This is a really cool concept that actually lasted a while in the history of CRT televisions.

That is so cool. Maybe some narrow needle nose pliers for the antenna. Nice.

That is an awesome clock radio man, I bet that was like having a 70' LCD flat screen back in the day.

Well, the television sets that were made from at least the 50s to 90s were square and basically boxes. Though, some people would call a television set the "Idiot Box"

I think if more compare it to the iPod touch. You get am, fm, alarm clock AND TV in one portable package

It's a vhf signal tv,. They stopped broadcasting vhf analog signals on Feb17, 2009. So it has absultly nothing to pickup no matter what type of antenna you use. You would have to a a analog to digital converter box.

Even if the antenna worked, you wouldn't get any signal because analog broadcasting ceased back in 2009. If you were trying this prior to that, you probably would at least get **something** on the TV, even if it was fuzzy.

You could stick a course threaded screw into the hole in the top of the antenna One that fits slightly tight and just pull it up and it won't crush the tube in the middle

As alluded to in some comments, your TV would function okay without an antenna. You touching the antenna leads would convert you into an antenna and improve your reception. The reason your 1978 TV does not function as desired is because it has an analog NTSC tuner and can only receive an analog NTSC broadcast. Analog NTSC transmissions were introduced in 1954 but the majority of over-the-air NTSC transmissions in the United States and Canada ceased between 2009-2011. So in short, there are simply no signals for your TV to receive. Modern televisions have an ATSC tuner capable of receiving the HDTV ATSC digital television transmissions that have been used for over the last decade.

VL is VHF low band and VH is VHF high band, UHF is the higher numbers in channels when you used to have analog TV. V e r t hold is vertical adjustment for the picture tube and h o r z hold is the horizontal frequency for the picture tube. Not sure why it has a main power switch in the back like that maybe you could run it on batteries or something.

Set an antenna system up and put it on any channel you want like Spats Bear did. Make sure the channel doesn't get interrupted by anything else.

I have a Kawasho TV clock radio that does exactly the same thing. The antenna screw terminal is missing, but that doesn't appear to be the problem...

There are smaller CRT's out there, the smallest CRT you could see are black and white ones in the viewfinder of a VHS/VHS-c camcorder in the mid 90's and early 2000's.
