It's just so DAMN refreshing to see a player (who is clearly knowledgeable about gear and tone) excited about a rig that the big name guitar gods (and every two-bit advertising-heavy guitar rag) would sniff at. And it sounds great! No doubt that's partially down to your talent, Dave, but it provides a great lesson to younger players about knowing your gear back-to-front (whatever that gear may be) and developing solid technique in order to get the very best out of it. Another great video. :)
Dave Simpson Hi Dave, I just recently got an Orange crush 35rt. it's an amazing amp. I was wondering if you ever use the overdrive channel on your solid state amps. I totally agree with you . I prefer solid state amps. The overdrive on the orange amp sounds amazing but I still have my pedals board also.
A lot of people have already said this man but you're a perfect example of why you don't need very expensive or "boutique" gear in order to sound fantastic, you just need to be an outstanding player to have great tone.
Your playing is very good. It's relaxed and inviting. Easy to listen to. And you played Eighteen in this video so clearly you're a good human being. Do Billion Dollar Babies as well.
Dave thank you for being a solid role model. You bring a lot of happiness to a lot of people out in the world with your music and knowledge (myself included)
It's funny, I always watch your videos for like 5 minutes until I turn it off. Every time you start playing, my fingers start aching and I realize I've got to pick up my guitar and practice until I drop dead to get as good as you some day. Thx for the motivation
Hey Dave really dig your videos and tutorials. Plus you shred it up! Johnny F is probably my all time favorite guitarists. I’m eager to watch your series on his playing. Keep up the good work. Cheers from LA!
Dave you rock mate.. I have played for 15+ years and have always based my equipment on what I think sounds the best (we have similar pedal board). Its good to see you rocking the vintage! I have also learnt a thing or 2.. off to get a fuzz now
Awesome vid, as always. Loved the Neil Young sound and the stellar playing. As a huge Young fanatic I would love to see a How Many Tones vid about Neil. Keep up the great work
Great video Dave and some awesome noises coming from that board and not a boutique pedal, amp or guitar in sight. If you ever want to demo some different gear I'd be only to pleased to come over and bring some, I have a Manalishi Corsa I think you'd love. Cheers. 👍
You name it, I'm retired and live in Peterborough so not too far to come, got some nice gear but can't play well, just got carried away with GAS. Lazy J20, interested? text me 07903548277
Awesome set up man :) I love your views on music. not caring about true bypass/effects loops etc. most people freak out without those things lol. I went without an effects loop for aaaages and I made do, I only started using mine because I liked the gain sounds from the amp over my distortion pedal for hard rock etc. Good demo man, love your style and tones.
Hey Dave I love your channel and you've helped me with a bunch of things from figuring out the solo to scar tissue at slane castle to entertaining me with figuring out tones and just breaking my jaw at how you can play squiers and make it sound like a 1000$ guitar. I'd like to know your settings for the double muff as it's one of the trickiest pedals for me to dial in. Keep uploading and thanks for being a musician for us all to admire
Thank you very very much and so happy you like what i do on my channel. I have my doubel muff set with M1 at 9 o'clock and M2 at 12 o'clock. But i never run it on its own. Its always paired with my marshall guv'nor plus 2. :)
Dave Simpson recently I've tried it combined with a ds1 for the solo for wet sand and I like the sustain and hissing from the combination but I've never really thought about using it with overdrive
I LOVE the Zoom compact multi-effect pedals!! I have a couple G2.1nu's... and I use an A2.1u for my acoustic. Really wonderful, well built, versatile, and great sounding pedals! Lately I've been getting into the DigiTech compact multi's as well... the RP250, and RP350... I would love to see you do a video on one of them... especially the RP350 or RP355. I know you would do them justice. Great video and you get great tones as always :)
Interesting video Dave some great tones there - interested in the 'clean' tones do you have the tubes reamer before the zoom or visa versa? I'm mainly blues player appreciate your advice thanks
love it dave!...a modest pedal board for a great guitarist!...that hendrix sound is so dead on! 😄👏🏻🌟....also do you ever listen to any groundhogs?....the guitarist in that band played some wild sounds, ive been playing their back catalogue again, highly recommend the first few albums! ...cheers! 👍🏻🎸
I love that you are bucking the tube snob cork sniffing trend, I have had outstanding results with SS amps, a vox pathfinder 15 that a still regret selling. its a bit small for gigging but the yamaha thr series have insane sound, looks like SS has finally made it! will I be sellimg my tube amps? sadly no but I no longer only consider tube as an option, peace
I finally down sized last year and finished up just a couple of months ago gave my pedals and a few HD multi effects boards away ..now I have my BOSS GT6 and BOSS GT8 Multi effects ..they are older digital effects systems still incredible systems and give me everything I need ..I had two Line6 400HD systems many BOSS and MXR stomp boxes some going back to 1976 and a few rack systems I got rid of ..now have the two BOSS GT6 and GT8..had them for years both are built incredibly well not one single issue with them....great video Dave keep them coming I really enjoy them..
You have some good pedals but I could never stand hum and hiss on my amp it just seems to annoy me I do use a noise gate the ISP decimator is the best one I know of it doesn't ruin the tone at all. I rarely hear people say the like his and hum on there amp but hey each to there own. Good video!
Thank you very much. I prefer d'addario 10 - 46s on my strats and 9- 42s on my les paul style guitars. The guitar I'm using isn't a fender. Its Vintage V6 icon series and it has Wilkinson single coils in it. Thank you very very much again. :)
Thanks for the reply after watching your videos all night I saw that on another video...I use d addario also and I tried the balanced tension set on my strat from d addario and they are great..Its all I use now ,every string requires the same pressure to bend...So now the g isn't tighter...I also use them on my gibsons and on one gibson I use dean markley blue steel ..Great strings but Its a drop tuned guitar with thicker strings and they are starting to eat my frets so its time for a change back to lighter strings...take care great videos..
Loved this video! You are the King of Tone! I like the variety of sounds and they all sound great even if my favourite was probably the Frusciante-esq "clean +Tubescreamer" tone. I bet no one ever gets bored listening to you play. Where, geographically, do you play?
Thank you very very much and i wouldn't be so sure about people getting bored of my playing. Haha. I play mainly in the Midlands area of the UK in a town called Newark. I struggle to get gigs anywhere else. Thank you for watching. :)
I love the clip and you are about the first other than me who sticks a little multi fx in the chain. I use a little Zoom G1on. I use it like you as an inline tuner but also use it as side by side identical patches but one boosted for solos, other patches for a bit of EQ or delay or chorus. I have never used an fx loop, im an old fart. Do you think using the Zoom in an FX loop would be better as I only use if for EQ, delay and mods ... and as a boost... My front end is a wah and a couple of overdrives ... thats it. Cheers :)
I'm the same and don;t really like effects loops other than for my looper. I can imagine the delays and reverbs would sound cleaner in the loop but I'm not a fan of that myself. Thank you very much for watching. : )
Thank you very much. :) My advice on loopers is that every guitar player needs one. Haha. They are just so much fun and as a practise tool they are perfect. I use the Line 6 Delay modellers looper and hate being without it. They take a little getting used to but its worth it when you get the hang of it. :)
Cana you please throw me some advice on how to deal with The double muff in order to get a good hendrix tone. I believe there is something in The way you dial it and also some details as put it right in The beggining of The chain and to use it combined with a distortion after, isn't it? I became a fan many vídeos ago. Congrats for your tone and vídeos! Im happy someone uses this pedal too. Have you ever tryied playing in stereo? I usually do it with too small amps and t really feel Good live, mainly with delay engaged
I always run it what i would consider as last. Basically. Guitar - double muff- wah - distortion - amp. I think backwards. :) I have mine dialled in with muff 2 at half and muff one at a quarter. I hope this answers that question. I have played stereo but for where i play live its to much. I would love a stereo setup though but such is life when you play small pubs. Thank you very much for watching and happy you like my videos. :)
Hello Dave, very inspiring your Channel! I'm shopping for a rotovibe but there are 3 versions out to go😣…whats yours? a JH or JD Version? Many thx for your help! Love your playing, great!
I had that Zoom g2.1u. Amazing pedal! I ended up getting rid if because i got individual effects and I only used the compressor on it. Now I regret it :( Thanks for the video!
Loved this video! Hey! I'm looking to buy an Orange Th 30, do you still have it? Also, loved that double muff could you do something with those two peaces of gear? Really like your channel man.. keep on playing for ever!
@@thedavesimpson was it that bright? I kind of liked the sound of the strat with the shape rolled all the way to 0 but i would hace rolled the gain a little bit down as well.. Well, thanks Dave! Have a good day and take care!
Thank you very much and i do indeed highly recommend the guvnor over the bluesbreaker. There both awesome but the guvnor just is better. Well to me anyway. :)
Nice vids, man! Congrats! I can see a Micro Terror behind you, and I am using one... due to it's portability, tone and loudness (i use it with a 1x12 cab with an Eminence Legend) I am keeping it as my main amp by now... just afraid it's not so reliable. I am considering to buy an old Marshal 5210, but it is a bit expensive here in Brazil and heavier than my current set. If you have any advice, I would be glad to hear. Cheers!
Thank you very much and I would say if your happy with your micro terror stick with it. They are very reliable and shouldn't break down on you. You could always get another as a backup just incase your number one amp dies. Thats what i would do. Thanks again. :)
Thank you very much and thanks very very much for subscribing. That means alot. The tubescreamer through my solid states sounds great and theres no different to any valve amp i have ran it through. The Tube screamer is a solid state effect anyway so they kind of go hand in hand. Thank you very very much again. :)
Beautiful setup. I am switching to analogs and.. I am so addicted to the zoom G2. It is a greaaaaaaattttt multi fx. What settings are you using internally in the G2? Compression and eq.. Thats all?
Great video Dave as usual. I own the old Zoom G2 pedal myself, recently put up for sale, but after watching your video I think I'm gonna keep it for special tasks.
Hi Dave, Love your posts and am subscribed. Question, as you're an advocate of solid state amps (I still use my H|H IC100S which I bought in the very late 70's). How does the Tube Screamer hold up through a solid state amp? I may be wrong and please feel free to correct me if I am, but I was under the impression the Tube Screamer was meant for tube amps.
Hi there and thankyou very much for subscribing. :) The tubescreamer works really really nice on solid state amps. I used my 808 for years. I have a video on it somewhere. :)
Dave Simpson ok mate I'll give it a try! Probably worth doing a demo video based on what your sound would be like combining your Marshall and orange with the same pedal board, and how your effects would differ gong through both heads at the same time; if you haven't already done a video like that! :D
Hi Dave, amazing sounds you got! my pedalboard looks quite similar to yours. I've just tried all your settings with my pedals (Double Muff Muff: 1 1/4, Muff 2 1/2 --> Ibanez WH10V2 --> Guv'Nor GV2: Gain 1/1, Bass 0, Deep 1/1, Treble 1/1, Mids 1/3, Volume 2/3 --> Zoom G3Xn: No Comp, no Noise Gate, no EQ, no Extra EQ --> Orange Crush CR60C: Dirty Channel, Volume 10, Treble 6, Middle 7, Bass 0, Gain 2 1/2, Master Volume 2. I do not intend to copy you but am in love with the sounds you got. unfortunately it does not sound as yours at all. Treble loss (probably Ibanez WH10V2?) and loss of brilliance which i love on my Orange CR60 when played without pedals is my biggest issue. Do you have any suggestions how to make it sound better? How did you set your EQ, Extra EQ and Compressor of your Zoom pedal? I would appreciate your help a lot! Thanks Dave, keep it up making those great videos and sounds!
Hi there. If your amp is still to dark try using one of the amp models inside the zoom. The fender ones are normally pretty good to brighten the tone up. Let me know how you get on. :)
Thank you very much. I'm happy to hear you like my videos. I don't play around there no but i would like to. In all honesty we can't find many venues that will let us play. Most venues i contact up and down the country never reply or are not interested. Its very difficult to get out there and it gets extremely frustrating. Thank you again for watching. :)
hi Dave I sent a message to yo for update on pedal board and essential pedals but would like your views on inbuilt effects on amps if you could do a shoot out on combos with built in effects would be great especially Marshall blackstar vox fender just a thought I know you don't get the flexibility as with pedals but be interesting to see the outcome
Awesome setup, David. Have you heard of a company called Minotaur? I bought one of their pedals not so long ago, the only have two in their entire range, I got the Evil Eye Fuzz and it's incredible. There's a photo of it on my Facebook photos somewhere, take a look. :) Also, what is the cab under the Marshall and CR120H? Bass cabinet? :)
Thank you very much. I haven't heard of them no but i shall have a google. Thanks for the recommendations. The cab under the heads is an old Laney 2X15 bass cab. Its a monster. Thanks again. :)
***** No worries, David. :) They're really nice pedals, I've came across them just recently when looking for a new Fuzz pedal, Broken Audio Devices didn't have any available at the time, but came across Minotaur. Pity I didn't live nearer, I would have borrowed you it. :) Oh right, you use it for your bass guitar yeah? (Well, of course you do, lol). It looks the part though. :)
Thank you very very much and i have done a video on John Mayers tone. Heres the link for you - ruclips.net/video/kGKs3w_Al98/видео.html Thank you again. :)
What is that hollowbody to your right? Is that a Fender Coranado??? If so, can you play it/ review it? I would love to hear it!!! I just subscribed. So I apologize if this is a repeat request.
Awesome. I would recommend the orange compact cab but the voice of the world speakers can be a little harsh to start with. One of my favourite cabs ever is the Marshall JCM 900 cabs. A or B. You can't really go wrong. I hope this helped. Thank you for watching and happy you like the videos. :)
If you use a processor, you need a true bypass out, hopefully. Ot;herwise it doesn't make much difference if you are using a tube amp or a solid state amp.
Hey Dave great stuff! What's that riff youre playing around the 5:00 mark. Im trying to figure out that voicing of the 3rd chord you play. If thats your own riff then good for you man that sounds wicked!!
Would you be as kind as to quickly tab out the phrase of that 3rd chord you did there? It sounds like an A but what you did was really cool and I can't quite put my finger on it. Thanks!
@@thedavesimpson might be of interest to you man!! It's a wonderful magical thing. Really lifts the covers off your amps.. Especially if you are running a lot of pedals.. Look into it man!!!

Bubblez Beano Agree! That Zoom pedal is extremely impressive! Peeps should use their ears not gear page or IG for reference imho! Cheers

Thats a really awesome pedalboard Dave!
Allthough that board sounds good, its you that makes it sounds amazing!
:) Thank you very much. :)
Rock and Roll is good time music! And Dave makes it happen.
:) Thank you. :)
Your playing is very good. It's relaxed and inviting. Easy to listen to. And you played Eighteen in this video so clearly you're a good human being. Do Billion Dollar Babies as well.
Some super cool effects there Dave, you were too modest to mention the biggest part of your amazing tone comes from having Dave Simpson fingers!!
Thank you very very much. Thats very kind of you. :)
+Dave Simpson Maybe, But true!!!
Awesome! I watched the whole thing with my morning coffee. Great playing. Cheers!
Thank you very much indeed. :)
Keep on rocking in the free world Dave.Awesome as always.

Thank you very very much indeed. That means the world to me. :)
Clever and Masterful use of your gear!!!
I like fuzz pedals a lot too, it's a little bit pain in the ass to make them sound good, but when it's spot on, it sounds awesome
You're an absolute wizard Dave, Thanks loads you've helped me heaps. I now proudly own an MG100
:) Have fun. :)
Great tone and playing. Looking forward to more of your videos, Dave!
12 people liked this so much they turned their screen upside down and liked it again! Mean tone sounds epic, love frusciante too. Great video.
Thank you very much indeed. : )
Indon't know how in the hell I ended up on your channel but you're a great player... I subscribed immediately.

Thank you very much indeed. Mine is the JD4s model. Thank you very much again. :)
THX Dave!
I had that Zoom g2.1u. Amazing pedal! I ended up getting rid if because i got individual effects and I only used the compressor on it. Now I regret it :(
Thanks for the video!
Thank you for watching. :)
Cool pedalboard! Lots of fuzz and distortion. :)
Loved this video! Hey! I'm looking to buy an Orange Th 30, do you still have it? Also, loved that double muff could you do something with those two peaces of gear? Really like your channel man.. keep on playing for ever!
I don't have a TH anymore no.
I'm not a fan of it to be honest.
@@thedavesimpson was it that bright? I kind of liked the sound of the strat with the shape rolled all the way to 0 but i would hace rolled the gain a little bit down as well..
Well, thanks Dave! Have a good day and take care!
greate vid Dave , as always. when it comes to Marshall pedals do you recommend the governor over the bluesbreaker pedal ( both versions 2).
Thank you very much and i do indeed highly recommend the guvnor over the bluesbreaker. There both awesome but the guvnor just is better. Well to me anyway. :)
+Dave Simpson thanks
You seem to take a full advantage of the Zoom.
You should check out the Zoom G5, or even the G5N.
I think you'll find them very useful.
Thank you very much and i shall do if i can get my hand son one. :)
Impressive ...the first high end pedal board with a ZOOM pedal.
Thank you. :)
Fran Pinyol
"high end pedal board"...
What on there do you consider high end haha.
Hi Dave, good video, (thumbs up and subscribed). What are your comments of using a TS on a solid state amp?
Thank you very much and thanks very very much for subscribing. That means alot. The tubescreamer through my solid states sounds great and theres no different to any valve amp i have ran it through. The Tube screamer is a solid state effect anyway so they kind of go hand in hand. Thank you very very much again. :)
Good stuff, whats the red strat on the wall, cheers
Thank you. Its a Squire Bullet i refinished in Fiesta red. :)
Beautiful setup.
I am switching to analogs and.. I am so addicted to the zoom G2. It is a greaaaaaaattttt multi fx. What settings are you using internally in the G2? Compression and eq.. Thats all?
Thank you very much and in the Zoom i use the Compressor, noise gate, drive module, EQ, Extra EQ. Thanks again. :)
+Dave Simpson thank you buddy. Great rig!
jimi hendrix頗鬼才!能把一支普通的strtocaster吉他變得更有趣
Great video Dave as usual. I own the old Zoom G2 pedal myself, recently put up for sale, but after watching your video I think I'm gonna keep it for special tasks.
Thank you very much. :)
I'll say it again I have the supercrush combo and the best thing that it could possibly be for is a pedal platform
Just wondering what you used to colour in your Guvnor? it looks great
I just used sharpies. Thank you. : )
Hi Dave,
Love your posts and am subscribed.
Nice one mate! How would you hook up the pedal board to use with both the Orange and Marshall heads at the same time?
Thank you very much. I would Probably use a ABY switch between the amp and pedal board so i could pick either or both. :)
Dave Simpson ok mate I'll give it a try! Probably worth doing a demo video based on what your sound would be like combining your Marshall and orange with the same pedal board, and how your effects would differ gong through both heads at the same time; if you haven't already done a video like that! :D
Great! Why you don't use amp distortion? Thanks!
I do sometimes but i like variety. Thank you for watching. :)
Hi Dave,
amazing sounds you got!
my pedalboard looks quite similar to yours.
love watching your videos mate,
do you play in Hertfordshire? I'd love to come and see you
Thank you very much. I'm happy to hear you like my videos. I don't play around there no but i would like to. In all honesty we can't find many venues that will let us play. Most venues i contact up and down the country never reply or are not interested. Its very difficult to get out there and it gets extremely frustrating. Thank you again for watching. :)
hi Dave I sent a message to yo for update on pedal board and essential pedals but would like your views on inbuilt effects on amps if you could do a shoot out on combos with built in effects would be great especially Marshall blackstar vox fender just a thought I know you don't get the flexibility as with pedals but be interesting to see the outcome
at last your pedal board set up lol so you push a marshall guv with a tube screamer . now i just need your fingers lol
I do indeed. Haha. Thanks for watching. :)
Awesome setup, David. Have you heard of a company called Minotaur? I bought one of their pedals not so long ago, the only have two in their entire range, I got the Evil Eye Fuzz and it's incredible. There's a photo of it on my Facebook photos somewhere, take a look. :)
Also, what is the cab under the Marshall and CR120H?
Hey man! Love your channel and playing. Could you possible do a vid about how to sound like John Mayer?
Thank you very very much and i have done a video on John Mayers tone. Heres the link for you - ruclips.net/video/kGKs3w_Al98/видео.html
Thank you again. :)
Thanks man! keep up the amazing videos!
What is that hollowbody to your right? Is that a Fender Coranado??? If so, can you play it/ review it? I would love to hear it!!! I just subscribed. So I apologize if this is a repeat request.
Its a 1962 Hofner Verithin. I have a few videos on my channel with it. Its sounds awesome and has a neck pickup to die for. :)
Hey Dave I'm thinking of getting a cr120 what cab would you recommend?, btw love the videos :')
Awesome. I would recommend the orange compact cab but the voice of the world speakers can be a little harsh to start with. One of my favourite cabs ever is the Marshall JCM 900 cabs. A or B. You can't really go wrong. I hope this helped. Thank you for watching and happy you like the videos. :)
Is that a Peavey bandit?!? I have one and I love it!
It is indeed a Bandit. :)
If you use a processor, you need a true bypass out, hopefully. Ot;herwise it doesn't make much difference if you are using a tube amp or a solid state amp.
Every amp is built different.
Not all tube amps are created equal not all Solid state amps are created equal
dave you've got to do a chili peppers lesson. similar to your other lessons.
I shall get round to it soon. :)
Hey Dave great stuff! What's that riff youre playing around the 5:00 mark. Im trying to figure out that voicing of the 3rd chord you play. If thats your own riff then good for you man that sounds wicked!!
Its just something that i came up with on the spot. Glad you liked it. :)
Would you be as kind as to quickly tab out the phrase of that 3rd chord you did there? It sounds like an A but what you did was really cool and I can't quite put my finger on it. Thanks!
Have you ever played guitar out of bass amps? I play out of a solid state Ampeg and an SRW. I use some eq.
I have yes. You can get some great sounds. : )
Delicious
Hey Dave!! Have you ever tried a BBE sonic stomp??
I haven't no.
@@thedavesimpson might be of interest to you man!! It's a wonderful magical thing. Really lifts the covers off your amps.. Especially if you are running a lot of pedals.. Look into it man!!!
Do you still use the double muff?
Yep
