The company that owned Smosh (and other channels), Defy Media, was selling them, and the Smosh people were losing everything they created. Rhett & Link found out, swooped in, and saved them. I didn’t know I watched them when they peaked! Summer of 2014, I broke my leg and spent the whole summer watching them.
The mythical show was SO GOOD
This video shows so much about their personalities in comparison to the new GMM. Rhett seems more serious here, but it's probably just the enviroment. And Link is more confident then old-hair-style-Link, but that's about it. They're as jovial as in the early youtube days.

5:23 great editing- I rarely laugh out-loud to myself but that did it.
What!?! I for sure thought their Never Wet episode would be one of their top videos! That was among the first videos of theirs I watched, I think. It's a little fuzzy because of the stuff going on then but I think it went like, I had maybe seen two videos of theirs or something, then on my own I had been looking at waterproof sprays for my camping boots, and over the several days of looking that stuff up a clip of them pouring wine on themselves and freaking out was featured on a page, then I went and watched the entire episode and went on to watch more of their stuff. I know their reactions to the Never Wet clothes has popped up in places that didn't have to do with them at all. It's awesome.
I haven't seen their stuff in a while and Link already has grey hair... cute.

I was thinking about this the other day. The good news is that if it does affect them, they have other resources like their online store, the mythical society, etc. to generate revenue so it's not just their youtube channels. I don't think it's anything to worry about on their end. It seems like it could be pretty bad for a lot of other smaller youtubers though :/

@@xoskyxo3168 basically come 2020 all channels will have to specify weather their channel is "for kids", meaning a child may be interested in it, family friendly content like GMM definitely counts, if a video is considered for kids it will make 90% less money , be unsearchable and unable to notify its subscribers, also no comments. If the video is listed as not for kids and RUclips disagrees then The channel could face a fine of up to $42k
I've never even heard of them until 5 months ago and now I see them everywhere.
