Now, I just audio record my professor's lectures and write down whatever important parts they said. Or they record the class themselves and post it on Zoom.
That kids name is Martin Quirly. If you remember from the project partners episode they called him the “smart and squirrelly” kid. His name is a play on of that. Smart and squirrelly - Martin Quirly 🤣
The re-writing the notes was actually something I did during college! I have pretty messy hand writing so I found it easier to just chicken-scratch in class and clean up my notes later. I usually had messy handwritten notes and either a Quizlet deck or Cornell notes google doc.
1 more episode to go til you reach the vice principal episode. Next is Math, which introduces a new recurring character, a math teacher. Gordy also has his memorable yet crazy moments to look forward to. Always enjoy these reactions, gives me something to look forward to every week. This was always a laugh to watch growing up, especially the part where the mob chases Susie, or the caramel covered apples with nuts to celebrate a job well done
Is it possible that Gordy stealing Mr. Sweeney's caramel-covered apple with nuts and consequently causing Sweeney to spin like crazy in that harness could be considered as another potential firing?!
3:48 With the Nega-Chin in Ned's science notebook, that's the second time the Fairly OddParents have made a cameo in Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. The first was in the daydreaming episode where Cosmo and Wanda appear in Ned's Daydream to help him solve a science riddle in Mr. Sweeney's class. I guess Cosmo and Wanda have a thing for science class! Wonder if they're trying to see how it competes with their magic?
I was in high school between 2012 - 2018 about a decade after Ned's Declassified takes place (my middle school was in the same school as high school) even though most was done on laptops and computers in later years we still used notebooks especially in 2014 and 2015 where teachers would write information on the whiteboard and told us to copy them into our notebook word for word. Sometimes there was so much information to write. I always did find note taking useful for me because it would help me with my listening and so it could be easier to study. At 20:00 I actually would copy the notes word for word on a scrap piece of paper so I could comprehend them and understand the information better. Math and science were the hardest subjects for me. I wasn't an exceptional student, I was average. I wasn't an outstanding student. However I did get 3 diligent award certificates over 3 years. One was for English and Maths in 2014, one for Maths and Science in 2015 and one for English in 2016 and I would usually get good report cards with friendly comments from teachers. As several teachers knew I was still trying hard despite not passing every test.😀😀😃😃
18:37 - This is such an interesting fact I never would have thought about otherwise! Even though I went to public school for 12 years, the fact teachers were never in the same restrooms never crossed my mind. That's why I love videos like this.
7:41 EDTPA brings back memories of pain and suffering as a young student teacher for me... LOL Honestly, great connection with the video cameras in the classroom though.
1:29 There actually is a bit of a subplot where Mr. Monroe leaves to go live with penguins later in the show, and my theory is is that this was when the actor who plays him, Jim J Bullock, was being treated for his crystal meth addiction.
You mentioned how a notebook wouldn't be in the lost and found for 10 years. You forget that Moze didn't find that notebook in the lost and found she found it stuck behind a desk. That means it was obviously forgotten about and nobody knew about its existence for that long.
I remember in school, I always liked drawing in my notebook in school, also when I was in detention in highschool I had no choice to draw biology stuff, despite I had no homework to do, but if I didn't do anything in Detention, I would get suspended from highschool, which was messed up
Recording classes can be helpful, but Ned is right that writing notes is the best way to go. Because rewatching the class will definitely take took long. Having notes will keep you directly to the point. Plus, you can write them in ways that you can understand. Write keywords down.
Despite his somewhat sadistic personality, Mr. Sweeney, does actually care for his students. While he intended to 'trick students' he probably would've been right in assuming that Ned wouldn't have been as interested if he'd been direct on the matter.
Mr. Sweeney is a caricature of a strict teacher who is a stickler for the rules and takes learning seriously. Sometimes, they can seem intimidating to a student. That's why he's nicer to students who put in the effort to actually do well.
I like the twist in this one about the mystery notebook, I legit didn't see it coming when I first watched the episode, especially since Suzie was first built up as an antagonist. Not to mention Sweeny straight up Half-Blood Princeing us. The writers of this one must have been feeling really good.
A lot of TV shows and movies portray air-vents as big enough to crawl through (Recess also does this). In real life, that's rarely the case and trying to crawl through them would be very dangerous. Though you do raise a good theory about the large air-vents resulting from the walls constantly having to be repaired. Also, I'm surprised no one accused Cookie of writing the notebook. His real name is Simon Cook.
9:31 I’ll Amit i did a few times but I had 1 teacher literally give a tip to all students to “if your going to sleep make it look like your reading the textbook with your hands holding up your head above the book” hehe
I’m mildly narcoleptic, and had a really good way of resting my eyes in class. Whenever we were meant to be reading something on our desks, I would interlock my fingers and put them over my eyes like a sunshade, thumbs down either side like blinders. Then I’d just hunch over the book with my elbows supporting my little blinder. From the outside, I appear to be intently focused on the surface of the desk. Note to kids: don’t do this if you aren’t narcoleptic. I never fell asleep in class, I just couldn’t keep my eyes open.
For me, I have dysgraphia which is a disorder that makes it hard for me to write so I had a scribe take notes. I also had PowerPoint printed out so I could use those notes
One of the drawings in neds notebook was that of the nega-chin arch nemesis of the crimson chin a favorite superhero of the child protagonist of the fairly oddparents which as has been discussed already gordys actor was a voice actor in the crimson chin himself was voiced by jay leno
Some student from 10 years ago probably left the notebook somewhere really obscure and a janitor or someone only found it recently and put it in the list and found.
Sweeney may not have the best bedside manner, but he does seem to genuinely have the students' best interest in mind. I'm also guilty of having bad handwriting that is reflected in my notes, it's usually because whenever I'm taking notes on the lecture, I'm going fast to try to keep up with what the teacher is saying and my writing looks a lot better when I write slowly, so it's also good that we have the material in the books and online resources to help study when the notes are a bit hard to look at. I also remember one class where I was struggling in, so I tried recording the lectures myself to see if that would help. There's also times where I would ask a classmate to see their notes, if I needed it.
All the notebooks in this episode were pads of paper, we weren't allowed to use them as notebooks. It had to be a bound booklet. And there were rules about what color the protective cover had to be. Because of moving, I went to different schools, but three subjects were always the same: math is blue, German is red and English is yellow. A few teachers then collected the notebooks and graded them. From the ninth grade onwards we were allowed to do it as we wanted. From then on most people started using these blocks. But no one left it on the block. The sheet was then removed and filed in a folder. And out of habit we even kept the colors the same. Another suggestion to respond to: Avatar the Last Airbender. About the teachers using the student bathrooms...I have actually seen them use the student bathrooms before, though it was probably out of desperation. I almost never used a school bathroom willingly. One school I went to had a locked portion inside the student bathroom that I'm assuming led to a teachers/staff only bathroom

Since it was a vocational school the high school students from 5 different schools would visit.
