  • Join me as I delve into Alibaba's Future Hotel in Hangzhou, China, a tech-forward attempt at revolutionizing hospitality. Situated in a tech hub, the hotel merges automated services with traditional comfort, featuring robot-assisted amenities and facial recognition but falls short in fitness facilities and personal touch. Despite its futuristic appeal, the absence of warmth in service and mediocre dining experiences highlight the limitations of relying solely on technology. My comprehensive evaluation across key aspects-location, amenities, decor, service, and more-yields a Rojo Rating of 55/100. This exploration reveals a crucial insight: the irreplaceable value of human connection in hospitality. Discover the balance between innovation and tradition in my latest review. #AlibabaFutureHotel #TechHospitality #travelvlog

    just found your channel. the Bus Factory video popped up randomly. it was great! then I figured I'd watch your newest video - I think I'd rather stay at the bus factory and hang out with those workers than at that hotel. My experience in many places in China (I know that's a broad-brush item) is that customer service is simply sub-par. There are many very cool places and tons of great opportunities. I regularly leave thinking, "they have a LOT of room to grow" i'm hopeful.

      Awesome! Thank you! This hotel was not a good example of customer service, for sure. But i've stayed in some great places where service is excellent!

    Hey Paul! Not sure if you can see this. I was the interpreter girl when you visited Galanz. Thought there was going to be another tour the afternoon that day so just left without saying goodbye lol. News was that I left there soon after and now working for Alibaba Cloud in Guangzhou! what a coincidence haha! your videos are amazing and honest! Hope you have different great journey as you always are!

      Yes, i remember you. You were very nice and helpful to me. I didn't go back in the afternoon and i haven't been able to finish my video about the factory... i'm hoping to go back there and finish it this month.

    The amount of services given for the price is amazing and should be appreciated not deprecated...I just have never seen a hotel in the United States with robots 😂

    Hi Paul I am really very interested with FLYZOO hotel automation, would you know who can I talk to so I can bring the technology to our hotel here in the Philippines? Thank you

    • @WalkaboutRojo
      @WalkaboutRojo  2 года назад

      That's a great question. Where in the Philippines are you? I may want to come visit. The robot tech is becoming very common in many hotels, but I'm sorry, I don't know how to source it.

    This hotel is probably more a new technologies testbed than an actual hotel.
    Just like the "house of the future"projects in the past in other countries when the house wasn't really for living but for showing off/trying new technologies for example; amazing and at that time new technologies like BIG computers and ordering food via a modem and a landline and big brick mobile phones with a heavy lead/acid battery.

      i think that is what it was supposed to be at first, and the concept was well received. However, they've cut back a great deal and not it feels like a cash grab.

    This is definitely future of motels / budget hotels, i just hope it wont be extended to middle of the range hotels as standard i would hate it if human hospitality is only reserve for the wealthy, i've never been impress with mechanise service industries just keep those robots working at a factory floor.

    All I can say is ok cool but GROSS as well. Did you stay there while Covid? I would NOT stay there. Did you see that bug on the robot at 10:05 ? I would NOT eat that!

      covid was not a thing during my stay here... it was just cost cutting and laziness in my opinion.

    Other than staff service idk why you are complaining too much it looks like you are just in wrong places. Alibaba may tried to give unique experience robot hotel there are plenty people likes the robot or may be wants to experience. For me it looks great and want to experience different hotel not always the same one.

    • @WalkaboutRojo
      @WalkaboutRojo  3 года назад +4

      hello, and thank you for your feedback. I agree, having different hotel experiences is what i also crave. I'm complaining because this hotel was dirty, run-down, and did not deliver on what they talked about in their marketing; not at all. The comments i made about service and a human element are my own opinion and i recognize that won't be the same for everyone.

    Less people working in the hotel is good right now, because pandemic 😷 time.

    Thought experiment: reverse engineer the Alibaba's "Future" Robot Hotel (FlyZoo Hotel) "design point specifications." Low cost hotel stay (definitely in budget category). Minimal human interaction (not bad during pandemic). High safety and security thru AI. Simple check-in check-out. Tie-in to other Alibaba businesses. Seems they checked most of the boxes.

      I love how you can flip the paradigm; good experiment. But for my stay, too many issues. The food made me sick, there was only one service reboot (not counting the ice cream vendor that is everywhere in the country), dirty, fake king bed, complicated check in (for everyone (cause everyone had questions), falsely marketed facilities and amenities (the gym was pathetic, the “museum” was a liquor store) priced as a premium property in the market, staff aloof... we need to fix these issues too

      @@WalkaboutRojo OK. Poor execution. May be the starting proposition is also a problem? Is there really a market for such "low-touch" hotel? Sounds like a few upgrades from an airport sleep-pod.

    • @WalkaboutRojo
      @WalkaboutRojo  3 года назад

      Yes, I could see that, but the execution is definitely underwhelming.

      Simply, good idea like a startup but met some realistic detail problems which would be too costly to fix.

    la idea va bien me parece bien por el precio que esta pagando y la experiencia que esta obteniendo, al tipo le veo mala leche, desde la entrada todo le parece mal esta sucio dice, o claustrofobia?? y la cama y bla bla, cuando fui a california a un Hilton era mas caro y mas descuidado de aquel hotel, no lo veo serio a este tipo lo veo corto de vision, ya por el video puedo percibir en pequeñas proporciones a donde se esta yendo el futuro de los hoteles, y tiene mucho sentido mas trabajadores mas gasto para el hotel mas robots mas ahorro, aunque es nefasto para los trabajadores que van a perder sus fuentes de trabajo, lamentablemente el futuro viene y hay que prepararse ..
