  • Have you heard about this new MMO? It’s called “The World” and it’s the latest craze sweeping Japan. It’s not like your other typical MMO’s either. It’s completely open and sand boxed. You can do whatever you want, be whoever you want, and go wherever you want. It’s the ultimate role playing experience. There’s just one issue. There’s these rumors. Rumors of people going into comas or ending up hospitalized. I even heard there’s someone claiming to be trapped in the game and unable to log off. Sounds crazy, right?
This setting is the concept of the 2002 playstation 2 exclusive .hack//INFECTION, the first in a four part series of PS2 games centered around people playing and investigating the mysteries of a fictitious, popular MMO called “The World”.

Funny how in the end you pretty much summed up the feelings I developed throughout the video. While the core gameplay doesnt seem particularly ground breaking, all the... Ahem... A E S T H E T I C components that envelop it seem interesting beyond belief. My biggest question now is, how in the world has Thor High Heels never made a video about this series?!
Nonetheless, im happy to finally have a glimpse into this series I only previously knew by name, being too lazy to dig through its wikipedia articles for some reason. Its also one of those things that despite knowing nothing about, its always in the back of your head... in this case mainly due to the name lending itself quite well to any list in alphabetical order... There are third party adaptors that don't have the Ethernet plug in back, but have sata input to use a modern hard drive.

9:44 This is driving me crazy. Let me explain.
I swear there was some piece of lore in game stating that instead of using keywords The World 'originally' was supposed to use runes, and as an example depicted Balmung's character model with a list of runes on the bottom of the player HUD. But I can't for the life of me remember where I can find this (perhaps one of the in-game news sections?)

Did you hear about this series called .Hack//Sign? The series that came before the game? A true prequel. There's more series before that too. Did you hear any of those? .Hack is one of those annoying series that spans across multiple media to tell a long story, sometimes recycling concepts just to make another addition.
The series gets gradually worse as ideas run dry.
The only aspect that is left in mystery is the very first, the original opening story to this entire thing, which shows in vague detail the Epitaph of Twilight. This is only in Japanese too just to make the series more unfriendly to non-Japanese literate people (not the actual reason but it may as well be).
Did you know there is a sequel that directly takes off from the tetralogy .Hack? Legend of the Twilight Bracelet where the two main characters are "winners" of a competition winning the skins of Kite and Black Rose.
    -Geez I'm a weeb.

*loudly snorts and presses glasses up on nose* well actually, .hack is not an open world mmo, it is a hub based, instanced mmo, where your main hub is one of several cities which unlock in the games with story progress, but in the show are all unlocked from the start, you then proceed to use GATES to transport from one area to another which are essentially either cities, dungeosn, or singular buildings, which consist of an above ground and then a multi leveled dungeon, which is actually how a lot of free tab targetting mmo worked back then
