Fun fact, the whole idea of the tiny sub thing the teacher does is a reference to a lost Nick show from the 90’s called Weinerville, which was hosted by Marc Weiner, who plays the substitute teacher in this episode
In my school time Substitute Teachers were 99% of the time "vacation" as ned said. Most of the time they just chilled there and did nothing while we could do homework
Yeah, the episode about school is newspapers. Shows these actually angry that money from the schools maintenance budget is missing and when he found out who did it, he is rightfully mad and told the kids that their late addition of newspaper is about the guy embezzling the money
"If its a planned absence there would be a lesson plan in place" Oh this brings back memories. When I was in high school my health or homeroom teacher (I can't remember exactly) was out for the bulk of the entire semester battling cancer; he sadly did not make it, but the school didn'r leave a lesson plan in place, that entire class was me and a friend of mine grabbing Chromebooks and playing Geoguessr the whole time. Looking back I don't know how the school administration didn't have a contingency plan in place.
@@vanguardgaming1779 Yeah, he lived right next to that big ExxonMobil oil refinery in New Jersey, the one that was the center of one of Chris Christie's many, many scandals as governor.
This hits a bit different now that I'm a substitute teacher. Also, the "listen/don't listen list" is actually sort of real. At the high school where I do most of my substitute work, I've often seen emergency lesson plans with notes like "don't let such-and-such student leave classroom for any reason" or "if you need help, such-and-such student is very reliable."
this reminds me of an episode of the kids show arthur, where mr ratburn got sick so he called his sister who is also a teacher to sub, and they think she's gonna be tough cause ratburn is, but then she comes in and starts teaching about colours and basic first grade subjects and at first arthur and his friends like it until they get bored and aren't being challenged, then they are so happy when mr ratburn is back
This school take place in California so different rules. And neds says he's had him in every grade since kindergarten not just kindergarten. Which mean he has worked first second third fourth and fifth
"Where are they getting all the lettuce from?" Ned, you of all people should know that this is a live-action cartoon. You break the fourth wall in literally every episode.
Sometimes they don’t. I’ve subbed for teachers that I’ve had to take over because they quit. One teacher I subbed for took the desk with her so it was very awkward sitting in a meek little chair in the front of the room with a padfolio on my lap and the lesson plans all stacked on the floor. 😂
This episode showed a variety of substitute teachers, but i find it odd how it didn't give tips or dealing with an overly strict substitute who oversteps their bounds. There's a Nickelodeon show called "As Told By Ginger," and in the episode "Driven to Extremes" the main character has to deal with an extremely strict and mean teacher who constantly yells at the students and assigns insanely long essays for any student who so much as speaks. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on it. Note: despite being from the same network as Ned's and Spongebob, it's much more realistic, similar to Hey Arnold but even more down to earth.
I had another experience with some type of substitute teachers In elementary school. So basically the parents of kids who went to school there, can become temporary teachers while their child was enrolled there, because it was a small town/community. There were alot of rich kids that has their moms working for the school not because they had teaching degrees but because their child went to school there
In 7th grade our science teacher was out often due to health issues but the school didn't use a long term sub just different ones each day so yes it is very different per school
It might be down to country/regional differences but I remember that in my second year when I attended (private) middle school, one of the classes which I think was social studies oriented had a teacher who was absent for most of the school year and didn't really leave any classwork other than a year-long film project which never actually got made since there wasn't anyone there to keep the students accountable with more realistic deadlines for updates, so most of the time we just kind of sat around and did whatever else during the 50 or so designated minutes for that class. At the end of the year he just passed everyone, I'm not sure what his deal was but he clearly didn't seem happy about how things turned out. I vaguely remember getting sub teachers a couple times in primary school (same private school), but can't really remember that ever happening in middle school or high school (I went to a public HS), if the teacher was late we just kind of assumed s/he just wasn't going to show up after a while and did whatever else to pass the time. But I'm also not sure how students being out of class is usually handled in the US, in the high school I went to at least most of the hallways and common areas outside of classrooms and offices were outdoors and there were basically no restrictions for hanging out there unless it was getting late at night (we had a morning and afternoon shift, the latest classes ended at around 9 PM, if you weren't in a class from about 8 PM onward the prefects would ask you to leave). There were also no restrictions for how often you could go in and out of the school grounds outside of that same late hour thing (the exit was always open, to go in you just had to flash your school ID, both were closed after a certain hour and someone had to be there to let out the students who got out late). From what I remember of the private school I went to before that (they had HS level classes too), that wasn't really the case there, so I wonder what would've ended up happening in the same situation.
I remember that we once had a substitute teacher in my Spanish class who didn't even speak Spanish. He just sat at the desk and told the class to work on page 22 of the book. One student corrected him and said "viente-dos" and he just gave a puzzled "what?". Guy was completely unqualified.
Mr. Brandon, I had one sub experience that I remember. The first one was in middle school, there was a long term sub because my math teacher had a baby and the students just cheated the whole time the sub was there till the teacher came back she put out a test and watched over the whole class. Needless to say more then half the class failed the test and they were sent to the principle to explain why they it seemed like they were learning stuff when the sub was there and alot of kids failed that year
In my school, they usually had about 6 or so recurring subs that would rotate around, so you never knew really who you'd get till you were there in the class with 'em. Usually you just knew there would be a sub today. Some were more popular than others but usually it was pretty much a study hall day where they'd take attendance, and we'd just spend the day working on homework and such. Sometimes they had a work sheet or something like that and have use do that. Never really had a long term sub myself, usually just one day, maybe three at the most. There was some weird thing that happened with one of the English teachers where they ended up having to replace the regular teacher, wasn't in that class though, so no idea how that ended up getting handled or even what that was all about. Some rumors and such about that but no idea what was true vs what was kids exaggeration.
Ive seen teachers leave notes on who to trust/not trust. Its not an official list, more suggestions on who to ask if you need to know something. Then theres a heads up on who NOT to ask or any behaviours you need to know about. For example if one kid is ALWAYS trying to hang out in the bathroom daily or see the nurse constantly. Maybe theres 2 kids who should never be put together. In my sons case they didnt leave him with subs. He got to visit another teachers room for the day as he was used to the other grade level teachers and didnt do well with new people.
I loved this episode as a kid. I definitely remember having some terrible substitutes that couldn't be bothered to be there. I also had a few subs that came back a few times over the year and everyone in class loved them.
What a good way to celebrate my birthday watching one of my favorite episodes of Ned declassified and with one of my favorite subscribers its a great combination.
I still remember my 11th grade year for my Drama Class our teacher was fired or something almost half way though the year so most of the year we had a sub. Since it was so sudden the Administrator who handles that part of the school had to make the lesson plans for us to do. We got a new Drama teacher about a month or two before the school year finished. She was recently finished with college as well. I got to know her my 12 grade year when I took Technical Theater Class since she became the full time Drama teacher.
I'm always down for more Hey Arnold on this channel! There are a ton of great school episodes of Hey Arnold. Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing him react to the entire series, school or no school. Hopefully he'll get some more up soon.

I’m a substitute, and have been mostly the one day sub. There were lesson plans that did amount to either have the classes do worksheets or to teach the class about what they need to learn. I have yet to do the latter for the High School, so my days do vary. And yes, I have been taken advantage of, and may have raised my voice at a class out of frustration.
So one time in high school it was my junior year and we had a substitute teacher for my chemistry class and in the middle of class the substitute teacher actually fell asleep thankfully he woke up before the end of class he did give us the assignments that we were supposed to do before he fell asleep and we did do our work i think he was one of the long term substitutes and that situation only happened once from what I remember
Interesting seeing this as in some countries, like Finland I believe, they actually got rid of substitute teachers. You just don't have class that period like in college.
Back in Grades Pre-k through 6th grade long term and short term subs I've head always gave work and taught just like the teacher. However, after reaching 7th through 12th grade only long term subs teach lessons. While the short term subs just sat down and watched over the class. While everyone would quietly talk with each other, do their homework, play on their phones, and etc. During Community College and College professors would cancel the lectures on the days they aren't available. But they'll give work to do at home on websites like Zybook or Blackboard.
During I think my sophmore year of high school I was in an algebra class in which about the first quarter of the semester the teacher was out dealing with health issues so we had like 2 or 3 different long term subs. Everyone was doing great in the class till the actual teacher returned all of us started failing all the work lol. Gladly that teacher battled her illness and continued teaching at that school at least for the time being that I was there. During the time of one of the subs I remember going to the library which was a big library. The sub was helping a student all the way in the back and another teacher had brought that sub a cup of coffee and since he didn't see, my friend dared me to take a sip out of it. 13:04 My senior year of high school in a geometry class we had a sub where the teacher left a note saying that the class was a tough class due to the students not being well behaved. That sub yelled at the class aloott. Luckily that sub remembered me from previous years and knew I was particularly behaved so I didn't get yelled at like the rest of the class.
I had long term subs during 2nd grade, 5th grade, and 12th grade for teachers that were in hospitals. The actual teacher returned in 2nd and 12th grade. However, in 5th grade the teacher was out for a long time twice. The first time the teacher was out in the hospital, and a long term sub took over and the teacher return. Then the second time the teacher was out of the rest of the year and the long term sub took over the teacher.
@@SchoolPrincipalReacts I also forgot to write that back in 9th grade there was a long term sub that took over a teachers role from the begin to the end of the year. The actually teacher never showed up throughout on the first day and throughout the year. And then the following year that teacher returned.
I never had an issue with the subs at school. One was prone to showing movies, which was fun on a rare occasion, but it got old after awhile if we had him too much. It ment no homework anyways though.
I remember in high school an sub was in the last class before leaving. Seniors can leave early, 1 senior in class cane fight (With words) with sub abuse she don’t believe her the student
At the end when it came to the Sweeny giving them that test it was clear he knew what happened with the other subs and this was to teach them the hard lesson that ned gave as a tip. I would assume that it the subs went well, with the exception of cookie most likely, he would have reviewed and have them take the test the next day.
Colleges don't get substitutes, class will typically just be canceled if the professor can't make it. Usually there will be an email to students explaining this as well as reading and assignments for the day that can be done from home so there's no falling behind.
@@SchoolPrincipalReacts Hello there! I know it’s been a while, just busy with getting ready for my class when fall quarter to start at my university. I’ll still react to your video whenever I’m free
I remember having a sub in 6th grade English as my original teacher was out due to her third trimester of pregnancy, and she was super mean, so mean that many of the parents actually complained to the principal but sadly they didn’t replace her. My classmates and I were so happy when mrs.Black came back.
In yoga class we would sometimes have subs and instead of teaching us a yoga routine they would play a video no one in the class followed the video we just sat there watching it
I used to not care for having a sub until my senior year when my grandpa retired and became a sub in my district. My heart would race every time my teachers said there was gonna be a sub 😭 never appreciated my teachers more until then
Funny how Mr. Wiener says he rescued him 3 times, and Moze says he rescued him once, implying he went into the girls room 4 times, which is how many times he goes into the girls bathroom in the course of this show. (You saw the first time in the cheaters episode)
When Mr. Ratburn from Arthur in one episode had lost his voice, and his younger sister, Ms. Ratburn, took over as a substitute teacher for a week until he got better.
The thing that bothered me most about subs were whenever they took attendance, they would get certain people’s names wrong (though never me). This show might take place in North Carolina, since that’s where James K. Polk was born.
I got an idea for a future video for you. In addition to doing a Gordy potential firings compilation, you should also do a compilation of every time Gordy leaves his work for the night guy.
My mom substitutes and does in class support. She will not do ISS anymore. Would prefer not to do highschool. Her favorite is elementary school cause they love her and want to learn. She also likes doing the library and front office.
True story- when I was in high school, there were two students who managed to trick a sub into thinking they were foreign exchange students. So the sub didn't do much with them or have them participate, because she thought they didn't speak english 😆😆
I remember having a teacher in 4th grade his name was Adam Kemmerling back in 2013 and another one of my favorite things he did was I showed him a Lego commercial from a theme called galaxy squad (which is a space theme where these guys fight bug aliens who have been trapping people in purple cocoons) and he got a set for the classroom it was called the big obliterater edit: this is the commercial ruclips.net/video/kUTedJH30bc/видео.htmlsi=2oYpIUryPV0VQpGl
I remember one time are teacher was out sick and no sub ever showed up. And yes in elementry school i do remember A sub who used puppets and if you were good in class you got to play with her puppets at recuess. And though for the most part i had good subs. I do remember A horrible sub who at recuess told all the kids not to tell on students doimg bad things unless you get heart and bleed. I actually got in A fight with A student who stole my jumprope and used it to climb the jungle gym. Told her and nothing happened till we tugged on the jump rope so tight and i got injured when i hit the black top real hard And bleed. Then she took action. I hope she got fired for that.
When you were a band director, what did you leave for non music educator subs when you were out? I know my band classes with a sub were either a study period or the class would have to listen to a musical piece and spend the rest of class writing about it, since a regular sub may not be equipped to conduct the band.
I’m not trying to be offensive but there are cases that have happened to me where some lazy students relied on me to do their work because I actually done work when subs were in
Hi There Sir Principal Brandon! When I Was In Middle School You Had To Be In The 8th Grade To Be A Teachers Assistant! And When I Was In High School You Had To Be A Junior Or A Senior To Be A Teachers Assistant! Why Would That Be Sir Principal Brandon!?
Okay, maybe I'm overthinking this, and I understand that he is a faculty member, but wouldn't Mr. Weiner going into the girls bathroom, even if it's to rescue a student, be an issue?

This show actually takes place in Los Angeles California.
Wow 😮
@@SchoolPrincipalReacts I also forgot to write that back in 9th grade there was a long term sub that took over a teachers role from the begin to the end of the year. The actually teacher never showed up throughout on the first day and throughout the year. And then the following year that teacher returned.
I never had an issue with the subs at school. One was prone to showing movies, which was fun on a rare occasion, but it got old after awhile if we had him too much. It ment no homework anyways though.
Ned had tips on how to survive school. I wonder if he had tips on how to fend off a walrus
11:00 one of my regular teachers in middle school got in trouble for literally doing this
Literally trying a dance party in class. Super awkward. She got many compliments even from my own parents
I remember in high school an sub was in the last class before leaving. Seniors can leave early, 1 senior in class cane fight (With words) with sub abuse she don’t believe her the student
I remember a teacher painting her nails in the middle of class...
Wow 😮
At the end when it came to the Sweeny giving them that test it was clear he knew what happened with the other subs and this was to teach them the hard lesson that ned gave as a tip. I would assume that it the subs went well, with the exception of cookie most likely, he would have reviewed and have them take the test the next day.
Its always good to see Doris and the huge crew👍🏼
One of my first glasses cases has that exact pattern as the old lady’s vest 🌈😻
Colleges don't get substitutes, class will typically just be canceled if the professor can't make it. Usually there will be an email to students explaining this as well as reading and assignments for the day that can be done from home so there's no falling behind.
As a chemistry professor at ucsd, I can agree
Hi @rickyrackz it’s been a while! 🧪
How was sub mean? Were students being bad?
In yoga class we would sometimes have subs and instead of teaching us a yoga routine they would play a video no one in the class followed the video we just sat there watching it
I used to not care for having a sub until my senior year when my grandpa retired and became a sub in my district. My heart would race every time my teachers said there was gonna be a sub 😭 never appreciated my teachers more until then
I remember having a long term sub in 5th grade for much of the school year that I almost forgot what my regular teacher looked like.
Lol
The way "Tiny Sub" taught Moby Dick is the same way the Oversimplified YT channel teaches history. It's EXTREMELY effective.
I love Oversimplified but they quit making videos!
@@SchoolPrincipalReacts Did they really? I just thought it took them a long time! D:
Funny how Mr. Wiener says he rescued him 3 times, and Moze says he rescued him once, implying he went into the girls room 4 times, which is how many times he goes into the girls bathroom in the course of this show. (You saw the first time in the cheaters episode)
When Mr. Ratburn from Arthur in one episode had lost his voice, and his younger sister, Ms. Ratburn, took over as a substitute teacher for a week until he got better.
I Like To See Brandon To React To To That Episode.
I remember a sub teacher was fired for picking up a desk with a student in it and shook it
Teacher the next day: I never had a bad note like this one for my 20 years of teaching.
Hahaha yes! 😂
Lol
In the Listen To: List. Coconuthead's name is listed as "Coconuthead" 🤣
😂
My mom substitutes and does in class support. She will not do ISS anymore. Would prefer not to do highschool. Her favorite is elementary school cause they love her and want to learn. She also likes doing the library and front office.
17:30 I’m actually in the process of becoming a substitute teacher myself!
Cool
Subs in my school of Arkansas did not need a teaching license whatsoever maybe just a high school diploma
Same in Georgia.
I had a sub who subbed for my middle school and ik her as a co teacher in my elementary. She would help me with math work when I was in 5th grade.
Cool
You should watch episodes of Daria. Particularly the Teacher's Strike episode.
True story- when I was in high school, there were two students who managed to trick a sub into thinking they were foreign exchange students. So the sub didn't do much with them or have them participate, because she thought they didn't speak english 😆😆
Wow 😮 😂
Funny enough, I read Moby Dick in Middle school.
Tuesday Nedday. Got my ray bans and white sport coat 🧥
I had a substitute who vowed neverto come back to our school cause our class was so out of control.
Should try watching Hannah Montana Season 4 Ep 2 Hannah Montana to the Principal’s Office
That one’s principle was crazy 😂
When you were a band director, what did you leave for non music educator subs when you were out? I know my band classes with a sub were either a study period or the class would have to listen to a musical piece and spend the rest of class writing about it, since a regular sub may not be equipped to conduct the band.
Either a writing assignment, a video with writing assignment, or allowed them to practice their instruments.
26:30 - Isin't that Marc Weiner From #figureitout ?
In California you need a bachelors degree and to pass an exam called the cbest to be a substitute. 😀
Interesting. Yes it varies by state. Georgia doesn’t require this but there are counties within Georgia that do. 👍
What was that thing on Cookie’s glasses?
Cookie’s right, he doesn’t work there. He’s a student.
Sadly students don’t get payed to go to school
I’m not trying to be offensive but there are cases that have happened to me where some lazy students relied on me to do their work because I actually done work when subs were in
He tenido una experiencia asi 😂
Hi There Sir Principal Brandon! When I Was In Middle School You Had To Be In The 8th Grade To Be A Teachers Assistant! And When I Was In High School You Had To Be A Junior Or A Senior To Be A Teachers Assistant! Why Would That Be Sir Principal Brandon!?
They probably wanted to make sure students were mature enough.
Okay, maybe I'm overthinking this, and I understand that he is a faculty member, but wouldn't Mr. Weiner going into the girls bathroom, even if it's to rescue a student, be an issue?
Yes, unless someone is having a medical problem and there are no female staff members around.
Wouldn’t Moby Dick be a difficult book for middle schoolers?
What if it's unexpected need for sub like teacherz quits or gets arrested amd fired
This does happen, either a firing or the teacher has to move away suddenly for family reasons.
It's always 50 50 with subs
Yes! Lol
And Moze kinda got bad karma and deserved what she got for lying to subs and using Sweeney’s absence for fun
Moze didn’t know the substitutes report back to the regular teachers and the principal
Question do you think you can react to these other 2 Nickelodeon shows? Victorious and Henry Danger
Yes
@@SchoolPrincipalReacts thank you
Idk about you but o always got veggies thrown at me in middle school 😮
Can you react to the Drake and Josh episode “Mean Teacher”? Mrs Hayfer, the teacher who accuses Drake for stealing her car in a previous episode you reacted, is in it and I want see your input on the character
I will add it to the list. 👍
😅😅
Can You Do Please Do Arthur's Substitute Teacher Trouble For Me Please.
The one day sub is actually Brenda Song from Suite Life of Zack and Cody on Disney Channel
