Oh and I have whole video on my RUclips of how I bought an Aquaclear 70 for my 75 and ended up doing that stupid thing and cutting into the rim of my tank to make it fit instead of just exchanging it for the 110 😂
The Tidal Spillway creating a horizontal stream is by far the superior design for surface agitation and oxygenation I had an aqua clear 50 on my 20 long and the water dropped so straight down into the aquarium that the fish oil formed a film on the top of the water acting like Saran Wrap and my fish started suffocating. I had to cut a piece a back plastic from the glass canopy and attach it to the spillway and bend it upward so it would send water across the surface rather than punching a hole through the surface
@@Whips_World honestly, the old 350b deserves more love than I think it ever got. That thing is a tank. It can take so much abuse and just keep on ticking
I just found your channel. Thanks for this information. I've decided I want to keep fancy goldfish. I have a 60 gal with a eheim canister and a tidal 110 that I will be putting the goldfish in. I want to feed the goldfish duckweed but the skimmer on the tidal will suck it all up. I love the tidal but now I'm looking for something else. I came across the new ac 110. I have never liked the aquaclear filters before. But the new ones look pretty good. I saw your last video about the 110 and I think I am going to try it. I just hope it fits my 60 gal. But now the problem is finding one to buy. The stores in my area only have the smaller ones. I did buy the ac 50 to put on a new 20gal tank I am setting up for when The goldfish are still small. Decided to put 2 of them on that tank. Have not set them up yet but they look good. Love to hear more reviews.
An idea? Maybe on the tidal, find a way to secure a sponge in front of the skimmer? That may help keep the interior cleaner. And for the AC water fall noise, secure a sponge there to suppress the noise. Is it ideal, but it may be a viable workaround.
Yeah. They offer great filter media. However. Their rims are so tight and small. I had to make my Fluval Aquq Clear 30 stand on a cardbord box 📦 And It had to use both the suction rods to suck up water 🤷
I really appreciate these videos Bentley. I love tidals. I do have an old AC but i still prefer the tidals. And for all you guys not liking the 70 not fitting on the 75 gals, you really should be buying the 110 (of either brand) unless you just putting 50 neons in a 75 😅😂 but that’s non my business cmon back 🐸☕️🤣🤣
You can score the inner rim where the glass top sits with a razor and it snaps off and the filter fits I have a marineland 120 gallon and the filter sits perfect
I have both an AquaClear and a Tidal (I actually have 2 Tidals), and of the 2 I think the Tidal is an overall better filter. The leveler is one reason, but I think the Tidals do a better job filtering the tank. I had the AquaClear on one of my long tanks and it just didn’t do a good job. In order to get good filtration air had to turn the AC up so high the flow was too much. When I turned the AC down it left pockets unfiltered. I ended up replacing that AC with a canister. I had my Tidals on 40G tanks, and they did a great job, but I was always cleaning them. I switched those tanks to canisters as well. So although I think the Tidalmis better than the AC, I also think canisters do better than HOBs. My go to canister for my 40 to 100 gallon are the Sicce Whale canisters. I am also running a Finnex PX-150 Compact on my 10 to 20 gallon tanks. I love both and can go much longer without filter cleanings, and my tanks stay much cleaner. I also love that I can easily adjust the flow, even in the Finnex they provide a flow adjustment you can fit on the tubing which allows you to adjust the flow and even turn it off which I do before unplugging and pulling the filter for cleaning. Both the Sicce Whale and the Finnex compact are also a piece of cake to prime. So my suggestion is replace the HOBs where you can with canisters. The only HOBs I have left on my tanks are the tiny ones I have on my 5 gallon betta tanks. My 10 gallon and above tanks all run with canister filtration.
Your right Bentley, fix that issue Fluval! An aquaclear 70 should fit a 75 gal tank! And the level device is useless. On my aquaclear 110 brand new out of the box it will not stay in the small hole so I have a sponge as the leveling device!
I know it’s an added expense but the marine land large pre filters fit on the tidals. Just need a rubber band on the 35’s with the small one if you want it to be snug snug lol. I don’t have a new AC I just have an og 20 but i have every tidal they make and i think the tidal is much better but that’s just my opinion and we all know opinions are like assholes sooo 😂
I still like the aqua clears 110s cuz they are wide enough to fit on wide-rimmed tanks and they have a monster sponge filter and because it's a bigger motor I think they have less trouble sticking when they turn off. Also the little lip on the bottom of the spillway adds more horizontal stream across the top of the water to increase oxygenation. Anything smaller than the 110 I would probably go Tidal
Quick question off topic? If you have 2 hang on the back filters both capable of fitting on the same side would you set them up in that way both on the same side or still separate them one on each side or 1 on each corner on the back glass?
The new Aqua clears with the blue sponge have all switched to a finer 30 PPI instead of 20 PPI which means they're going to clog much faster. they did this with all except the 110. when people think they need filter floss or finer filtration think of it this way all those 20 PPI holes start collecting stuff and become smaller holes until eventually water is backing up. I also don't like that you have to take the lid off to adjust the flow now. I wish they would have left the best feature alone which is media box. I don't think the changed angle of the lift tubes going to do anything either and I don't like the open slots in the top of the new lid letting more evaporation happen. The only thing I wish they would have changed is making the spillway horizontal like the title and a little looser Tolerance on the impeller so it wouldnt get stuck with gunk.
Throw that modded tidal on the tank. It'll fix the issues you're having. It is kind of annoying they didn't fix the rim issue. I'm sure the AC70 still doesn't fit on the 75G.... Very frustrating.
