roemer was the coach.
Inspiring is the word !! Joey mantia !!! This name is surely known to every Indian skater !! I was lucky enough to stand on the line with him at a world championship !! Absolute legend of skating
In the 2021 mass start to be skating for over 7.5 minutes and turn on the jets at the end and still be skating that well is unbelievable. For Joey to say he didn’t think he was a good ice skater then I am not good at walking 😂
hey man I see that you are wearing dash clothing, does that mean that you skate in milwaukee? Do you see Jordan training over there? Is he really putting 4 hours on ice everyday?
Ya, I train out of Milwaukee and share the ice w Jordan when he’s in town. Not sure where the “four hours a day” thing is coming from. Jordan trains the same as everyone else. There are no ice sessions longer than three hours here and I rarely see him out there longer than maybe 90 minutes. World championships are won in the summer 👊👊👊
Thank you for your’e work on the speedskating community!
Only 10 minutes in and loving this already. Thanks Dan and Joey!
Great interview! Loved learning more about Joey's background and story.

Thank you for the kind words Jeff. It’s always such a true pleasure to spend time with all these great athletes and coaches.
