A sliding door moment right there.
I want to make a comment- whoever keeps telling Russell to show things further from the city- whoever is telling him to find something more "typical" - Some people dont understand that in Russia the population is much more city oriented. If you are in between cities, you may find "worse" stores somewhere but it would be like judging based on a general store in the middle of nowhere rural new england and being like "So.. this is how typical people really live" And its just not the case. I can tell you when I was traveling around and went to Russia - and went to Kemerovo which is not a tiny place but its a typical siberian city- nowhere NEAR the size of even Novosibirsk, let alone Moscow- there were multiple big lot stores, a huge fancy market called Continent Vkus which would be similar to like a Wegmans I would say, as a comparison of someone who lives in the northeast but basically tons of premium food, and a good number of smaller markets which excellent variety and choice especially in produce like Mushrooms - just blew my mind that you could buy like more than half a dozen varieties of mushroom by weight, fresh, since you could NOT in Massachusetts.... And I went to Moscow and saw a HUGE supermarket inside a mall .... I cant confirm which it was but it was big and basically right off the metro there. That was literally better and bigger and more substantial than any supermarket in the Boston area etc. It just was. And that was 15 years ago. Anyone who keeps looking to confirm some pre-existing bias..... One more thing to note - the small carts, the people buying only a few items at a time. Russians do not STOCKPILE food they buy what they want because for instance - bread- they dont buy 3 loafs of wonderbread and keep it int he house for a month like americans, they buy fresh bread, and so they're already at the market. They also have grocery stores literally in the bottom of their apartment buildings and all along public transit routes. The "load up the Toyota Sequoia with 700 dollars worth of groceries and fill the fridge, freezer chest and cabinets once a month all at once" mentality does not exist there, its a different lifestyle.
Just so you know, not all Americans buy three loaves of Wonderbread and keep it till it petrifies. Just sayin'. Mind your own bias.
And further, something I will mention about small grocery stores and markets that no one will dare to mention...here in the U.S., government small business loans are given to immigrants from the middle east, shall we say, that are very low or zero interest loans. So many smaller stores, especially in the south, are owned and operated by them, and a lot of them only stock what sells, being beer, bread, and diapers. A lot of them put in a small fast food operation and hire some older hispanic ladies to make and sell tacos, and they usually do well. Basically, they are convenience stores and you're not going to go into them and buy the day's or weeks groceries. Most of them only carry junk food, beer, candies, maybe a bit of toilet paper and of course lottery tickets. So again, you can't really compare a lot of small stores in rural, semi rural or suburban areas of the US to small stores in Russia. Totally different operational system and ownership. And unfortunately, not always for the best. And lest anyone thinks I'm being racist, I"m not. These are simply the facts here in America. They can't be disputed. They exist. Now if I had the same access to those low or no interest small business loans.... but alas, I don't. I just get to pay for them via my taxes. Sigh.
Oh well, big cities.... Stores in Los Angeles don't have such a variety of products on their shelves even close.
When I was young, I read a man's story about how his family survived the siege in Bosnia, and how now he always had a bunker with supplies and ammunition, no matter how peaceful the sky was above. I was impressed and gradually began to stock up on food. Then, when moving, I gave everything away to my friends 😅 Then, after a while, I started stocking up on groceries again, since I preferred to buy a lot on promotions. Last time, I simply ordered 5 kg boxes of groceries from the marketplace: moong dal, chickpeas, beans, lentils and 20 kg of basmati, spices. I’ve been eating for over a year now 🤷 Yes, I don’t buy carloads of others food for a month, but my father’s habit of buying something after it runs out pisses me off.

Всё верно. Запасались продуктами в нашей стране во времена перестройки. Сейчас так почти никто не делает, только в удаленных уголках. Я почти каждый день хожу в разные магазины с рюкзаком и выбираю свежие продукты, автомобиль есть, но пешком ходить полезнее 😊

It is unacceptable for a Russian person to drive 10 km by car to the store for shopping. Everything is within walking distance
Our stores, literally, are our refrigerators and warehouses in the house
In order to buy food, cigarettes and drinks, it is enough to leave the house at any time of the day and walk 15-50 meters
Food delivery - around the clock
Socially, it is very convenient to live in Russia
Just don’t talk about politics out loud
I like that the cashiers get to sit down. I always thought it cruel to make cashiers stand all day.

The U.S. It's considered lazy for a cashier to sit down unless they are disabled. You MUST stand to look busy and attentive! And honstely, I haven't seen any disabled cashiers. And in most smaller stores, especially the dollar stores, Wal Mart, Tractor Supply, etc., the cashiers must also do stocking and cleaning when they aren't checking people out. That probably explains why there are few, if any, disabled cashiers. When being hired, though, companies have to state that if they hire someone with a disability, they have to accomodate that disabilty, so of course they don't hire them.@@MarcoK6969

Один раз я 2 часа выбирала на OZON кетчуп - томатную пасту и до конца предложений не дошла! Кетчуп со всего мира! Я решила поддержать Иран и наш Краснодар! Теперь у меня кетчупа на 2 года вперёд! А ещё есть финский и свой, который мы варим каждый год! Но я в каждое блюдо кладу помидоры. Хоть картошка, хоть макароны, хоть рис, мясо, овощи, везде)

Like I said above, I am Russian living in US. I do go to Russia quite often and it is not Moscow. Last year I had to stay in my apartment in Krasnodar for a year. Because of my health condition I could only shop at a tiny store on the first floor of our building. So? It is tiny but it has literally everything! I didn't suffer from not being able to shop in the supermarkets like OKEY or ASHAN.
I was born in the Soviet Union, grew up there so i know the difference.

In the old days 1990s you could buy almost anything in the Tallinn market I was in the military in UK and so was interested in Russian kit. We were offered every kind of thing to equip a small army. I expect there are some some arms dumps still waiting for the Russian partisans to dig up and use if necessary.

in 2023 Russia achieved 12 months of multi billion dollar deficits, following a multi billion dollar deficit in December 2022 (Source : Russia Central Bank data).
The deficits are a continual worsening trend caused by western sanctions decreasing Russia's revenues by 62% from oil and gas, which according to Russia Bank's data is over 154 billion dollars down on the same period in 2022.
On top of this Russia's currency, the Ruble, has decreased in value by 52%, making it one of the 3 worst performing currencies in 2023, even after Russia's Bank doubled interest rate from 7.5% to 15% in 5 months at the end of 2023, in an attempt to stop it declining in value even further.
Russia has stopped fuel exports to prevent shortages, has food queues for the first time since Soviet times and spare parts availability for cars, planes, agricultural machinery, industry, etc has gone from 2 days to 18 months, if available at all.
Lastly, Russians are freezing all across Russia due to heating and electrical power infrastructure failures due to poor maintenance.
These are easily researched facts and yet you will hear every day that Russia is doing well! why? because people don't understand statistics!
Let me give you an example.
Let's say Russia earned $100 and due to sanctions lost half (50%), the level of Russia's value at the start of the next year is now $50. in the next 12 months Russia achieves a growth of $10 giving them a total of $60.(which, if taken from the lower $50 starting point this year calculates as 20% growth). That for some, indicates a growth of 20%, rather than a deficit of 40% from the Original $100 starting point the previous year.
The bigger picture (wider the historical data spread) gives you the real picture, and not the snap shot taken that included the lower figures to support the narrative that Russia is doing OK.
Think about that for a while.
@@rabbott-ee4yu whatever a bot writes, I just want to show this is a sedative pill for western citizens worrying about sanctions` impact (which is actually above zero, but nonetheless not close to catastrophe level). The only fact which shows this brilliant text is a manipulation: infrastructure issues with heating and electricity in Russia, a giant country, appear every year. No way it is about "russians freezing all across Russia". As for queues... just check Russel's channel :)

Die Produktauswahl ist meist entweder aus dem Vereinigten Königreich, Frankreich und viel Einheimisches, aber nichts Besonderes oder Aufregendes.

@@HigherMorality for example, the word "sarafan", "kaftan", "pearl", "atlas", "diamond", "commodity", "boyar", "horse" are the words of the Turkic peoples of Russia. And vice versa, other nations use Russian words in their language. You can check it on Google.
This is an absolutely typical supermarket in Moscow.
Some supermarkets will be a little worse, some a little better, but overall it's a really standard supermarket.
The chain of luxury supermarkets is called "Azbuka Vkusa"
You can go into it and compare for fun. I think it will be interesting for viewers to see the comparison.

I love visiting supermarkets when I go abroad so this is fascinating. So much more choice than we have in the Uk where our supermarkets are crammed full of big brand junk food. From what I’ve seen Russia looks a lovely place to live for ordinary people. The sheer variety of foods here is fabulous

Looking at this with considerable envy from Melbourne, Australia. Neither of my local Coles and Woolworth supermarkets have that sort of variety of choice. And the Russian prices are amazing. Bread seems to be at least 5 times cheaper than here in Australia. Who is being sanctioned?

I live in Australia. What I do not see here is 'stray items'. by that I mean items picked by customers who later do not want them anymore, and leave anywhere in the supermarket at their convenience. I can only say it looks like Muscovites are behaving better as customers.
They do. Along with very attentive staff in the shops. They have a certain pride to their work. And want to shop to looks its best at all times.

I have never seen a supermarket that has such variety,at least not in Florida or any other state I have lived in. As far as meats go we used to have a much larger variety but the meat sections here have become smaller and smaller.

As a Scot, thanks for the shoutout for Irn Bru. Clearly after 700 days of sanctions, they don't seem to have had much of an impact on the supermarket shelves in Moscow. I'm not sure Irn Bru can sell directly to Russia because of sanctions but the product is sold in quite a lot of countries that are still trading with Russia so I'm assuming the product is distributed via a 3rd party and into Russia.
I wrote once about his video titles.. Sanction never was on food. Some producers decide left market directly, but via 3rd party they still sell. Scot looking for clickbait with video names

@@wladdir2853 Здравствуйте! Извините, но вы о чем, я вас не поняла? О предметах для гордости речь не шла совсем. Это ОБЫКНОВЕННО, когда в пешей доступности от дома есть много магазинов. Обслуживание не отличается. То, что мне не очень нравится одна кассирша в одном конкретном магазине, говорит только о том, что это именно мне именно она не нравится (или, может, это я ей не нравлюсь). Так бывает, когда чаще всего покупаешь в самых близких к дому магазинах, и поневоле начинаешь кассиров узнавать ближе (а они тебя). Ассортимент отличается, и это обусловлено площадью магазина, и его расположением. Так вот: я живу в Петербурге в муниципальном округе Ланское (округ - это единица меньше района, это надо понимать. Посмотрите в Википедии, карта есть), где примерно 70.000 жителей. И это число надо поделить на 2, поскольку за покупками правее метро Чёрная речка я не хожу. Зато иногда бываю в Ашане и на Фермерском рынке чуть за пределами округа. "Чуть" в данном случае - это метров 150-200. К тому же численность населения округа Ланское левее и правее Черной речки разное. У нас слева только 3 действительно больших жилых дома - от 12 этажей и выше (две "точки" по 11 ещё), а по большей части тут пятиэтажки сталинские и немного хрущевские, и малоэтажная послевоенная застройка - так называемые "Немецкие коттеджи" (сталинский неоклассицизм). Справа от метро Чёрная речка - застройка плотнее и выше. Посчитала магазины на территории от метро Старая деревня до метро Чёрная речка (около 40 минут пешком, 3 км): Пятёрочек - 2, Семишагов - 1, Вкусвилл - 1, Реалъ- 2, Магнит - 3, Дикси - 4, Красное и Белое и РосАл (алкогольные, но продукты тоже есть) - 4. Маленьких частных магазинчиков с три десятка плюс-минус.

Я раньше тоже думала, что есть такой вот определенный стиль строителей коммунизма в архитектуре. Но когда побывала в больших городах США, то поняла, что это стилистика того времени. Например, в Сан-франциско достаточно общественных зданий с брутальными барельефами, очень схожими с советскими . Одно из них массонский центр, другое - школа, из тех, которые я запомнила.
Брутализм в архитектуре был свойственен для многих стран после второй мировой. И появился он в Англии.

Я живу в Чикаго, уже почти 30 лет, много ездила по различным штатам и городам. Да, есть много интересных мест, но по масштабам, красоте, культурному и историческому уровню, США невозможно сравнивать с Россией. Если бы у меня была возможность, я бы жила на своей Родине.

Процессы обветшания и разрушения зданий есть практически в каждой стране. Но я видела, как выглядят крупные и менее крупные исторические здания и города в России, могу сказать, что несравненно лучше и чище западных и американских.

Last year My cousin retired in Vilnius, Lithuania. Between him and wife together they got 900 Euros monthly pension. They moved to live in Nizny Novgorod, Russia. His own two bedroom condominium cost him 60 Euros monthly ZKX (utilities+hydro+heat). For comparison the monthly upkeep of my average size house in Canada is $1500 Canadian. He literally forgot to look at the price labels. All is so cheap in relation to his life in Baltic state. Ya , two hours from Moscow are smaller cities and towns. Just like US and Canada small towns have small stores. This particular store compares to only one top of the line chain supermarket store in Toronto, Canada under Lablaw food chain It is Fortinos stores. Expect to pay some extra $. Russia bread $0.25, hm. Canada bread starts at a $1 for small size. I buy gourmet for $5.
Nizny Novgorod is a 1.2 million people city, cant believe they found 2 bedroom appartment for 60e, its only 6000 rubles, here we pay it for utility payments

We live Pennsylvania USA and our food prices are five six times higher. I just bought 4 hot dog bakery buns at the supermarket for $4.00. a pound of butter $10.00. A pound of ground beef $15.00, a whole medium chicken $23.00. Our grocery bill without meat is $400 $500 for three weeks of food. Our meat is from ranchers. Really nice stores in Moscow. We eat natural or organic so our food bill is higher. Much is bought online and shipped. A bag of gala apples $5 or $6.00. Interesting to watch your videos. We don't buy most name brands but look for natural food with little chemicals in the ingredients. Soda with cane sugar. Thanks Russell great video.

What a lovely supermarket - so much choice; so many fresh items; so many staff! I know we can't compare prices from this vid (apart from the bread - 25 cents a loaf? Are you kidding me?) I like having a real person on the checkout too. Superior to supermarkets in the UK - no contest. I like how no-one bothered you while you were filming - in the UK there'd be idiots gurning away behind you all the time. You know, Russell, you asked to compare a typical Moscow supermarket with a typical supermarket in the place where I live? I usually buy the products I personally need in a tiny store in our yard. Everything I need is there. My wife and daughter buy food for the family for the week at the Samberi supermarket on Krygina in Vladivostok on Saturdays. They don’t take me with them (I suspect so that I don’t buy half a cart of delicious things that they themselves don’t like😁) Personally, the last time I was in the Remy supermarket on Novozhilova Street in Vladivostok was 3 months ago, when I bought ready-made food for the holiday table from myself at work on my 65th birthday. When I watched your report, I got the impression that I had never left Vladivostok. Everything looks so similar!😄

In the summer, I saw Russian cereals very bit as good as western variants. The imported Kelloggs cornflakes were the equivalent of £10.00 i.e. 10x as much as the Russian brands.
They are not imported, they are made here from local ingredients or ingredients from neighboring countries. I now live in a city where one of their factories is.

The upmarket supermarket in Sokolniki was also full of lots of other western contraband, wine whisky etc. All shipped probably via Kazakhstan. I was around in Moscow for 2 months in the summer. I first went there in 1994 and stayed till 1998 and visited ever since. And have 20+ visas. And while I think about it, I think the nutrition blurb was in English.

In our bakeries, bread is often even cheaper than in stores, on average it’s about 0.2-0.4 dollars😅

All the produce looks very high-quality and fresh. I am so disappointed in the quality of produce my store has been selling lately. My store is not a discount store or a high-end store, but it is considered a medium priced one I guess. I found mold on some things the other day and the fruit is flavorless and dry. Also, the produce has been smaller and kind of beat up looking. Definitely not the high-quality produce it had in the past.

That's not a typical supermarket, I work near for many years, and this supermarket (called "Be Friends") have a lot of products what you can't find in other supermarkets, and yes, prices little higher. Still, this is not just "The chain of luxury supermarkets", it's one standalone supermarket. And yes, people in this area really love this supermarket and spend a lot of money here

Wow. They've come an enormous, long way since the American dollar stores that I experienced in Sophia, Bulgaria in 1984. The Iron Curtain countries have sure become internationalized. Such an amazing selection. This supermarket is much better than the ones we have here in Central British Columbia, Canada. Great to also see the cashiers seated like the are in Switzerland where I also lived.

2)правильно произносить буквы Ш,Шь, и Щ, и ещё букву Ы.
3) различать когда твердо ,а когда мягко( с мягким знаком Ь). Это очень важно,от этого меняется существительное:угол( угол твердо)-это угол.Уголь(с Ь мягко)-уголь( это уголь)
3)Очень сложны глаголы движения.
