    Welcome to the SEC guys. Finebaum tends to give credit with one hand only to take it back with the other. I wouldn't dwell on it. FTR, OU is a great program and will be a tough out for many teams in the SEC, regardless of what PF says - this year AND going forward. They could in fact equal or exceed Texas' final SEC record in '24. To a life-long SEC fan listening to all the big talk coming out of Austin, there's a strong whiff of the blowhard/braggart about UT west that may get them punched in the mouth a time two that people didn't see coming. That would be too bad.

      Ahh, thanks for the welcome! Just get ready for the Texas hype train EVERY year. It was a consistent thing for the media the hype them up as a top 10 or even 5 team year in and year out for them to end up going 8-4 or worse

      It is interesting to note the contrasting perceptions of Texas and Oklahoma when they were in the Big 12 and their current standing in the SEC. Previously seen as weaker teams, they have now gained prominence, with Texas ranked second before their first game. Similarly, Oklahoma's position in the middle of the pack presents an opportunity for overachievement and building momentum. Based on these observations, I project that Oklahoma will likely secure 10 wins.#BOOMERSOONER

      @@claypennington602 Yeah, they don't exactly hide their little light under a bushel basket. Unfortunately for UT west, the SEC has a history of shutting loudmouths down. There is a reason why old school SEC fans respect OU (success in the modern era without the bragging) while many view Texas as a bit of a dime store cowboy with a lot to prove.

    • @tomgore9696

      @@Thewritersforum I don't honestly know enough about the OU squad vs the SEC teams they will play to go out on a limb and say they will or won't win X number of games in '24. But I do believe that their modern track record, plus the way UT acts a fool at every opportunity, gives them an advantage that some people may not recognize. Frankly, SEC fans don't detest the way OU has entered into the brotherhood. Texas came in like a drunken frat boy with a rich daddy and a very bad attitude. I've heard that's nothing new.

    With the transfer portal I think being able to predict which team is going to be playing at a high level is harder to guess more than ever. TCU as an example. They were full with older transfers and what happened? So I’m sure there are going to be SEC teams rise because of that and some that may not meet expectations. It’s just hard to know year to year what some programs, who utilize the portal more than others, are going to be good and who it doesn’t work out for.

    What “limitations” did DG have? I disagree. Good segment.👏🏿

    • @FragranceGlitch
      @FragranceGlitch 2 месяца назад

      Deep ball, arm strength, being able to get the ball into the middle of the field on crossing routes (when Lebby would actually do that.) There are plenty of limitations on DG. Having said that, he was my guy and he won a lot of games for us and he was amazing during his time here. He will be missed.

    Excellent point- not alot of great defenses on our schedule cept bama….all the big games tho-maybe perfect for jackson arnold heisman run? If defense is holding teams under 20…and we are scoring plus 30- thats alot of wins

      Good luck holding vols, texass, ole miss, mizzou, bama and LSU. They all hit for upwards of 32 PPG last year. Good luck getting that 30+ per game scoring. texass, bama, vols, mizzou, ole miss and aub held opponents under 23 PPG.
      How bout we let jackson WIN a game as a STARTING QB before we award him the heisman?

    as a long time sooner fan, OU’s defenses were bulit under LR to deal with the high powered offenses in the big 12 ! That model did not hold up in the play offs as we know ! OU has now built a defense to help the offense in what we think the SEC will present But we don’t know !! The week to week pounding in the SEC is the only demon OU has to fear, not any single team

    Loved Gabriel but Arnold will eventually surpass him as he just has a stronger arm, better deep ball period. Arnold just has to get comfortable and that only comes with game reps.

  • @robertadams8548

    My opinion is, Gabriel was a Good pick-up to get OU by. His Limitations reflected on the Whole Offense. Lebby called plays that at times weren't his strength. Lebby held the offense back for him because he was Lebby's Pick. Gabriel also had no backup. He played well but wasn't pushed. Jackson has a Backup that will push him. With the right bounce of the Ball OU could have a Playoff season, but Big Boy league takes no Prisoners.

    Oklahoma has a far better defense than anytime during the Lincoln Riley era. I know on the offense there are many unknowns but in evaluating the talent, the offensive coaching, and the potential blended (Air Raid and the Baylor System) scheme) Oklahoma may have a record breaking season because the offensive line has talent and just needs the experience.

    Finebaum was all jacked up about OU when he was here in July. But he is weak reed, he blows back and forth like a weed in a stiff wind. He has no expertise or wisdom in his "takes." He is just an old sports writer who got a job banging pots and pans for Alabama. Hang around long enough and they make you a "dean" of sportwriters. That title always eluded me on what the hell it means. At this juncture, "analysts" have as much reliability as a racing form to figure your bets on for the horse races.
