STOKED on this video, your riding, and your commentary. Wrecking sucks but you'll be okay and every fall teaches you how to fall less badly next time. Literally the school of hard knocks sometimes.
Hey dude, just wanted to say you captured the views from the Pentlands spectacularly. I love doing the 5 peaks loop, recently just made a video of it myself but nowhere near the production value of yours so hats off to you sir. You did the hills justice. Worth noting I haven't attempted it in snow/ice so fair play to you for that as some of the descents are steep in spots and extremely fast. Cheers and keep up the good work!
Oh dear hope you recovered from that slide. I did that route a while back after work in thick fog, so didn’t get the views you did but the up side was I couldn’t see what we were climbing 😜 studded tyres required for those conditions, always a learning game this cycling malarkey, take care
I wish we’d done the same matey, completed all 5 hills in 25* heat and my brakes were cooked on the last downhill. We’ll be back at some point on the gravel bikes to do the surrounding trails.
Fantastic effort & at times you do have to push yourself. Don’t know much about mtb, but have heard that lessons can really help. Think there are a few in Innerleithen & of course at Glentress. Spectacular day & the scenery was amazing. So in no way a failure of a day.
Hey Rusty what gave me the confidence riding mtb after being all road is wearing body armour. There is a motorcycle accessory shop in gilmerton (old bingo hall) that sells fox gear that is suitable for mtb as well. They are happy to let you try the stuff on. Save the awkwardness of online buying.
A brave effort Rusty, conditions were dodgy. I'd recommend you purchase some protective gear, for that extra wee bit of confidence, more important than anything is your safety, especially as a beginner, I know it's more money 😪but you would take up downhill MTB, full face helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, gloves, definitely worth it, if you plan to do more DH MTB, Great quality as usual Rusty.. take care. 🤙
I live Hillend area, so quite familiar with this route, and as an experienced MTBer, I would have found those conditions challenging, so hats off for your bravery, or stupidity, we'll call it bravery though 🤣🤣
And your own assment of your riding downhill was spot on, it's not as safe to be on the brakes hard, you lose control of your front end quite easily in those conditions.
thats an experience for you, have to be honest i've been a mountain biker for years, i throw myself and my bikes down some steep silly dangerous stuff but i dont ride in icy snowy conditions, hope you were ok after your fall.
you may call it a write off, but you learned a few new things and got some spectacular shots off my favourite hill ever on West Kip. Probably best you missed out he decent off Turnhouse as even walking that gives me the heebie jeebies! Last wee thing, what tyre pressure were you running on that ride??
Great route under better conditions no doubt. Look into the PROJECT 76 top tube mount for the garmin! Tucks it down onto the frame behind the headset so you dont have to worry about bashing it. On the steeper descents try to get your heels down and lower over the back of the bike to aid with the grip at the rear , then you'll need less front brake in sketchy situations. A great reference and learning tool is BEN CATHRO'S HOW TO BIKE series on YT. Defo worth a watch :)
Looks stunning. another bucket list. thanks for sharing 👍

Well done on what you did accomplish, even if it fell short of your expectations. The drone footage was spectacular!
well! that was spectacular! I would definitely say not a failure, just an experience!

Nice one Rusty it was still nice to see you out making content for us who follow you loved the scenery lovely fresh morning to be out

Ouch! Bare knees, mtn bikes and ice aren't a great combination. Excellent drone footage.

Ridelines or Dirt School, both recommended.
i love riding & hiking the 5 peaks - never done it in the snow and the ice though - good effort
Looked like a glorious day for the views. Well done for giving it a go.
Stunning drone pictures hope you recover soon , ice can be unpredictable to ride on 😮
New name for the channel "Rusty eats gravel" 😂😂sorry I couldn't resist. Hope the injury are not to serious. 👍
Haha I like it!

Thanks that's good to know. I definitely want knee pads after this one!
Thanks

I can't get enough of that front brake lever it seems.

Snow and ice make for great scenery but yeah, riding stuff like this probably is a bad idea in these conditions 😅
Beautiful drone shot, seven minutes in.
That was my favourite
Great weather and scenery. Chin up Rusty! Would this be worth another try in summer? I hear there's going to be a drought...
I'll definitely be back!
Must admit the kips are not the first place I'd take a bike! 😊

It was like 18-20 psi.

You learn from your mistakes but still a good video and reverse your Garmin mount next time 😂
😆
