James Bond star George Lazenby pays tribute to Sean Connery on his 90th birthday: georgelazenbyofficial Happy 90th birthday to the all time greatest @007 - Sean Connery. Sean, for me, was always the man. I walked in his footsteps - I had to look and dress like Sean Connery - I went to his barber's and tailors. I had no fear when I went up for the role - he was the guy who inspired me to never hesitate. Another thing we have in common is that we're both family men, so best wishes to Lady Connery, your kids and grand kids and stay safe. Love George x
I like the part where he was dressed in that Scottish Kilt getup and at the dinner table and that girl was running her hand up his Kilt to mark her room number with her lipstick and when you see the dormant expression on his face, Irma Bunt says "Is anything the matter Mr. Hillary?" then he responds with "Just a slight stiffness coming on" lol
GL looked and played a majestic performance throughout. OHMSS had everything, including the great D Rigg, AND the greatest J Barry Film score with no less than L Armstrong. The best actors, the best locations and the best wardrobe, even kilts! And it had love. What more could you want?.
OHMSS is my fav Bond movie, and I thought Lazenby was terrific in it. He was the perfect mix of toughness, sophistication, and vulnerably. A shame he didn’t do more and let Cubby Broccoli and Harry Saltzman work with him and refine his Bond. He probably would have been the best Bond had he kept going.
Would have liked to see him do another one. I've heard so many stories. Reportedly he turned down a seven picture deal. Reportedly they didn't want him to do another one. I guess we'll never know.
I remember this actor I was in love with Diana Rigg and I thought 🤔 it wasn't fair that George Lazenby was very good looking it wasn't fair i was so jealous of him i was a little boy I am mow 58 years old I still watch this movie 🍿 to this very day
Interesting that here he claimed he had no regrets leaving the role of Bond. At other times he’s said it was a mistake. Clearly he’s of two minds concerning James Bond. Given time, he could’ve made the role his own, but bad advise and his desire to fit into the counter culture made it impossible. Still, he’s maintained a somewhat below-the-radar career for all these years, which is admirable considering he seems to have disdain for the entire acting profession…
Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Man With The Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, Never Say Never Again-those are the epic Bond films.
I love OHMSS, and I think he was a good Bond, but it is well documented that he was such a pain in the ass to work with he was *not* asked to come back.
They should have cast George Lazenby in For Your Eyes Only. In the opening sequence of this great film James Bond visits his wife's grave and poignantly places flowers on her grave. This would have been a great reintroduction for George Lazenby and would have worked as a sequel to On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I feel that For Your Eyes Only is a classic Bond film and one of the best but it had the misfortune to go up against Raiders Of The Lost Ark and came off second best.
Padraig Hoxey George Lazenby was originally offered a 7 picture deal but he turned it down himself and officially resigned from playing James Bond during filming of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
Hess didn’t return as Bond because he wasn’t asked to. He apparently acted like a Diva on set, and made the production a living hell for all concerned.
Definitely one of the best Bond films. A great performance by George. Great direction by Peter Hunt and wonderful song 'All The Time In The World" by Louis Armstrong (his last). Connery should have done OHMSS as his swan song and Lazenby should have done Diamonds are Forever and Live and Let Die.
Lazenby is a relatively young, vulnerable and infinite Bond like ''Casino Royale'' without the final scene. Bond in O.H.M.S.S. in the book, in the sixth film and like the actors in the other roles, is a mature man with experience. Director Peter Hunt did a great job, but the direction is like a romantic movie, not a Bond film. Also i can't ignore that Bond and Blofeld have met in the previous film, and in this film doesn't know each other. As you say Connery should have done O.H.M.S.S. After him i believe in Stanley Baker. ''Diamonds are Forever'' would be a revenge film, if Connery was playing at O.H.M.S.S. or Lazenby at D.A.F. (now is a follow-up of ''You Only Live Twice''). In the era of comedy and parody Roger Moore was the right man at the right time (except ''A View to a Kill''). I can imagine Connery in ''Live and Let Die'' (the producers had wanted Connery to return after D.A.F. Wikipedia), if the film was made in 1972 to celebrate the ten years of the first Bond film.
@@ΜακηςΛ-ε5ρ Wow. You hit the nail on the head. I've always thought that Stanley Baker would have made an excellent Bond. (Interestingly, it was Stanley who cast Connery in his production of 'Hell Drivers'). But another keen observation you made is, Lazenby does remind one of the James Bond from the novel, 'Casino Royale'.
"This never happened to the other fellow" lends credence to the theory that James Bond is a codename handed down to each 007 and each Bond is in fact a different person. While all of them are still with us, they should do a special feature with all of them meeting up just for fun.
+Lord Funface The Atomic Toaster That is exactly what I was thinking, that James Bond was just a fake name for the 007 agents. I think it would be a fun and yet moving thing for a movie to be made with all the James Bonds and they are giving advice to a new agent on how to do/or not do the job and maybe even say something about the death of Tracy that occurred with the one who got married.
OHMSS was the best film of the franchise. I don't know if it had been that good with Sean Connery. Incidentally, Connery (IMHO the best Bond) never played James Bond in any film with action in a snowy setting. With Connery it was always sun and/or tropics, I can't really imagine him performing ski stunts or any bobsled action.
I remember when OHMMSS was released & the comparisons with Sean Connery were mainly negative but looking at the films now George would have gradually become Sean's equal & been accepted as 007.
I've read on the site LAZENBYLAND that Lazenby couldn't stand the draconian restrictions on his personal life written into his contract, and that probably had a lot to do with his leaving (And who could blame him?). My Mother took me to see OHMSS when it came out, and somehow it escaped me that this was a new Bond. I thought I was watching Connery(Not having seen a Connery film). I only realized it was Lazenby a few years later.
George Lazenby should have done another two or three more Bond films. O.H.M.S.S. is one of the best Bond films ever and gave the character a Vulnerable side, I really wish he'd done Diamonds are Forever, I think it would have been a better film altogether, no disrespect to Sean, however, but he seemed bored, as he was with the whole Bond franchise.
Lazenby was to me the best James Bond - to me he represented the character perfectly. Sean Connery is Sean Connery and Moore, Dalton and Craig don't feel right to me.
I guess Lazenby's reasoning makes some sense. An actor today would never turn down an offer to play Bond again if they'd already completed one film. But back then, they had no idea Bond films would be around for 50 years! Still, it would be pretty hard to turn down a million bucks. There's probably lots of guys around the world today who are much like Lazenby. They've got little or no acting experience, but look the part. However, unlike Lazenby they'd probably be happy with the million bucks or even a tenth of that.
+Harold Platypus ..............true but Lazenby's asshole of a manager kept telling Lazenby to ask for more money.....until it got to the point where the producers just gave up with him!
+scrmepal Yep, you've got to wonder who Lazenby's agent was and whether or not they went on to have a successful career. Even though Lazenby made some bad acting career decisions, apparently he got into real estate and made a shit ton of cash. Perhaps in the long run he made the right choice....he's an extremely wealthy man, but not famous enough to be harassed every two seconds on the street by annoying fans.

georgelazenbyofficial
Happy 90th birthday to the all time greatest @007 - Sean Connery.
Greatest Cult movie, of the Bond Franchise!!
Cool dude!
Peter Hunt doesn't get enough credit for the brilliant job he did directing On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
Damn good flick and 50 years old now too
George Lazenby: the best James Bond, in the best Bond film of all! And a unique character in his own right!
As others have stated here, I also think this is the best Bond of all.
Would have liked to see him do another one. I've heard so many stories. Reportedly he turned down a seven picture deal. Reportedly they didn't want him to do another one. I guess we'll never know.
Boy ! That fellow could have done 7-8 more film and been a mega 🌟 .. funny how things pan out . Best bond film in my eyes .
Mr. Lazenby is just pure natural talent. He sounds american now.
ristomatti kolsi he’s been living in LA
@@JamesBondCanada That explanes it. Thanks.
ristomatti kolsi no prob. He was just on the 50th anniversary tour with us in Portugal and Switzerland. Lots of videos on our channel with george. 🍸
Spot-on!
Truly a Great Guy!
My favourite bond film
His movie was great
He may not have done stuff after OHSS, but he got to be Bond. After Connery no less.
Yes
Sean Connery I imagine him in On Her Majesty's Secret Service all the time.
This didnt happen to the other fellow
I remember this actor
I was in love with Diana Rigg and I thought 🤔 it wasn't fair that George Lazenby was very good looking it wasn't fair i was so jealous of him i was a little boy I am mow 58 years old I still watch this movie 🍿 to this very day
Tried to watch this just this Sunday, ended up putting on Austin Powers and The Spy Who Shagged Me instead, much more fun!
This never happened to the other fella...He deserved an Oscar only for this Line
This shows that Connery is still Bond for everyone. Lazenby didn't say ''This never happened to the other movies''.
"This never happened to the other fellow"!.
Oh por Dios como nos pasan los años nos aplastan a todos Ricardo alegría zambrano Popayan colombia feliz año 2020
i don't care what people say, his Bond and movie are one of my favorites in the series.
this was one of my faveorite bond movies he was great as james bond
My favourite Bond....my favourite film
He's a great guy and I loved OHMSS.
I love OHMSS, and I think he was a good Bond, but it is well documented that he was such a pain in the ass to work with he was *not* asked to come back.
So all the talk about his agent telling him JB was finished is just him saving face? Interesting.
This was actually a really good movie.
Padraig Hoxey George Lazenby was originally offered a 7 picture deal but he turned it down himself and officially resigned from playing James Bond during filming of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
yes the actress was hot in it also.Lazenby coming back would have been intense.
Lazenby appeared briefly as a Confederate general in the film "Gettysburgh".
He was very charming.
Same here. OHMSS is a fantastic movie.
the best
***** Well, that's me told. Good and proper.
Its just a wink to the audience. No evidence what so ever hat its a code name.
***** Chill out old bean, I'm not a pretentious fanboy.
Old bean? Is that you fellows in Toaster call each other?
One of the best Bond movies. A pitty he didn't made more Bond movies.
It's a Shame that George lazenby didn't continue on as James Bond
Well done!
He did a great job considering he had never acted before. He should have came back for Diamonds Are Forever.
SEAN CONNERY IS JAMES BOND !!!
He's kicking himself in the arse 4 not doing more Bond films....
I remember when OHMMSS was released & the comparisons with Sean Connery were mainly negative but looking at the films now George would have gradually become Sean's equal & been accepted as 007.
OHMSS is an incredible film and Lazenby was one of the best Bond's. David Picker was so wrong.
this never happened to the other fella.
He was good in The Man From Hong Kong as the villain.
anyone else notice a good bit of American in his accent?
Best Bondfilm ever.
Is anyone knowing who is the interviewer
This was one of the most important and depressing Bond films. AWESOME score composed and conducted by John Barry.
Lazenby was to me the best James Bond - to me he represented the character perfectly. Sean Connery is Sean Connery and Moore, Dalton and Craig don't feel right to me.
You sir are not a James Bond fan! I can only agree with you about Craig, he's a complete unbearable bore!
i think of all the bonds Lazenby brought the humanity of bond.everone else was playing this hero image,Lazenby just became bond.
