- The new Sony Digital Paper 2017 model has just come out and this device is really solid. It was primarily designed to read and edit PDF files. This comprehensive review video walks you through the UI and settings menu, shows the note taking experience and split screen view.

possibly, best video review ever seen on yt, keep with it, would say you guys will be successful one day, but nm, ya'll already are.
haha awesome ! Thanks for the support !
thanks for the review! anything on battery life? for how long can you read and take notes?
Thanks for the quality vid, could you please tell me if it supports other languages like Arabic PDFs? Or is your ereader supports other languages than English?
Nice video. I love the size of this thing, but wondered if you know of any large screen unit that can not only edit PDF, but allow links in PDF (links from one page to another) and also play audio files from PDF?
Are you going to review the May 2018 update or the new iOS/Android app?
Hey Guys! Great Video.
I wonder if there us a math mode so you can get some equation notes done.
Thanks!
If someone already has a Sony DPT-S1, would you recommend upgrading to this one?
Please review the new Dasung Pro Carta Monitor. Why so many restrictions on WiFi and why not supply a basic browser? It seems Remarkable is following a similar path..
can you do zoom on the text like epub format and then letters of the pdf become bigger o smaller??
I would like for a secretary located in another office to be able to add a pdf in the software and have it sync to the sony DPT-RP1 when connected to wifi. Is this possible? or does it have to be on the same wireless network? It's possible on the ReMarkable, but I'd like the 13.3" screen.
thanks guys for interesting reviews!
thanks so much
It Just fits all my needs, except the price, and Sony needs to figure out How to deal with our Wi-Fi needs and security. In the end, I still need one of this.
Amazon users report the pen tips wear out just like a pencil, they're sold at $19.99 for just 10, I asked Sony if it was possible to use a different stylus to avoid spending so much on pen tips, they said it was impossible, deal breaker!
there are 2 sets , graphite nubs, and plastic ones. The graphite ones wear out really quickly
Thanks for the info!!!
Can the text be turned white over a black background for epub? Also does it have google playstore?
How would this compare to a reMarkable or an Onyx e-ink notepad?
How easily does the pen tip wears down?
I just started law school and I'm realllyyyy tempted to get this. At any given time I'm carrying ~40 pounds of textbooks and notebooks. With this I could go to class with nothing but my 3 pound laptop and a freaking 125 gram ereader. *drool
It would be good if I could see what it looked liked when people use the lines and write at least 3-5 lines of notes in neat handwriting. I'm hoping to get a digital replacement for my A4 ringbinder for work use, possibly with the ability to OCR the notes into MS Word format so I can email it to someone.
My pen doesn't charge. when I plug in, the light turns on for a second and disappears. I am able to write for a minute while its plugged on and it stops working. Nothing happens when its not plugged in. Any solutions please.
Which is the watch, Michael is wearing? ;)
You didn't mention that you can also unlock this device with a smartphone via NFC and not only with a card. Nice review btw. I want this device for reading some academic books and take notes, but the import fees here in Greece will make it even more expensive than it is now.
Great video! Thank you very much!
It is somewhat limited as regards the range of colours, Also I have doubts whether one can cut notes from one place within the notebook and paste it elsewhere within the same notebook. The WIFI is also not convenient. Maybe the next version will address these issues, Even its value could be more competitive. Rumors have it that the next version will come out later this year. Even the home screen could be better
why I am not buy a surface pro or iPad Pro? And I can do a lot of things. If Under 100, Maybe I can try to use it.
Kind of irrelevant, but can you say what kind of watch you are wearing and provide a link to check it out? Seems to be very solid. Thanks.
lol ill tell mike to message everyone about his watch
I don't know about the e-reader but mike seems to have a seriously good taste about watches, a brand name and model would be enough though if possible.
I am tired of my analogue folders so this is perfect :)
It would be great if you did a full video on note taking
as said in the description of the video, we will be doing many more individual videos to come, this was just the in-depth review
I think there is more screen protection when the screen is sunken from the bezel like the Max 2. When it is face down the bezel protects the screen.
thats very true
don't place it face down then/
And don't drop it either. But sometimes things happen. That's why people by cases for their phones.
I am looking for:
-sony dpt-rp1
Or
-remarkable 13.3
But used and cheap price suits me
like 300-400$
Can you show me a site where I find These types or someone who has these versions and sells them at this price 300-400$
I received mine today, and after all the waiting, and all that money ... I found a dead pixel. I am seriously thinking about returning it. But I don't want to wait for another one. Arrghhh!
omg that is terrible, sorry to hear that
What was the device you mentioned wechslar? could you give full name for that.
Wexler Flex One perhaps?
Wow seems like your E-reader is way better than this Sony. I love your videos. keep it up
lol thanks Steve !~
your ereader seems better. this tablet seems to be for a professional setting only, not for consumers at all. cant wait until your shipment of the 6.8 readers :)
well it's very restrictive, we'll say that
Where can I buy replace nib ? If anybody now?
any one knows when it will be out for sale on amazon again ??
just keep checking
Simply amazing!
we think so too
The dpts1 was amazing at the time. This time they made some things better, and others much worse. overall, the hardware of this thing is sooo much better than its software. pity that sony does not seem to be able to do decent software. price is high but worth it for me, but I will not upgrade from first digital paper, too many flaws. Since they are all software, of course there are hopes of good OS updates
Guys is there a version of this product or remarkable that does actually include color? It is the only thing that is missing for me.
hard to find an eink device in color..sorry
Can you show how you can edit PDF files on DPT-RP1?.. or can you make a review of what is possible?
Yeah for sure, that's a good idea. We haven't done a Sony video in a while :-)
The Sony DPT-RP1/B 13” Digital Paper costs CDN$1,146.99 (as at Dec 2019). At this price, why can't I buy a Surface Pro X?
This wifi connectivity is total disaster. I didnt expected that. And why only blue and red marks?! I need black for example as a musician.
I agree.. however, I don't think it's an issue for a musician... just print the final copy in black and white.
yeah, when you look at it, its black, and when you print in Greyscale, its black, so theres no issue, really
Dmitry Bachinsky No, that is not how the wifi works. All documents are uploaded via computer application. WiFi is only to connect to the computer.
Onyx boox max2 better than this shit.
Hi, guys. Can anyone recommend me a 13" E-ink monitor where I can connect with PC? I heard DASUNG Paperlike Pro. But not much. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.
A line tool would be awesome
absolutely !
Can you write a PDF book on this device?
I want an E-WRITER not an E-Reader.
I don't know how to spell this out any simpler but:
I want an E-ink display that can type out a full book.
I want to write a book on an e-ink display!
Someone plz HELP!!!! :'(
Matt Stiles, check out the "Freewrite" it's a E-ink Typewriter, also the "Dasung Paperlike E-ink 13.3" Monitor"
Great video. I'm a scientific academic and would be interested in seeing how journal papers render on the screen. Can you guys display a PDF like this one (I'm choosing this at random: arxiv.org/pdf/1707.02268.pdf) and compare it to a printed page, both in single-page portrait layout? I'd be interested in seeing how sharp the screen is versus the physical page when you zoom in on both.
we will be doing some more videos soon to come
this was just a huge in-full review
I understand why they made it so hard to connect to wifi, etc. Security is very important in a professional setting.
Darren N WiFi is only one option to connect to a computer. Others are USB and Bluetooth.
$699 and I can't even connect to wifi without a proprietary app? I have to charge a stylus with no pressure sensitivity? No thanks
kinda silly when you sum it up that way, huh lol
Just Being Socially Awkward huh? Of course a ballpoint is pressure sensitive
you press harder!
This comment section just made my day.
ONYX BOOX MAX2 coming out soon.
awesome👍👍👍
thanks for all your support man !
how good this reader at digital drawing?
It is not bad, but I think the Remarkable is better.
Is it possible to buy white version with English?
Not currently. Probably not ever.
Dmitry Bachinsky Now it is available in China.
I bet you can make a wifi hot-spot from your phone and keep DPT online if you want
you can do that for any wifi device, yes
but first you have to download the PC Digital Paper program, plug it into your PC, and scan for wifi while both are on, then connect to Wifi
you cannot do it without a computer
Great vid
Please compare this to remarkable!
i wanna see how manga and comics looks on it :p
5:55 The pen calibration is a bit of a nightmare if you plan to pass one of these around a boardroom table, so that different people can annotate the same document. Ideally you'd give each user their own NFC security device and the pen calibration would tied to that identity. But innovation these days is all about being so thin you never have to share any device, ever. Except that _this_ device doesn't sync to any other device, so you really do have to share to edit collaboratively in real time. Major fail.
i want color digital paper
dont we all haha h
Sony dptrp1 update is available esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=DPTRP1&upd_id=10998
The link was unclear. I checked the sony website many times and it doesn't show up there. Finally I found it via Google.
this reader supports the arabic language ?
You can't connect to public wifi... without a computer and proprietary app. DEAL BREAKER. That's ludicrous. Every time I've "relied" on proprietary programs/apps, I've had problems with them, and in some cases could not use the proprietary app it was so bad, or discontinued support for later Windows versions etc.
A lot of limitations
But excellent design, highlighting function in stylus is waw!!!
But as I sayed a lot of limitations including fast wear of pen are not encouraging buying it
Now in 2020, a lot of competitors esp. Max3 from boox are much better
This is revolutionary product that will replace paper/pencil. It has its flaw but im sure it will improve. Most people think it is suppose to compete with tablet. This thing had 3-4 weeks battery life. Most tablet only got 10 hours battery. For reading/studying/note this is much better product.
was gonna buy this for school but im going to save for a iPad Pro instead seems like a better Product than this
Without backlight and table of contents..... Usage of this device make hell
It's all sold out. They failed to anticipate the demand. Looks good, but cannot be purchased. At least for now.
A micro USB port? Like seriously?
Boox Max2 better. Only pdf smh.
A sheet of paper is .02 lol
yeah man
I am so sorry that I am saying, totally failure product.
Wrong Home button position, No dictionary function, No Websearch, Can not edit the files with the computer it makes a copy file, Must be used by Sony app- disaster, Wife connectivity, Can not use app OSX 10.9.5, the menu becomes simple but, missed a lot of primary functions.
A bit faster than DPT-S1 but, absolutely failed.
Waste my money.
Joke watch!!!!!
