- Just ahead of European parliamentary elections in the 27-country bloc, two EU leaders told DW’s Tim Sebastian about their concerns. With May polls predicting strong gains for far-right parties in a number of EU countries including Germany, France and Italy, European Commission Vice President Vera Jourova and leader of European People's Party Group Manfred Weber know that Brussels could be a different place after the elections.

When they say "far-right" what they mean is "normal people".

Clearly none of these far right voters has lived under a far right dictatorship. Never mind suffered repression for speaking freely , prission or dead sentences for just expressing certain views . I'm old enough and still remember quite well what that meant in Europe not that many years ago.

Where is this concern when we talk about the green party? They are pure ideology, no pragmatism.

@@ryanv2324Yeah that seems to work perfectly for the UK. They're already now having discussions to increase the ties with the EU, if they start taking that road they'll end up like Norway: only able to take advantage of the EU perks, accepting EU rules, but having 0 say over them.
You can spin things left or right, it doesn't matter for the outcome: the EU is at the bottom line a benefit for the economies, wallets, democractic and individual rights of its members. If you strip away the centralisation then it is exactly that what suffers; because how can you align 27 big and small voices with different interests when decentralized? Then you simply have a trade agreement, which is simply put less a benefit.
@@Broodplank86 yes it has economic value but when people are noticing the negative impacts of EU policy on their countries deteriorating culture along with increasing crime levels seemingly made worse by high immigration etc... people are weighing up the pros and cons.

Wow, he did not even clearly exclude working together with (post)Fascist Meloni in one party. This was not needed to make the obvious point that not all parties on the far right are alike or that you have to work with the prime minister of Italy, like it or not. Even a certain expression of respect for her being able to compromise on her positions in favor of European cooperation would be absolutely possible with making crystal clear where the limits of cooperation lie.
