We misspoke about the IR emitter. It's meant to blast a signal out to compatible devices like set-top boxes, soundbars, receivers, etc. This lets you voice control them all through Alexa so you can do a number of tasks hands-free like changing volume, power on/off, or set up full routines so a single voice command turns on the entire home theater system.

My parents just bought 4 of these. 2 big ones and 2 middle sized. 75" and 55". The main reason is that they just bought a new house, my dad is slowly converting the entire thing into a smart house via Alexa. That's one of those Amazon specific features that you were talking about. He has smart switches/outlets/lightbulbs in nearly every room that can turn on and off via Alexa voice control. Also, he has a smart doorknob on the utility room since it is outside, it also reports to Alexa. Combined with his 2 ring doorbells and the security cameras that he's going to set up, he's going to have full view and control of the exterior of his house and full control on the interior as well. Another thing he did was run full home ethernet to each room in the house. All of the TVs are on it as well as his office equipment and all of his security cameras as well. They are power-over-ethernet. Needless to say, it is pretty cool to walk around the house and tell Alexa to do things.

The problem is a lot of people either aren't objective in their reviewing (like in games, acknowledging problems is something most don't do), or they just don't have the background/technical knowledge to be accurate in a review. There's nothing WRONG with liking something, if you haven't seen or had anything better. A "small" note on that privacy part with the microphone kill switch at 11:25 :
If a "physical switch" creates a software-popup, it ist most likely NOT a physical switch. Instead, it is likely just a slideable soft-button. The state of the button is read by the software, which then can act differently depending on the state of that switch. So you are still relying on the software not to spy on you, once you flip that switch.
But once you buy a TV from Amazon, you are pretty much lost anyway in that regard.

    • @tylobedo

@@brycedunlap That's why I just use a home theater pc and a projector. The only real downside is the latency when it comes to gaming, but other than that I find that a decent projector ticks most of the boxes I would want out of a nice big screen.
Since I do most of my gaming on a gaming PC in another room anyways, I don't have many latency issues to worry about, but gaming with a projector you notice the stacked input lag of controllers, the projector, and the game; which all might be minor on their own, but are fairly noticeable on things like fighting games.

To these companies we're all just labrat monkeys with money. We give them money for a product then they make us run the hamster wheel to sell that data off to the highest bidder if you ever choose to connect it to the internet and not block telemetry. It's a sad state of affairs.

My family had an Amazon Fire TV. They're terrible. After a power outage, or turning on in a long time, the TV would take almost an entire minute to turn on. And once it finally did, it would immediately show you all the Amazon apps and features... You know, instead of automatically switching to the one and only input that you have plugged-in.
There were a bunch of other issues, too, like not being able to use your TV if your remote needed to be updated, and the fact that the picture adjust settings were buried through several different menus - And then partly covered the screen so you can't even see the adjustments you're making.

One thing I would love tv reviews to include (and this goes for ANYBODY reviewing a tv) is if you can set the tv to turn on and go right to an input or to go to the last input. I do not want a TV where I have to select an option on the TV's remote before I transition to the remote for the device I want to use (Cable box, Fire Stick, Xbox, etc....). This would also be good for people like me who use HDMI switchers because we have too many devices hooked up. My current TV has my sound bar on HDMI1 and on HDMI 2 is the switch with three consoles, BluRay player, wireless HDMI adapter and Fire Cube so I have no interest in ever touching the TV's remote unless it is to change a menu option.

Every TV I ever owned started really quickly, like 'if they had had splash screens (they didn't) you wouldn't have had time to see them'' quickly, but my mother's current one has a noticeable delay before the brand splash screen comes up, and takes most of a minute between hitting the power button and actually showing whatever input it's getting. @@sejpuV well i have a very cheap 55inch model for 300 bucks from black friday 2020.
It's a typical cheap screen, colors are nothing to compare to a proper OLED display. But I don't feel like I wasted my money.
I got a BIG SCREEN with inbuilt FireTV that's very light-weight (so perfectly wall mounted) that is not bright (which is a requirement for the bedroom). Because as awesome as my OLED is, my GF would get blinded on bright scenes in a dark bedroom.
Like Linus said, however, there might be more quality screens out there for a similar price - this, however, requires a lot of knowledge and finding those things isn't something that just "anyone" (outside of the tech industry) can easily find.

Although I don't have the testing skills or tools that LTT does, I have been very impressed with the colors and performance, basically unbeatable for the price. I think the most absurd statement made in this video is that a Kirkland branded gaming pc or monitor could exist and somehow be worse than this. Well for one, Kirkland would probably be a rebrand of a popular company or based off of an already popular brand like LG or HP rather than some (mostly) unknown company. And secondly, wouldn't they be directly competing against themselves(Costco) off of already low prices they set themselves rather than trying to set a new low benchmark standard like amazon is doing with this TV?

    • @HydraulicDesign
      @HydraulicDesign 3 года назад

There's no difference between what Costco does with Kirkland and what AmazonBasics does, other than Kirkland has a better quality reputation. The point of house brands is not just to try to leverage the intelligence from what they sell to try to capture more of that profit, it's to expand the market by offering different(lower) price points.
Costco doesn't actually have particularly great deals on PCs, most of the time. Not in Canada anyway.

I disagree with there being ANY reason to buy it for personal use.
Most TV's that you referenced like the Vizio MQ6 are on sale, even the MQ7 is on sale for $100 less than the Amazon TV and it's just an outright better TV that has better software, better features, more dynamic coloring, and better response times. Even Samsung has their Crystal UHD TV line up that's a bit cheaper and performs better than it in both software and color dynamics.
Some of the software features are nice for enterprise or office use, like the ability to join zoom calls in it. Throw one of these in a conference room once they're fully supported and they're quite competitive given it's feature set not being too high or too low. For normal every day use though, just stick with Vizio, Samsung, LG, or TCL.

I bought the Omni series 55 recently, and I'm very happy with it. It was on sale for black Friday, and I also have an amazon visa card. Throw in $100 worth of reward points and gift card dollars from a return... and I ended up spending only $500 for the TV, a wall mount, a drill, a wall shelf and brackets. And then after using the drill, and changing my mind about the wall shelf and brackets, I got $70 back. So, on top of only spending $440 for the TV and a very nice wall mount. I also, get to spread those payments out over 18 months.
So, while there were better TVs, this one felt almost free. If it keeps me in the house a few Saturdays in the next year it will have already paid for itself. My only issue with the set so far is that I can't really get my echo speakers to couple with it for surround sound the way I can in the living room using the Fire TV cube.
