I love the Aquaclear filters. I can't wait until I have a reason to get the new AC filter. I like the fact that there is not a big bulky pump with a blue dial inside my tank. I dislike most things about the Tidal filter, mostly the shape of the media basket. Thanks for sharing the info.

I was just thinking that we need a side by side with the old 110 so we can see dimensional differences, and you need to check part interchangeability with the old 110. Can a person put the new tubing and motor on an old 110 to save a couple bucks?

Before Fluval there was Hagen Aquaclear. I still have a few tucked away.

I’ve been using a aquaclear 110 on a 75 gallon that I have African cichlids in, it works great for the last several years.

I have the AC50 and I love it but I had to cut and remove the tabs on the basket. Not fond of the split sides.

I like them and the old Marineland bio wheel filters

Been using one for two weeks a 110. I like it though I really wish the motor was in the tank. I have to reprime it manually after each water change.

I think the Tidal is a very good filter unless you have fry, shrimp, and floating plants. Then skimmer function becomes problematic. I am pleased with both the AC110 and AC50. Material is better, intake u-tube enables it to restart better with lower water levels, and they are quiet. I’m not quite sure how I feel about the smaller AC’s flow change and if it really flows efficiently through both sides of the upper media sections. Looking forward to your opinion.

I have a tidal seachem 55 HOB filter... it wont fit on my 60 gal breeder or my 75 gal tanks because the rim around these tanks is wider then the 55 gal TANK... Are these aquaclear 55 gal filters capable of fitting around the rims of the 75 gal tank ? un-like the tidal 55 ?

I started using Aquaclears in the late 80s, and other than regular restarting issues, I loved them. Those old models had a knob on the intake tube to control flow, and I don't know why they changed that. It worked great. As for these new models, the only obvious design error is that they should have made the 'tab' that holds the sponge in place, on the smaller models, should be grated, to maximize flow.

I have three Tidal 110s and three AquaClear 110s. I like the AquaClears better. They are simple, and they run. The cover has never been an issue because I don't use it. I grow pothos in mine. If there is one thing I absolutely hate about the Tidal, I'd say it's the skimmer. Noisy rattle monster waste of tech on a freshwater filter. The flow adjustment on the AC is dumb, but I don't use it, so I don't care about it.

So here's my question; I saw all that space above the blue sponge in the big filter. I know everyone else is seeing space for more media. I'm seeing a possible space for a heater. Would this be possible or would it melt the plastic? I hate things in the tank like heaters. So I always use Oase filters. I love them for more reasons than just that they have a heater. And I've never had an issue with them making noise. Guess I've been lucky! But would a heater in the Aquaclear be possible?

I hate hate hate hate how fluval doesn’t list the wall clearance needed to fit the filter onto your tank. Seachem tidal tells you that you need 3 inches between the wall and your tank for the Tidal 55 right in the website.

A side by side comparison is a great idea. I would be interested to know if parts for the new AC will work on the legacy (old style) unit of the same size? For example, does the newly shaped "u-tube" fit the old models? What about the motors? Sponges?l Thanks, Bentley, for another interesting video.

@John Ebsen Unless I have been misled by the Prosecutors in the Case brought against the Defendent Rolf C. Hagen
      🇺🇸 vs 🇨🇦
The witnesses are unanimously in agreement that as long as you or anyone who has the water levels
in or within the correct way this new & improved filtering device shall be free from its past failures of not restarting due to the disruption of electricity. In closing as long as the waters are plenty high your FLUVAL AC will no longer lead to the motor overheating and start a chain of events resulting in damages and loss of life etc.

I wish I had a better attitude, but I honestly could care less about Aqua Clear filters in any size. That weird drop in fold up thing they use to hold media is just an immediate NO from me. I'll take an actual basket like the Tidal filters uses any day!
Of course I also realize Aqua Clear has such a foothold in the market and so many loyal customers that my opinion literally means less than nothing. But I do talk to a lot of folks about filters in the hobby and I'll always point them toward Tidal for HOB users and UGF for 95% of EVERY tank regardless of any other filter they choose.
