These videos are designed for guitar beginners or those with only limited guitar knowledge. They use simple chord shapes as much as possible and do not necessarily represent the way in which the song was originally played. They are designed as practice tools to supplement your other learning methods. Information is provided on screen for both right and left-handed players!
This song was originally played in an open tuning. This is a way to play it in standard tuning - you just need to use a capo on fret 5. I've just arranged this as a way to strum through the song. It does rely on F major chords quite a bit, but I'm playing that as smaller versions rather than full barres and using my thumb to fret the root notes.
I've not included any specific strum patterns here, because the song kind of doesn't need one. Many of the chords are just hit once and then left to ring out. If you really want something to work with then a simple D-DU works.
I know everyone wants to know how to play that famous intro guitar part, and there is a way to make it work in standard tuning. I've included that at the end of the video.

Very nicely done ,this song and it's famous riff played in my head for over 30 years and each time prompt me to learn to play guitar and finally 5 and half years ago I picked up a guitar and started learning to play ! I was disappointed to find out that this song is played on open G tuning and way beyond my capabilities ,it took me over two years to finally work out how to play the riff in standard tuning ,this video is also very helpful and showed me some nice touches in quick changing chords between F and G and A minor ...I am a big Beatles fan but this song is 90% the reason I learned to play guitar ….Thanks to legend Mark Knopfler…. what a genius he is .

You have a point. But it's much better than nothing, and nothing is what you've got with this song if you don't practice for many months with an open G guitar.
With this video, you can get a guitar accompaniment which sounds "good enough" much faster.
There’s an acoustic guitar in the mix playing these chords
