    Just wanted say this record player despite not appearing to be sturdy, survived a six hour flight lay over and two hour flight packed in a soft suit case with only bubble wrap protecting it. Surpisingly sturdy, didn't want to have to transport it that way but moved cross country last minute and had no other way.

    I just inherited a Sony stereo system, and the turntable that came with it had a broken motor. Everything else for it worked fine except the very reason I was excited to get it, so I decided to treat it to an upgraded model. The RCA outputs will work with my receiver, and I'm very excited to get this up and running! I sought out this video trying to confirm or deny whether my choice in turntable was a good one, and for my price range, I think I made a great call! Thanks for the fantastic video, and I've subscribed to see what else you have to offer!

    I got this turntable last year, along with a Sony receiver and Sony brand passive speakers. And altogether they've become a great stereo set up. The turntable has worked great and you'll be hard pressed to find anything better for the price.

      The Sony and Audio-Technica have the same mechanism and cartridge/stylus. The Sony has a larger chassis, a rubber platter mat instead of felt, and a USB output.

    Record at 48000 Hz (and a gain of exactlx 100%)! The ADC of this player operates internally at 48000Hz/16bit. If you don't do that, you raise the quantisation noise or produce lots of resampling artifacts. The ADC is terrible in handling 44100Hz :-). If you do it right, you get exactly what the ADC has recorded without any quality loss.

  • @DrVagax

    Like LJ3783 said, how does this compare to the Technica AT-LP60 since feature- and price wise they seem to be similar, though some pro review noted that the Sony did sound a bit better compared to the Technica but the Technica in turn looks better then the Sony

    Incredible review, perhaps the best one out there? I have a question. What is the difference between LX300USB and the LX 310 Bluetooth? Obviously the Bluetooth but what about build quality? Is there and other features that the 310 has that's better other than Bluetooth? Thanks.

    Hello, I've been wanting a higher quality record player for some time. I've had my same one for about 8 years, large one with built in speakers that I believe do not create the best sound. This player looks great and I love how compact it is, however, I am concerned about the speaker situation. Any thoughts on some compact speakers to go along with this? I saw some people using an RCA to 3.5mm converter. I've moving to a very small studio apartment and am trying to limit the space I use.

    Hi. I just bought this turntable and your review was pretty helpful! I am currently having an issue hooking it up to my stereo though. My stereo has AUX inputs and no sound is coming out of it. I'm only using the cable that is attached to the turntable. I've switched it to line and the colors match. Anything missing?

    • @jazz3685

      Just use a different input such as cd or tape or dvd and your sound will come through.
      If you have a high end receiver you must assign your in input such as if it’s have a red and white plug it must be set to analog and not digital or hdmi

    • @ethanibarra9021

      take the black slipmat off the platter, your going to see two holes that are in the shape of a circle and two in the shape of rectangles put both pointer fingers in the holes grabbing onto the platter and pull up. it might take a little force since its metal to metal contact.

    Hi Andrew, I was thinking of buying one of these, can you tell me or link me what I would need to connect this turntable to my speakers or to a 5.1 speaker setup? Thanks.

    • @AndrewOHara
      @AndrewOHara  8 лет назад +2

      +Andy Boz Well it has RCA out. So if you have a receiver, that may be ok. If you want to plug into a standard speaker, you will want something like this: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00066HPUQ/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00066HPUQ&linkCode=as2&tag=maotecrev-20&linkId=7LZOPDDPJTKBEZ5W
      If you want to go to a 5.1 setup, you will need some receiver that is feeding those speakers, and the RCA or 3.5" Stereo will do that.

    Hey Andrew, great video. Do you edit all your videos on your 2015 MacBook? If so, I'd love to hear your experience on editing with it!
    Although it may be seen as too underpowered for heavy tasks, I really want to get the 2015 MacBook and edit video with Premiere Pro. From RUclipsrs like TLD, I know that FCPX works flawlessly on the MacBook, so I'm hoping it will be a similar experience.

    • @AndrewOHara
      @AndrewOHara  8 лет назад +1

      +Matthew K. Yes, I do edit everything on my 2015 MacBook. I have the higher spec'd option but it does a great job. Obviously exporting the videos takes a sizable amount of time, but depending on resolution and length, that will often be the case.
      I haven't tried Premiere as I work in FCPX, but I don't have a problem with it!

    • @MattimusHD
      @MattimusHD 8 лет назад

      +Andrew OHara Awesome, thanks for the reply! So a few more questions:
      1.) Does FCPX ever feel sluggish when actually editing the video?
      2.) If you were editing a 1080p video around 5 minutes long, how long do you think it would take to export?

    • @AndrewOHara
      @AndrewOHara  8 лет назад +1

      If I'm doing something really intensive like 3d animations. If you've seen some of my app intros I have a full 3d render of an iPhone that spins around a bit and when Im working on that, yeah. It absolutely feels sluggish but that would be the case on most. There have been some small hiccups like if I am recording a VO sometimes I start recording but the play head doesnt move nor the video and I get an alert that frames were dropped. But I just start again and it goes fine. Most of my videos are like 3-10 minutes and a 10 minute video may take an hour or so to fully export.

      Paul Mitala It has a built-in amp. There’s a switch on the back that you’ll have to switch to “Line” instead of “Phono” in order to use it without an external amp. Assuming you have everything else hooked up properly, that is.

      It does not include speakers. And that is for a specific reason! think about it this way. You invest in a record player, but the speakers in it are small to keep the unit a reasonable size. After a couple years, you want to get better speakers. But.. you can't just upgrade them. You have to upgrade your whole setup, including the record player. With this, you can use any speaker, including a 5 dollar speaker off Amazon, then swap it out later for a higher end speaker, or even a receiver with some premium units.

      If I may ask here, I got this LX300USB as a second hand the other day and from my youth time I still got a Sony LX510 linear tracking direct drive with T4P element, but that one has the common problem of the tone arm not moving on it's own due to the combination of a worn out tone arm belt and dry grease. The old LX510 is however built like a tank and the LX300USB feels like a toy about to break, but when played (the LX510 hand assisted) the only difference in hifi quality (I hooked up a Philips D-class Receiver Amp with PHONO in) seems down to the diamond element of the old one having more high end and less bass and the new one has it the other way around and sounds perhaps ever so slightly more condensed from a soundstage point of view. But that all seems to be stylus dependant to me. Is it ? Now ever since digging back into records I have had this itch that makes me want to go out and buy a modern direct drive like for example Audio Technica LP60 or fancy belt driven Sony LX500 and such, thinking perhaps wrongly that it's going to get me a much better sounding turntable all together than what I got now. Am I just kidding myself here ? Should I forget wanting a direct drive just for solidity's sake and instead perhaps think about an even better needle for either the LX300USB or after fixing the tonearm mechanism on my old LX510 linear perhaps one for that. What do you think is wisdom here ? Will the LX300USB or my fixed up LX510 just give as best as it gets (safe for audiophiles ofcourse) on a mid to low high end standard hifi receiver with B&W dm302 bookshelve speakers attached ? Sorry, always asking for the impossible, I know.

      You could upgrade the stylus and get a different mat on the LX300 - that'd probably improve your perception of the sound quality (I say perception, as I perceive it to be excellent and don't think anything needs changed - it's all subjective, right?) for a lot less than buying a more expensive "high-end" turntable.

      3.5 grams is kinda heavy. Take it to 2.0

    Any recommendations on decent speakers to go with this?

    • @paulcuthbert
      @paulcuthbert 7 лет назад

      You'd need an amplifier too. So I recommend getting a Hi-Fi with AUX input and buying the appropriate adapter to link RCA to 3.5mm input of the Hi-Fi (assuming it doesn't have Phono input!). Takes out the middle man of need an amplifier! :)

      +kevin de bruyne I usually use a couple lenses. My go to ones are a 35mm 1.8 prime (for wider shots), a 40mm 2.4 prime (for close up), and a 50mm 1.4 old school manual prime (for most depth of field).

    I don't think this is made by Sony. Why? I've seen models from pioneer and other cheaper brands that look exactly the same except for the branding.

    • @SoundsGoodNature
      @SoundsGoodNature 6 лет назад

      Yes, A lot of companies receive their products from mass producers in China. Most battery brand comes from the exact same building, just wrapped in different labels. If something is inexpensive from a big brand, chances are, it's a shared product

  • @quintellian1788
    @quintellian1788 5 лет назад

    This turntable is bottom end despite the Sony name. It should cost $10 brand new. The tolerance of components is very poor: there is a significant factory failure rate for turntables that cannot spin flat and foul the motor belt cog. Truly horrible will totally wear out your vinyl collection- shame on you Sony. This video states "a little bit cheap"?? Are you fishing for Sony sponsorship :)
    I cannot see the point of a USB turntable: you'll also need rubbish software (Audacity) [good software would break the tracks up into MP3 files and match/find track names from the internet (You think 'no'? Yes, you can: the software would match song size & wave form for given artists/album names).
    Instead use an RCA to 3.5mm cable and a computer; save £100 towards real Hi-Fi (now I am not a Hi-Fi snob but this Sony product is shameful rubbish.)
