Thank you so much! I was debating whether to use ClassDoJo or not. But now I think you have convinced me for my Special Ed class. You video was very well structured, easy to follow and at a good pace with examples, and patience.
Thank you for this tutorial. By the way I am an English teacher living in Lyon, France. I teach to students from grade 6 to grade 9. I'd love to hear from other teachers around the world who are interested in linking our classes!
I'm interested.. How can we communicate? I am tge academic manager of an online academy that offers English classes to kids and teens and would love to link our students to yours if possible..
Thank you for the tutorial! This is really great stuff. :) I would personally advocate for minus points in particular circumstances to discourage negative behaviors. I'm all for creating a positive learning environment, but if one of my kids smacks his classmate.. yeah that's a minus point. As long as it's constructive, negative feedback is empirically effective. It can even be an effective way to get the class to manage itself if they are all striving towards a point total. But again, these are very limited circumstances when minus points are necessary.
I subscribed the minute I saw you use marvel characters for your "student names." :D I am an elementary education major and this video has helped so much with my current assignment! Thank you!
So a teacher I covered for a few times this past year let the kids tap themselves into class for attendance but I couldn't tell how she did it. Do you just tap the student icon after clicking on attendance? I swear the kids knew how to do more with dojo than I still know, but it's new to me and not all teachers at my previous year's school assignment used it so I had limited opportunities to explore it. I want to be prepared if I'm in a full Class Dojo school in the fall, so any advice beyond the video content would be appreciated!
hey, thank you for sharing this! I started using dojos long time ago, but now I am rediscovering it for me. I noticed there is an option of hatching an egg, and then a student is able to change their monster appearance. I don't connect to the families and don't use most of the options suggested for now, but want to use this appearance changing (customising) students' monsters as a reward. Is it possible to access the appearance changing option from a teacher's computer? And is it possible to do on a regular basis. My 4-6 y.o. enjoy this so much, but as the monster is hatched from the egg, I don't see how I can change his outlook again.
Thanks MacKenzie. Can you point me in the right direction to join other teachers to a shared class? Also, in my school, in Australia, we have Phys.Ed, Music, Japanese and STEAM teachers. How can I share my class with them, so they can give points, but not get all parent notifications etc.?
If on the app, you could go to settings (or the three dots at the top) and select the "add co-teachers" option. However, I'm not aware of the feature having the option of different privileges/access - all teachers added would still see everything including parent notifications. I do love this feature idea! Would be very useful.
6:50 If taking away points is bad because students are disappointed/discouraged in the consequences, then you should follow through and give all students automatic As in your class. We wouldn't want them to be discouraged or disappointed when they get any questions wrong.
wauuu great, this is new for me🥰 can i use this application too🤗 but In your opinion, is it this application can avoid from any discipline issues? And, do you think, it's suitable for primary kids? 🥰
I use it for elementary school all the time ☺️ I definitely prefer the positive reinforcement through rewards when they do something good, more than disciplinary actions when they do something they shouldn't do, and the rewards system could really work for students 😊
Hi , if a teacher leaves during mid year then do the new teacher have to open her account for dojo or can the old account be used .But what about the login details
I like this app and my grand daughter tries really hard but every time I turn around she's getting a point taken away and this really discourages her she's only in the 1st grade and this discourages me to.
Question! My grade level is departmentalized, so I only teach ELA and SS and have a partner in another room who teaches m/s. We both want to use dojo and I know we can share the students, but my question is if one teacher groups kids, what if the other teacher has those kids sit at different tables in different groups?
When you send a message to a group of parents, can the parents see who is in the group as like a group chat or are they sent individually to the group of parents?
No, the messages are just sent individually so the parents can’t see the other parents. That way if they respond to the message you send, it comes up in their individual message thread with you to respond to. The only time parents can see other parents “interacting” is if they comment on a class story post. Hope that helps!
Yes, parents can send you picture messages. If it’s a completed worksheet/homework I would recommend students submitting it in their portfolio. Hope that helps!
hi, after i record attendance for today, how can i reset it for tomorrow? because i'm facing problem that i can't give point to the student that absent yesterday. (even thought i change the attendance status to present, the point given will disappear) thank you.
Hi! The attendance should automatically reset each day. Once points are given, they shouldn't disappear. If giving a "whole class point", the absent student just doesn't receive it. The next day, once they are there you can give them points again. I hope that helps!
It's definitely worth trying! I think students of all ages would enjoy having a fun avatar and being recognized for positive behavior. My tip would be to have their input of what types of rewards would be motivating so there's more buy in!
When you’re on the main classroom homepage where you see all your students click in the upper right to the “comment settings” and then you can adjust the settings to enable parents and/or students to comment on story posts. Then you’ll get notifications when they comment or if you go to the story post in the story feed you’ll see the comments. Hope that helps!
I have a question. Ive just got a job as an uneducated teacher in one school here in sweden, teachin ages 8 to 12 in sewing and textile in public school. Its a lot running around and I heard about classdojo as a good tool to help this. But there is one crusial thing that hinders me from using it... arguin that those kids with autism or adhd (don no if thats the right term in english, but the overactive kids that are loud and messy but cant help it) have alot less ability to gain points and thereby classdojo gets unfair for those kids. What are your thoughts on this?
You'd want to make sure you include tasks all your students are able to accomplish rather than ones that only a few could get. I'd recommend approaching it with a holistic strategy to classroom management that is anchored in finding ways to empower every student.
Parents should trust the teachers...in government schools, parents don't meddle so much with the way their teachers teach. In this platform, some will. Maybe one or two or three pieces of advice from parents is good but not too much interference is much preferred. I comment on this because I saw a recent post from ClassDojo Facebook where they posted "Let teachers teach." This is one of my pet peeves because generally, in public and private schools, parents have no business interfering with the teachers teaching because they respect them. They only interfere when their kids are misbehaving but leave the teachers to teach because learning is a gradual process. Some parents think their kids are super intelligent and they want very fast results. That is not how education and learning work.
This is by far the best ClassDojo teacher tutorial I've found on RUclips or anywhere. Thank you for making this video!
Thank you so much! So happy to hear! 😊

Hi there. Thank you for the tutorials.
My Q: I share a class with a colleague. How do I set up separately? Without connecting to her ClassDojo?
Thank you so much for this information! Extremely helpful! Can you explain the toolkit features?
Thank you for these tips! I can't wait to try them out in the fall. :)
Of course! Hope you have a fun and relaxing summer! ☀️
I'm writing an essay on ClassDojo think this will come in handy thanks!
Happy to hear! Good luck on the essay I'm sure it will be great 🙌🏼
Hi I’m new to your channel & ClassDojo. Do you have a video on types of rewards they can redeem their points for? I like the morning DJ idea
I'm using it for my Safety Patrols!

Is there a similar application for teenagers and adults?
How can I watch live video of my son in the school
I like this app and my grand daughter tries really hard but every time I turn around she's getting a point taken away and this really discourages her she's only in the 1st grade and this discourages me to.
My recommendation to teachers is only to use it for positive points instead of taking away points.
Can i ask you about class dojo , how can i put the leader or principle schools??
can you add 100 or 1000 to the whole class or is it limited to 5 points each time??
Ma'am kindly tell us how to write a best resume for teaching...
That's a great idea for a future video. Will plan on making one if viewers see it as helpful.

How do teachers approve students to join their class? Ours says, “pending approval”.

Yes, parents can send you picture messages. If it’s a completed worksheet/homework I would recommend students submitting it in their portfolio. Hope that helps!
Hello MacKenzie. I love your video. But , can I add song in the ClassDojo?
Thank you! In the toolkit there are 2 options for music, but you are not able to add your own songs at this time.
It is great but I teach once a week. The points get rise every week or in the class it starts from zero?
You can set it up so the points stay, or to reset them weekly, depending on whatever works best for you.
Do you send an email or anything to parents explaining how to use the app or does it have a tutorial?
ClassDojo has parent invites you could send that walk them through all the steps, and I mention it at back to school night.
hi, after i record attendance for today, how can i reset it for tomorrow? because i'm facing problem that i can't give point to the student that absent yesterday. (even thought i change the attendance status to present, the point given will disappear) thank you.

Are you referring to students or parents?

Hi, I watched in another video that they will change within a week, they'll open and become monsters.
would classdojo work for HS kids?
