Thank you for taking the time to post this! We have an old pool and the liners been patched over a few times, I think my husband and I are going to give this a try...it may result in divorce though! lol
Nice vid, Thinking about doing this in the spring. Would have liked to have seen your work around the skimmer up close. Also, I need to find out what to do if you have a bottom drain and a pool light. But this was very helpful, thanks.
Great video! Thank you for making it. We have to change our pool liner and have been getting quotes that seem ridiculous to me for something we could do ourselves.
I have a drain in my inground pool - guess if ever I have problems with the drain piping I will go to a no drain pool - did not know that you could have an inground pool without a drain.
There is always that female family unit that will see that one wrinkle and remind you and your guests for the next 7 years that there is a wrinkle in the pool !!!
Your pool is exactly like mine.what are your measurements...and we're did you get your liner..I have to endure this this spring...your the first video I seen that installed All by yourself..I must say absolutely fine job..any tips would greatly appreciate
Great video, you made it work out much easier than I would have thought. How much did you pay for the liner, and how long before your old one looked bad?
Nice video bud! I'm looking to replace my liner this summer or next. Where did you get your liner? If you don't mind how much did that liner run ya? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I purchased the liner from Doheny's Pool Supplies. I bought a closeout pattern so it was discounted down to about $900. I always assumed closeout patterns would be ugly but thats not the case (as you can see in the video). When you contact them they will give you a form to fill-out with the pool dimensions. Just take very good measurements and you should have no problems. Enjoy!
Current pool had them. Along with tears and holes. When I tore out the old liner a lot of the sand had caved in. It’s pretty simple to fix, it’s getting to it and putting in a new liner that sucks. Just get it nice and wet so it’s almost like cement and use a trowel to flatten out
Does your pool have stairs? Also, it’s interesting that you don’t have a bottom drain. But I was getting a pool made I was told I had to have a bottom drain.
It likely varies state by state, but I cannot have a drain nor a return on the bottom of the pool because of the suction that might cause someone to get trapped at the bottom.
Dwayne Walker just set it in the shallow end, they're usually marked deep and shallow also on the back of the liner, the break points are marked with arrows or a BP. Lock the break points (where shallow transitions to deep) in 1st, then work in all of the shallow in starting with the corners. Next, lock in the center of the deep end (also usually marked), then work the rest of the liner in. If you get the corners, you can work whatever slack you have in without much of a problem.
RUclipsaholic2 I did mine by myself. 20x40. The only place I had help was in placing the bead. It's nice to have someone hold the other corner to get it started. I saved my water by pumping it into an above ground pool I bought for that purpose. Then pumped it back when I was done. Saved me 2000$ in water.
My pool was 20x40 and 8 ft deep. I think I calculated 25,000 gallons?? They were going to charge me 300$ per truckload of water. I calculated 7 truckloads. I think it was 3000 gallons per truckload. I could supplement a few thousand gallons from my well. I'm on well water. The problem with a well is you can burn out a pump and that costs 2000$. How do I know this? Because my renters burned out the pump filling the pool in the spring when I was out of town. The level had dropped a foot over the winter because of various leaks. Now when the winter is over I don't need to add a drop. My level is high enough to allow me to vacuum to waste. So the temporary pools saved me some money on storage. I also am on a septic system so the water would have gone over the hill. I highly recommend the above ground pool as a temporary reservoir if you have well water. I set it up myself in a few hours. You need a level space about 40 feet square.
beach side 1-2 days with a garden hose, but turn it off during the night because water pressure is higher due to less people using water that late... believe me, you don't want to overfill your pool.
+soundiscomforting This is definitely cheaper than tiling a pool, but I wouldn't have been able to simply switch from vinyl to tile. You have to stick with the pool that you have since the concrete, tile, vinyl, and fiberglass are all constructed differently. Typical vinyl liners last about 10-15 years, and the one I removed was 10 years old with a very slow leak.
Mike Clark they can handle the frost line, vinyl liner pools are just way cheaper to install and repair. They even install fiberglass and cement pools in Minnesota where I currently live.
My pool bottom is vermiculite. It is porous. If the pool gets a leak in the vinyl the water needs someplace to go. So no cement. It feels like cement once the pool is full. .
lcagee the vermiculite bottoms have cement mixed in also, thats what makes them firm and the vermiculite makes them porous. It's also in case you get ground water, the weight of the water in the pool can push the water through the vermiculite/cement bottom without floating your liner.
Just two comments: If you used at least 2 vacs, the liner would have pulled tighter to the walls and you would have been able to get rid of those wrinkles totally. Filling the pool with the garden hose that way will drastically shorten the life of the liner. The sun's rays breaks down the polymer in the vinyl and the liner will last about 10 to 12 years if you are lucky. Trucking in the water and filling the pool quickly, will add about 4 to 6 years more to the life of the liner. Just saying.
Rick Tanguay completely false. I am a swimming pool installer. Makes zero difference if filling from hose or from a truck. Only time a truck is absolutely necessary is with a ground water issue. 16x32 Should take 2 days to fill with hose. Fit of the liner can reduce years off liners but not the rate they are filled.
Buddy it hurts my feelings to see you doing this alone, though you did a fantastic job!!If Inlived bear you I certainly would’ve helped you!!
Thank you for taking the time to post this! We have an old pool and the liners been patched over a few times, I think my husband and I are going to give this a try...it may result in divorce though! lol
Deb Ouellette it's pretty easy, depending on how many cut outs you have to do.
Great job, just ordered my new liner and no way I can do all that myself 🤓
Great! I'm doing a liner on my own and nice to see you did this yourself.

Rockin Yankee if you figure it out let me know!

Tip. screw driver bits put in drill backwards works great for screwing up/down cover anchors.
Awesome, you gave hope to change mine. I am motivated now that I can do it. Thank you.
Nice job. Although I think I would have spent the few extra bucks for chemicals so that when I did this in the spring, it wasn't such a slimy mess.
I've just removed my old liner, am measuring, will be doing this annoying job in a few weeks!
Perfect vid, watching the dog run around was really fun too.
I have a drain in my inground pool - guess if ever I have problems with the drain piping I will go to a no drain pool - did not know that you could have an inground pool without a drain.
Depends on your county pool requirements.
There is always that female family unit that will see that one wrinkle and remind you and your guests for the next 7 years that there is a wrinkle in the pool !!!
Hi, did you use a wall foam between the liner? Is the foam required for vinyl pools or just an option?
I saw video it hard work done nice job I have similar pool may be need replace a liner how do I measure ?where can I order it please recommend me one

Where did all the original water go? Pumped into your yard?
Thanks for this!
Great video, you made it work out much easier than I would have thought. How much did you pay for the liner, and how long before your old one looked bad?
+Mari Miller i paid just over $1000 for the new liner and my old liner was about 12 years old.
sad no one helped you, good job!
Did those wrinkles come out? We never start filling water until all the wrinkles are gone in those spots cause they never do come out

Hey did you have to fix the bottom base if you did what material did you used. Love the color of the liner
The bottom was sand, and it has to be smoothed out or there will be depressions on the liner floor.
How long can a pool be without liner while new one gets made? And should rain water be pumped out?
Geez ! Can i get some help around here???
How did you measure for your new liner??
how thick (dept) is that sand, I am looking to build a pool
Do you ever get sand bulges behind your liner? I have several and they're growing, getting quite concerning!
Current pool had them. Along with tears and holes. When I tore out the old liner a lot of the sand had caved in. It’s pretty simple to fix, it’s getting to it and putting in a new liner that sucks. Just get it nice and wet so it’s almost like cement and use a trowel to flatten out
how long does one of these liners last?
ours lasted 20 years
Does your pool have stairs? Also, it’s interesting that you don’t have a bottom drain. But I was getting a pool made I was told I had to have a bottom drain.
It likely varies state by state, but I cannot have a drain nor a return on the bottom of the pool because of the suction that might cause someone to get trapped at the bottom.
Yes many intestines have been sucked out that’s why regulations now require two drains on the bottom so no chance of getting stuck on a drain suction.
Great video but one of the most important parts I wanted to see is how you spread the liner out.
Dwayne Walker just set it in the shallow end, they're usually marked deep and shallow also on the back of the liner, the break points are marked with arrows or a BP. Lock the break points (where shallow transitions to deep) in 1st, then work in all of the shallow in starting with the corners. kcull thank you my friend :)
Dwayne Walker no problem
Hi, what kind of sand to you use for the floor, i am looking to remove the liner and prep my floor and have someone install a new one. Thanks!
Sorry, I don’t know. I just used the sand that was already there and smoothed it out.
Use mason sand
Myth busted, one person can change a liner on their own.

I saved my water by pumping it into an above ground pool I bought for that purpose. Then pumped it back when I was done. Saved me 2000$ in water.

What size is the pool and who is the manufacturer?
Is there a tool required to insert the edges of liner into the groove?
No tools necessary. It just fits into the groove.
How long did it take to install the liner and how long to fill it using your garden hose? How deep is the deep end is the pool 3ft to 5 feet?

Hi , how much is the vinyl if you don’t mine? Thanks
We're got your liner
Is there a bottom drain and skimmer? You didn't show cutting and sealing them. That's the hard part.
Doesnt have a bottom drain and the skimmer is at the top .....I have the same type and size.
How old was the previous liner?
12 years
How deep is the pool
Is it cheaper to do this than to tile the pool? How often do you need to change the liner? Thanks

because in eastern states that is how we put pools in. fiberglass and tile and concrete cannot handle our frost line.

Where's a good place to buy these liners?
I got mine online from Doheney’s.
Where did you buy the kit from?
It’s not really a kit, I just measured the pool and gave the dimensions when I ordered the liner. I ordered it from Doheney’s Pool Supply.
I'm guessing that people in the Mid-West don't go skinny dipping...
where do you purchase your Pool vinyl?
doheny's pool supply
Watching this proves I have watched the internet.
Drain the swamp
How deep is the deep end
Approximately 8 ft.
My question is why you have a sand bottom, instead of a cement bottom?
That’s typical for the northeast USA (freeze/thaw) conditions, but it’s also a benefit because it’s softer on your feet.
ANOTHER reason I would never live north of Virginia, but I said I would never live north of I-40 being from Louisiana.
it's just sand? is there not cement under the sand?

Screw that, I rather pay someone else to do it, that way if they rip the liner they pay for it..
xTrmVelocity thats always my mentality because im lazy and so are you
you realise it costs just as much to get someone to do it as the price of the liner
