      It's a good idea. I have many videos about hotels in Guangzhou, but they're mostly the higher end properties.

    I'm heading to Foshan area in a month. Already have a Hampton and Urcove by Hyatt booking and will eventually settle on either one. I did browse some older 5-stars but I'm not sold.

    Another great video. I really enjoyed this one. From my time in china a few years ago, I can't forget the terribly hard mattresses that seemed to be everywhere!

    Amazing prices for clean rooms. I've paid 5 times as much for bed bug ridden rooms here in the states

    Hey Rojo, just stumbled on this year old video. My wife and I are in China right now, and for my birthday, we are planning to visit Zhangjiajie from the 28th-31st. Watched your old vids from when you were there five years ago. Where do you recommend we stay while there? Lodging choices appear limited!

    • @WalkaboutRojo
      @WalkaboutRojo  Год назад +1

      It's been a long time, but there are many options. Sometimes the best are smaller boutique hotels, but hopefully you won't be spending too much time in the rooms.

      @@WalkaboutRojo Thanks. I considered Hotel California (can’t beat that name) in Zhangjiajie city as you recommended. Ended up booking a room at Hampton by Hilton, as it has good reviews (and, as a western brand, hopefully not hard beds!) and is fairly new. Plus it’s a five minute walk to Tianmen Mountain cable car. We will take bus or taxi for the two full days we allotted to the national forest park. And of course, we will go to top of Tianmen and make a full day of that too!

    A field of study called the "evolution of traveller's accommodation" can be quite interesting. Societies through the ages always responded to changing economy, business activities, leisure travellers, migrants, war and peace to provide short term stays. In the relatively recent history of the US, hotel chains, motel chains & airbnb responded to changing economy, technology and customer needs. Youth Hostels are popular on some continents but not the others. Agricultural societies have a more static population, less need for inns. China has a long history of operating different kinds of inns as described in classic novels. China's population is now in the middle-income bracket. With affordable transportation, digital technology, disposable income and tourist attractions, the kind of economy hotels shown here ought to be in demand. Let's hope the pandemic ends soon.

      I hope every day that China can figure its way out of the trap they've set for itself. demand for hospitality in China is extremely low at the moment with many properties cutting staff, hours, and amenities or even closing down completely while new properties are postponed or abandoned. Uncertainty is the death of an economy; hospitality and services are a decent barometer for this.

      @@WalkaboutRojo Unfortunately the virus does not care about bankruptcies and unemployment. Good health & being alive override other considerations. Let's hope scientists find a really effective "cure" & "vaccines" responding to fast mutations, then people can regard covid-19 like a flu. Flu kills a lot of people every year too. In Canada the last three years were relatively free of flu cases because people masked up or stay home.

    I’m travelling to Zhongshan next month as a group of 3 adults. Can you recommend a decent hotel that’s easy to book as a foreigner and not too expensive. I’m finding it hard to find one room that can accommodate 3 adults. Would I be better off booking two rooms?

    • @WalkaboutRojo
      @WalkaboutRojo  5 месяцев назад

      What town in Zhongshan will you be staying? Many good choices. 2 rooms are always better than 1

      @@WalkaboutRojo we will be staying in Shaxi. Was initially thinking about booking Sheraton but two rooms would be a bit too pricey. Looking at Lavande Shaxi now but not really sure how to go about making the booking with a Visa/Mastercard.

    • @WalkaboutRojo
      @WalkaboutRojo  5 месяцев назад

      Sheraton is one of the better options in terms of location and standards. It's on the river, good restaurants and walking area. Lavande is a solid choice in most locations for the price. If you're going to Shaxi for business, you'll be in the center of it all, but it's a short Didi/Cab ride to the center of the city. You'll be fine booking with a CC.
