There is a mind heart and gut connection. Pay attention to the gut reaction.
In the field of spirituality, we've known for thousands of years, that the mind is far more than simply the brain. I think within the medical community there has been a lack of understanding on so many levels
WITHOUT the LORD JESUS CHRIST there’s no REAL understanding whatsoever
@@BuildingYourInheritance plenty of non religious people had far deeper understanding than the majority of you sheep
You just kind of ruined your own argument because there is no field of spirituality. The literal definition of spirituality revolves around it not being a studyable field but a personal experience. You don’t even define “mind” in this context. Spirituality is not a class you take in college. This doesn’t make any sense to me.
@@BuildingYourInheritance I’ve garned the most amount of understanding from podcasts like these, I’ve not yet been contacted by Jesus he still hasn’t been able to help me with anything. Can you go talk to him.
Thank you Caroline, the most amount of common sense on this subject I’ve ever heard in one podcast, thank you both so much. So many people I know are attached to their labels for life.
I had trouble following her rapid- fire speech while skipping around her topic. Maybe I'll try again another day.
Me too, very difficult to follow. Needed subtitles!
I can't get past the claim that the mind is a real force that exists independently of the body. Please point me at the evidence for this assertion. I'm taking a pass on this week's podcast Rangan.
Use your mind to listen to heal the brain.
“It is cruel to demand that the personal mind achieve peace, power and harmony. That is like requiring your body not to feel pain. The personal mind was born in conflict and resides in conflict and will achieve peace only in service to the greater Mind.”
This profound wisdom comes from one of the greates books I've ever read: "Wisdom from the Greater Community Book 1, Chapter 35: Achieving Peace" It can be read for free online.
Thank you, Mirel.
Dr. Chatterjee, I'm not really qualified to assess the credentials of speakers like this, but this one does not pass the smell test. You can see from the comments below that I'm not alone in this. Will you address these concerns about Dr. Leaf's work? If you don't I will probably unsubscribe.
Tapping into our root cause emotions is difficult for most of us because we have spent most of our life trying to suppress the painful emotions.
Exactly! I don't know about you but I know more about gardening after this podcast than I know about changing your thoughts and she also doesn't make clear what and how it changes for us. It seams like a long and difficult process and what are you getting exactly ?
Louise Kay is helping many to process emotions long buried with ease and truth
This 5 step process seems like an odd fit if you've already known the why's and patterns to things for years. I've been self aware since I was a kid but it doesn't change anything. I don't really get it. And where does that 16 (really much longer) minute exercise fit into the routine.
The 15 minute writing exercise sounds a bit like Julia Cameron's work - I tried that but didn't get much from it that I didn't already know. It didn't take long (a few days) before I ran out of things to write or I was writing the same thing each time which became really tiresome.
@@ruejacks yeah that part I got but the rest of it...they kept using basic analogies and my ADD brain lost track of the 5 steps she was really getting to. In principle I get attacking the trauma at the root but I feel confused and a little annoyed after this video. Might watch it again but hopes aren't high
@@jdt8983 I'm relieved it's not just me who is confused. I have listened to the podcast twice but still have no real clarity as to the 5 steps. I'm wondering if this is deliberate to get you to buy the app!
Couldn't follow it all either!
I feel stressed just listening to her. Still no idea what the 4 th and 5 th steps are. Her communication style felt very chaotic. I need to now go and calm myself !
Hormones also have a place in affecting our emotions too.
For those who are interested, please research on the concepts of Manas(mind), Budhhi(intellect), Citta(consciousness) and Ahamkara(I-ness). Once you understand these concepts, your grasp on the subject of Yoga(not postures but meditative clarity) will get firmer.
Thank you.Alot of contradictions in this chat.Apples collected ,one said good apple, then the 4 signals ,like emotion, feeling.A second contradiction is at the beginning was said ,do not sugar your depression,or distract from it ,at the end bothe agreed if you feel depressed go for 10 minutes walk instead of saying again and again be aware ,mindful of your thoughts.Third points the contents are chaotic, said in rapid time and not as clear direct points.Too much time was wasted how this 5 system was created although the question was direct, simple what are these 5 steps. Each one of us needs to study logics, philosophy before we write books, talk to teach.Too much plethora make subject diffcult ,to understand avery difficult organ the brain ,how it function, can not be simplified by the tree as an example. The famous German philosopher refuse to put examples in his book ,( critique of pure reason }.ecause he thoughts it will downgragrade the thoughts ,he wanted to explain.Thank you.Agood try ,but there is much better hypothesis and theories about mind -body .Thank you .To work long in subject does not always means you are better in that subject( logic, what is true or false).Even to be specialist in a subject mean false ,as much more to think and learn for our selves. The way to deliver called rhetoric is essential to explain Aristotle).
What was the original experience that caused the trauma ? Identify it and the awareness of it helps to heal it. Shower your attention on it and release with love.
So informative. Dr Leaf explains the concepts so well, so clearly. I think this may be the best talk on mind and brain that I have ever heard -- other than a 3 day, fabulous discussion between scientists and the Dalai Lama in a Mind-Life seminar. Huge thanks to you Dr, and to Dr Leaf.
This is a great podcast Rangan. I usually listen to your podcasts but with this one i watched the video. Very worthwhile :)
Very interesting - does this work when people have such significant (attachment) trauma that they have DID / other dissociation problems? And what about dissociative amnesia when not all trauma memories are available explicitly?
Just wondering if you have also thought of inviting Dr Vasant Lad to one of your podcasts 😀
brain is the instrument of the heart as Joseph Chilton Pearce stated
I think our brains are big mushrooms
"Your intrusive thoughts are your best friend."
WOW, my mind is BLOWN!!
I'm listening to this video over and over again!! 💕
you do a great job Rangan of finding some wonderful brains on this podcast. Always an intellectual listen whatever the topic, and you do a good job steering the conversation into practicality and simplicity for your listeners. Thanks again 👍
"What is the persons story?
That is what we need to look at, because each and every one of us is in life with OUR STORIES" ( @ 17:24 )
~ Thank You ~
Love this conversation. I'm going to listen to it again. Ty
WITHOUT the LORD JESUS CHRIST there’s no REAL understanding whatsoever! Read the Holy Scriptures!
I became aware of the toxicity of ultra positivity in the last two years. It is so pernicious and soul destroying. Dished out as advice but is really a self-congratulatory high minded criticism that is designed to make you feel small and the commentator superior.
Than you Dr Rangan Chatterjee.
Every time I listen your talks I came more illuminated, these one is really speak for my heart for sure it gave a grounding effect on me so much grateful.
I think you are a illuminated human been.
All my love I will salute you
interesting topic but the way your guest speaks - in her rush to get words out of her mouth she is garbling her words together - makes it hard to hear what she is trying to communicate. It would have been better if you explained the concept yourself Dr. Chatterjee
How can you use the techniques you describe here to deal with inappropriate emotional and intellectual responses through what is called knee-jerk reactions?
Hi - Fascinating video - thank you for putting this video together Rangan and Caroline. What do others find most profound from watching this video? I am always interested in all things related to the mind and life.
That the emotional signals are always attached to bodily signals, behavioural signals and thought signals. Yes, of course!! Of course!!! Which means that we can get to the underlying thought by observing and following any of these signals. My god that makes such total sense.
Great. Video but sorry I didn’t get it until Dr Rangan break it down about the trees. Interesting. Topic.
I loved this podcast. ❤️❤️
Thannks for sharing- embrace your depression. Loved the analysis and framework. Now I know what to do with podcasts I listen to and than translate into what it means. Went through a bad phase of post covid depression and did not want to face the trauma of losing friends..now I have the tools to help me deal with it.
This is great
I developed a habit as I open my eyes every morning and when I find myself thinking negatively to sing in my mind the same Godly song. We were made in His image, so only God can make us whole if we want Him to. We are not made like robots. We have the power of choice to allow our Creator to make our mind beneficial for us and people around us. I do it during the day too, while not listening, seeing or doing negative things that society throws at us.
Self delusion can work for some.
Love love love thank you so much for this
This was a while ago, but here comes some feedback anyway; Although this is a very interesting topic, it was challenging to follow Dr Leafs, a bit abstract, way of speaking and for someone who doesn’t have English as a first language it was really hard to follow her very fast way of speaking. Thank you Dr Chatterjee for trying to clarify every now and then at least!
Even as native English speaker, I couldn't understand her a lot of the time because she speaks so quickly.
I set the speed 0.75 ,it made a difference
TLDR: think different
Just curious how this theory would apply to individuals who experience more serious thought disorders. For example, those who live with schizophrenia? For milder issues (related to life experiences), thoughts can be modulated with conscious effort.
This is life changing. Yesterday I went to the neurologist cause I've been dizzy for three months now with pain in my cervical and dorsal vertebrates. He said "sorry, this is not with me." So I told him how much I've improved my anxiety disorder just by watching and seriously thinking in the content of two of Caroline interviews...he said you better watch it.. there's a lot of snake oil out there... I left feeling so sorry for him and his family 😕
❤😊❤
TO think with the KNOWN matter BY the brainchild AND WHY REACT IS the mind behavior actually from memory BANK know and replays AT random that is the MIND
I notice Dr.Rangan stress " this is this is this is amazing" three times during the conversation. I couldn't agree with more his istatement that this is absolutly an eye-opening and mind-blowing episode with Dr.Leaf !
I have epilepsy
We shall never understand the hell what is going on whilst we persist with this hopeless mind/brain dichotomy. The mind is what the brain does, it is not separate, it does not command the brain, it is indistinguishable from the brain. A change of mind is a change of brain, a change in the brain is a change in the mind/personality/ mood/ capacity/ and any other word that describes us as a person.
She is not a neuroscientist. Her own website shows no peer reviewed publications in neuroscience journals. This is pseudoscience
Mind controls everything
Dr Chatterjee, I have lost a lot of respect for you for having this person on as a guest.
What is your issue with Caroline Leaf?
But why tho?
There are so many people looking for tools to control the mind. People are suffering from mental health issues.
