      Great video content! Forgive me for butting in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you heard about - Saankramer Land Protection System (probably on Google)? It is an awesome one off product for Learning how to survive following a crisis without the headache. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my good mate called Gray after a lifetime of fighting got excellent success with it.

    Hi Brian! I set up an Orca survival pouch and have pretty much the same items plus water purification tablets/neutralizers, fishing kit with hooks, small stick floats that glow, and 50ft mini spool of 3# test line. The first aid kit includes the usual bandaids, dressings, bandanna, 12 inches of 1 inch gorilla tape, moleskin, 8 ibuprophen, small bandage scissors, and a tick removal tool by UST. A UST kit has all-in-one compass, whistle, stormproof matches w/striker and a mini ferro rod on the side. An Ozark Trail poncho in a 3.5 X 5.5 inch zip-loc pouch, can be used as an emergency shelter along with the Tact Bivy in an emergency. My water collection pouch is a 1gl freezer bag with double lock. There's also a write in the rain notepad inside the pouch with a pen on the outside of the bag along with a Gunmaster pen light secured in front side molle's. The Orca is mounted on the side molle's of my assault pack. What I love about the Orca is its quality for a $15 pouch is outstanding. The color is a coyote camo and came with a red cross Velcro patch. I added my blood type and a NKDA, no known drug allergies, patches. Just above the molle attachment straps are D-rings allowing me to detach the pouch and use 550 to use as shoulder strap should I want to leave camp and explore.

    ... Kit's can be fun .. and as you said ,personal ... Agree with your top 3 ,, #4 ,, basic first aid 3-4 band-aids , small roll of gauze ,, few alcohol wipes .....Take out the multi tool ( 50 years of camping and backpacking and never needed even once) ,, and Change out the knife for a smaller one ,, standard Boy Scout model or basic Swiss Victorinox ... which gives back a few of the multi tool features ...

    the whole way through i was waiting for a compass that didn't appear. you certainly have a lot of ways to get a fire going, I usually stop with a decent lighter, ferro rod and vaseline cotton balls. always good to visit your channel, i could listen to you all day long with your pleasant attitude to things.

    I see these...
    Cotton bandana
    Combustion (ferro rod, tinder tab)
    Candling device (flashlight)
    Container (ziploc)
    Cordage (bankline)
    Cutting tool (knife)
    Cover (space blanket)
    Communication (signal mirror, whistle)
    Canvas needle
    Cargo tape

  • @gabet6600
    @gabet6600 3 года назад +1

    For wound closure you can put a strip of duct tape on either side of the wound with a portion of it folded back on itself to create a tab. You then sew through the tabs on either side of the wound and pull it closed.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  3 года назад

      Cool idea. Why not just tape the wound?

    • @gabet6600
      @gabet6600 3 года назад

      @@SurvivalOnPurpose The goal is to close the wound with the least amount of intrusions from outside elements. Tape could add bacteria but the real reason you do it this way is as a temporary way of closing it without pain killing injections. Sewing through tape doesn't hurt.

    Hi Brian, As others have already mentioned you are missing the compass from the 10 Cs. There is room for a space blanket and that can also be a container for water, multi use item. On your Leatherman sheath, look under the flap. You can slip several T-pins under the velcro on the flap and several safety pins under the velcro on the sheath. Maybe the pins don't fit the "survival" mindset, but they are very handy to have a times. They are with your Leatherman and you can forget about them, until you need them.

    Chapstick .. extend the chapstick out a little ways . Fish a piece of string in center .. and you've got a candle! .. you can also take a piece of cotton... Cloth or cotton itself .. and get the Chapstick soaked into it and make your own fire starter

    Nice emergency kit. You may want to consider putting in a robust wire saw. Although they can be fragile if overheated, they can do some light work in an emergency.

  • @StevanOutdoor
    @StevanOutdoor 5 лет назад

    You have your compass with you but you are missing a container to boil water or cook food. These zip log bags are not reliable enough IMO. Good to see you have many whistles. I would still suggest a full size compass with mirror to replace that signal mirror.
    What I do miss is 'Care'. Some medication and some first aid kit. You could just add tampons and cutting them halfway open lengthwise and tape on the wounded area with the duckttape really makes a good field dressing of deep cuts. I would suggest some zip ties.
    This pack/pouch seems nice but I suggest using a large fanny pack for it. That way you have the pouch and a belt to attach more stuff you might need or want.
    I have some fishing hooks in my survival tin. I tape them to transparant tape and double that up so you get a nice strip of some different size fishing hooks. You only take out the hook you need for that moment and you already have the fishing line. I have my fishing line on a spool used in sewing machines so I can carry a lot of fishing line inside my survival tin that I also use to make char cloth if needed.
    But overall an good survival pouch.

    Add a compass and a stainless steel container large enough to put the whole thing into it.That way you can keep on track and have something substantial to collect and boil water as well as to cook in. Add fish hooks and some slit shot sinkers to the duct tap thing so you can procure food.

    This is good and all, but what use will a survival kit do you if it's not small enough to carry around? Or at least if it's not in something you wear? I took a 2 oz tobacco tin and put a nice survival kit together. It has 1 Jet Scream whistle; 1 tube potassium permanganate, tube (3" x 1/4" dia); 25 yd disposable bobbin of T9 sewing thread; 1 ferro rod (4" x 3/8"); 1 Photon Microlite torch & diffuser bulb; 2 wire saws; 2 D8 finishing nails; 50' #10 fishing line; 5 #4, #6, and #8 fishing hooks; a #13 sail needle; a #18 darning needle; 1 Sun mini orientating compass; 10 #1 and #2 safety pins; an SOL Rescue ; Flash heliograph; wax soaked jute rope (4" x 1/4"); 8 lifeboat matches; cotton wool packing. The seam is sealed with vinyl tape to keep it shower proof. I also carry two SOL survival blankets, two 50 gal drum liners, a 400' spool of micro cord, a 1/2 x 6 ferro rod, a 10 oz hatchet head, and half a dozen round makeup pads dipped in wax in my vest. For a knife I carry a Cold Steel Finn Wolf. If you can't make a shelter with that and a wire saw, you have problems.

    I saw that someone already mentioned that you did not have a compass. Sunto (sp?) makes a small one that could easily fit in the pouch or on a cord around your neck. You have the bivy, but I would also try to get some overhead cover. A poncho tarp, Snugpak Stasha or a small tarp from Etowah Outfitters may fit.

I would be confident going into the woods with your kit. Nice job and review. One thing though, where do you put that big piece of fatwood you use in many of your videos. Is there a side pocket? LOL I love me some fatwood. Mery Christmas Brian! PS" The Hidden Woodsman is the bomb for pouches and kits.

    Leave half of the fire starter stuff and carry a small sealed tin with cotton balls saturated with petroleum jelly.
    I'd add a high quality thin nylon tarp with grommets.
    Instead of the 2nd flash (head) light, I'd pack extra batteries for the one flashlight.
    I'd pack more cord than you have.
    I'd add iodine pills for sterilization of water and with a folding (flat) metal cup. Aluminum foil is unreliable.
    I have a stick match holder/whistle/compass that I'd pack.

    Good kit. You won't go far wrong with that. I would defintly have a compact collapsible non plastic shopping style bag and probably loose the LM Signal for a swiss army knife soldier/treckker or simlilar and have a mora mishmetal ferro rod. Defintly keep the lighter with ranger bands wrapped under the button to stop accidental gas release. You should also have a 2nd good reliable small compass in threre, Silva do one ( i know you would probably be ok cos you have 1 on your watch anyway🖒) no pen or paper to keep a log of steps and compass bearing? Come on man. Some Leuko tape (stick it on as soon as you feel that hot spot on on your foot, guatenteed no blisters, keeps you movin' my friend instead of of duct tape or a bit of both as you need to get back to safety asap. Maybe doin' a lot of walking, hopefully no leg injury involved eh! Love the show. It's always easier to comment on other peoples business looking in from outside in and it takes a lot of guts putting it out there in the first place so Brian you have my respect and everyones imput as you know will quite offenly be slightly different. Thanks

    I feel headlamps are a hands-free upgrade from a flashlight. Otherwise, it's all personal choice of what you prefer to have to make in the field or substitute for. The REAL reason the "one tool" knife option came to be is many of us have awesome e.d.c. that gets left in a truck and all we had WAS our knife and whatever we could grab at a dead run. Not Rambo just reality.

    I always carry a GAT ferro rod with tungsten sharpener, cheap hotel ballpoint pen wrapped with Gorilla tape (think "Bic"-type from Marriott, etc), a pair of cheap pliers, some 550 rope, a chap stick (absolutely fantastic fire starter aid) and two heavy duty, large "lawn bags". Domestically (not flying), always a heavy-duty folding knife,.Over the pond, a pair of EMS shears. Been over the pond on numerous occasions (4?) with this exact setup (minus folding knife). Braced once by TSA in Albuquerque ("What is that cylindrical metal item?" It looks like a sharpener) "For sharpening fishhooks and kitchen knives, I am a cook" "OK". Once coming back from Paris "What is this? "It is a fishhook sharpener, Sir" "OK , have a good flight". The other items? No interest. Just my .2c. Cheers

    Suggestion for your Scouts - lots of people have old computers laying around. If your Scouts need signal mirrors, they could offer to take the old hard drives out and take them apart to protect their friends/family from data theft. Inside a standard magnetic drive are 2 mirrored plates (where the data is stored) about 3.5" diameter and really strong magnets. Good for any survival kit.

    Perfect, i was first thinking switch out the flashlight to a headlamp. But in minute 13 the headlamp was shown haha. soo, becouse i am picky i would take away one of the water filter and put in a good compass. I know u are good at orientering Bryan but what happens if you must give that pouch to someone else? Anyway good video and have you a nice midsummer.

      You got it right. But I do always wear a Suunto Clipper compass on my watchband. and it is pretty decent.

    I like having a lot of cordage that has almost zero bulk and negligent weight. Deep sea braided fishing line. I notch an expired credit card so it can't slip off and then just wind it on.

      There was about 50' of bank line plus the fishing line on the Exotac ripSPOOL

    Nice kit, as for what's missing I find it more personal preference in gear what works for me may not for you so how could anyone tell you you need this or that. You could boil water with rocks all be it not the best choice but it could be done so then are rocks missing I'm guessing you get the point.

    Hey brother, I think you are missing your compass....lol

  • @tommygingles2779
    @tommygingles2779 4 года назад

    a proper compass because the ones on watches are not always reliable and if you have on a ring or bracelet it will throw off your reading and remember if you are walking to a specific target meaning place or person or persons and you are off even a little you can wander as far as potentially a mile or a few miles or even many miles away from your intended goal so you need a good solid reliable compass I recommend a military issue because of how reliable and durable they are and a few maps topographical are my preferred maps of places and sites you are around but maybe not as used to because survival is not always possible in one fixed position no question a first aid kit IF your not carrying one elsewhere

    Canvas needle?

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  6 лет назад

      The ripSPOOL has a pretty big needle, so that's not it. But you could potentially make the missing item with a needle. (a compass)
