I have never heard of this before!!!!! This is amazing!!!!! A way to have a child's work on file so that they can't lose it in the abyss, that is their backpack, ingenious!!!!!! I am going to let some of my teachers know, if they don't already, about Dojo!!!!! Some of the teachers that I work with keep portfolios or a filing system for the kids who lose their work consistently or would just like to leave it in the classroom. I have personally had some of my little darlings empty their backpacks just to find assignments so they can turn them in. Mind blown. I wonder if it's because I work with middle school and high school kids????
Great video! I’m thinking about doing one myself on how I use Class Dojo. Your tip number four was a great one! Such a great perspective. Thank you so much for sharing that. It reminds me of when I was doing my undergrad as a teacher and they told us about the negative effects of removing points that students have earned. Thank you for the great reminder! Looking forward to your Part 2.
Also thank you for mentioning the negative effects of removing points. We definitely agree it can make them feel extremely drained especially when they’ve worked so hard to build up points! In our experience sometimes unfamiliar teachers will use the system while covering your class and you’ll come back to find children’s points have been reset or taken back down considerably, which means all your efforts to build them up have been taken away! While we know there are lots of ways people choose to use this resource we hope to inspire others to use it more positively. Thanks for your feedback we will be saving a copy of all the tips we get and using them to influence future videos!
Your presentation was quick and informative. I am like Trinity below and I need more information about this platform. So I can't wait to see your next presentation.
What kind of age would you use this with? We have found it to be effective with a range of ages. It seems to work especially well with upper Primary in my opinion. If you are working as part of an after school club I can imagine the children are probably exhausted by the time they reach you! So every little helps with keeping them calm and controlled ☺️
Thank you so much, this is a fantastic resource. Our school has sent lots of lessons and help to all the parents that have joined , while their children are at home. Can't say how much you have helped. x
I am opening my class dojo for pre K for the first time because of this teach from home expectation of our school/county. How can my pre K class enter the class dojo from their home for the first time? What do I need to give them to be able to get inside our class dojo? Thanks for any help you can extend.
Is there a way to have a specific group assigned a project for them only?? We teach speech and want practice sheets for various sounds to each different group. Can this be done? Thank you!
Is there a way to separate the group points from the individual points? My class has both individual and classroom rewards and it's hard to track the individual points because it adds the group points as well.
I don't take away points but I do give -0 points. I like that Dojo notifies the parents when you give points and or take them away. Sometimes there is an area that student is "growing" in and if I send a -0 point it alerts the parent that the student had an issue that day. So just in case I forget to talk to the parent Dojo will send a message and usually the parents will message me to ask about it. An example would be "-0 learning to share'". This will notify the parent that the student had an issue with sharing that day.
may I ask do you offer some kind of rewards in the middle of the school year or at the end of the school year for the class achieving so many points? (class party, motivation prizes)..I feel the middle school grades that I will be teaching, they will want more incentives than just "poionts." thanks for your time
I once knew a teacher who would award points to the group, but they have to divide it according to participation. Say it it 10 point and there are 5 pupils in the group. It doesn't mean each gets 2 point. They decide if one members deserves less and others maybe more. I wouldn't suggest that in every task.
But I can imagine there are schools that do use Class Dojo in this way. We always try to stay positive. Points are accumulated through achievements. I would be interested to speak to someone with an opposing point of view. Do you use it in your school?
I feel for psychical incidents the child is probably feeling hurt and shamed that they've caused harm to others and been reprimanded already so even in that case I wouldn't remove points already earned.
Hi guys! I've been using it for a few months and find it awesome. Your tips are really good. I enjoyed the tip about not using negative points. I think using them really ruins the whole concept. I let my students personnalise their own avatars. The point system is not what mattered to me. I used it to communicate and exchange informations with my pupils in both ways and share what we do in the classroom. I think our classrooms should be more "open" to the world and to other teachers/people.
Yeh I love to let the children choose avatars- and I love sharing the children’s work and points with parents ! What kind of avatars do your kids normally choose?
Oh for tutorials where it is less about the young person displaying themselves and showing us how cute and awesome they are, who can deal with this sing song voice? people used to train in how to do public speaking professionally and efficiently
I changed the student's profile picture, but after using it for a while, the student's photo turned into a picture of a dinosaur egg. Can you guide me to change my profile picture?
I'm a beginner...and the comments from others saying this is too fast made me cringe a bit. Your kids want you to be this fast, btw. I did poke around in the app for an hour first, to see the layout (just as you would hope your student read the assignment before coming to the lecture) and if this was any slower it would be really hard for me to watch.
When a teacher invites you to her class, can you interact with parents & students that you share? I am unclear on that. Or do you need to create your own list of kids?
I'm a Spanish specialist in a school w/ 830 kids. I got the teachers to add me to their Dojos as a co-teacher. From that, parents can communicate directly with me, or me with them (there are message clicks that are pretty easy to figure out). What I didn't realize until the late COVIDness is that there is a "Class Story." That's where I'm able to put in a short announcement to ALL the students. Really handy for these days.
@@kaycampbell4113 Did the teachers at your school create new classes at the beginning of each school year? Or did they just remove the students/parents that were no longer in their class from their dojo?
YES, once a teacher has added you as co-teacher, you can interact with any of the parents directly, post to class story, and give students points (or demerits). It's really handy as a "special" teacher who's managing many, many classes. This way, the Homeroom teacher is responsible for chasing down the parents and adding them, and you can then just reap the results of her/his hard work!
I had trouble figuring out how to have my photos display correctly. When I would post, the image shown would zoom in to part of the image or photo (sometimes showing nothing relevant to the posting. Anyhow, what I figured out was that each image or photo that is uploaded is reset as a square, so the photo would be zoomed or adjusted to fit a square format and that is what will be shown as the primary image. (no matter what, if you click on the image the whole image is shown). So if you take a screen shot or select a photo to upload to your class story if you make sure it a square, the whole image will be shown properly in the class story (without having to click on the image). Hope this helps someone.
I’m a roleplay and it’s fine you just click I don’t teach a school and it doesn’t care much although it is meant for normal school it is absolutely fine to use it for roleplay
I love your view on those negative points! I already told my assistant we wouldn’t be using those negative points

Thank you so much Sir....you explaination was so great....
Do you use class dojo in your school? Do the children and teachers love it? Let us know here in the comments!
Tell me the code please or I'll cry
Outstanding information on how to develop groups, how to change point value from 1 to 5, and excellent tips on reasons to avoid negative points!
Your presentation was quick and informative. I am like Trinity below and I need more information about this platform. So I can't wait to see your next presentation.
This is a great system, we'll have to try it out with our afterschool programming. I agree, I don't like the idea of taking points away.
Taking points aware removes the whole ethos of striving for a reward for sue

I'm confused as to how to invite the parents in ClassDojo. Can you please make a video on how to do it? It would be a massive help. :) Thanks a lot!
great, thanks will follow you.
That is cool i love classdojo
I love ClassDojo
Class dojo has really helped me

Yes this is what I was looking for too
Good luck for you
Thank you so much!
wauu this is new for me, and look great👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 But, do you think this application can avoid from any discipline issues?
I'm new with this so, I'm hoping it will workout smoothly for me.
Thank you very much Sir, but for higher grade teacher, how can various subject teachers teach in my class dojo, as a class teacher.
This is what I need to learn about .this is great app

I will be using ClassDojo for my university students in China. :)) I want to see if teenagers will love this one.
@Bezi B. They loved it. 😊 I think I got a lot of visual learners.

Thanks for the tips!! I’m now using it

Just a question can a parent use class-dojo to help there children? Just wondering if I could use it at home
No but the teacher can add a parent so the parent can check on the child
wow that helps
How do I download a video on classdojo?
Wow does it really say lazy??? I would NEVER say that to a student. Good tips!
Haha you can edit them yourself so I went extreme !
ohhhhh that makes more sense.
But I can imagine there are schools that do use Class Dojo in this way. We always try to stay positive. Points are accumulated through achievements. I would be interested to speak to someone with an opposing point of view. Do you use it in your school?
For Teachers I don’t use it but if I did I could see myself possibly only doing negative points for extreme behaviors like biting or punching.
I feel for psychical incidents the child is probably feeling hurt and shamed that they've caused harm to others and been reprimanded already so even in that case I wouldn't remove points already earned.
Good
Can I print the avatars? I'd love to put it on the student tables.
My son’s preschool uses class dojo for communication too
It's a really awesome way to reward children on their good work.
Ok what is the point of class dojo? Do the students get any rewards or just points? Thanks
How do you get in
Thanks my teacher gave me this video because I’m in school online because of corona virus :c oooooof
