Go to the etsy website, there are many companies selling nice fresh loose green tea, different kinds! Something you will never find in any store. Loose tea is way better then tea in bags. Cause in tea bags that's mostly the left overs, the best quality is loose tea.
How do you filter out a powder? It is going to run through the holes of a teapot. Leaves (with some powder) or granules are better. I like Lipton tea with small amount of citrus peels, because green tea alone lacks flavor.
Really helpful and informative video. Was sad to find that the Pure Leaf and the Ito En iced green teas were weak in EGCG. I drink a lot of both of those. I recently discovered that I have developed kidney stones. Is there any correlation between drinking green tea (even teas weak in EGCG) and kidney stones? From what I've been able to find it seems to actually help prevent them. But my doctor said that green teas can cause them just like black teas.
I've been drinking 3 quarts of iced green tea a day for a few years. I cold brew it at least 6 hours in the refrigerator, never with hot water. Cold brewing doubles the catechins and halves the tannins and caffeine. No bitterness, no Sweetener needed.
Sharon - Sorry to tell you, but that is a dangerous thing to be doing. There have been reported cases of others who have done that and developed fluorosis, i.e., getting too much flouride (naturally in green tea), causing brittle teeth and bones. You can read about these cases in the Concerns and Cautions section of our Green Tea Review at www.consumerlab.com/answers/should-i-worry-about-getting-too-much-fluoride-from-drinking-tea/fluoride-in-tea/. Consider switching to water.
About half of the coal burned in the world is burned in China, and Chinese coal is about 1,000 times higher in lead than American coal. Why does this matter in a discussion about green tea? Because most of the green tea sold worldwide comes from China and research strongly suggests that in terms of lead, it’s where it’s grown that is most important.
Fukushima. Are you testing for radiation contamination? I've lived in Japan for years. It's the elephant in the room no one wants to talk about, but it is a real concern. Japan is still incinerating radioactive contaminated rubble, which goes into the world's air current. I love green tea and drank a lot before Fukushima. Now I'm more cautious. Look into it.
Saw the numerous brands in your infomercial and was curious if this is posted somewhere as which one is better or best etc.. similar to your ratings/rankings of the bone broth recently published...? Is there something like this in your "PICKS" section..?
Hi Kelly - Our ratings of green tea products are found in our Green Tea Review at www.consumerlab.com/reviews/-/Green_Tea/. It includes our Top Picks in each category, such at tea bags, matcha, bottled tea, and supplements.
So would 3 tea bags in a 32 ounce cold brewed Water bottle be to much? I drink it on an empty stomach in the morning on my Commute, but then I drink water the rest of the day
Benefits are associated with drinking 2 to 4 cups per day. You may not want to exceed that, as too much green tea can give you too much fluoride. Substitute the rest with water.
I saw one report that listed Itoen as having very little EGCG. I’ve been drinking that brand for years and I really hope that report isn’t accurate. Itoen is very popular in Japan.
Ito En is among the bottled green teas that we tested. The results for it and other products are in our report at www.consumerlab.com/reviews/Green_Tea_Review_Matcha_Supplements_and_Bottled/Green_Tea/. The amount of EGCG per suggested serving (8 fl oz) was, as you note, relatively low.
Ito En also makes matcha tea that has not been processed like the bottled version. Making your own fresh green tea has the health benefits whereas the more processed products have little to none. I use several brands of matcha green tea that is just the tea powder, NO SUGAR OR OTHER INGREDIENTS ADDED, and drink 1 to 3 cups per day. It has helped me avoid colds and flu viruses and I feel more alert (not jittery like with coffee). Hope this helps. :) Here is a link to the Ito En matcha tea: www.amazon.com/Matcha-Love-Ceremonial-Canister-Antioxidant/dp/B01ESBOJ7G/ref=sr_1_7_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1540312327&sr=1-7&keywords=matcha%2Blove%2Btea%2Bpowder&th=1 It's also available in an organic version but costs a bit more.
I have been buying brewed/bags lately. It's cheaper and looks like it's much better. Has more EGCG and Catechins. I was surprised to see how well Lipton rated.
Matcha tea powder has 10 times the EGCG and catechins of tea that is brewed from teabags, because you are consuming the entire leaf rather than just discarding the tea leaves after steeping. There are many brands now that have a matcha blend with whole leaves in tea bags or sachets that are cheaper than buying the tea powder. I would think that they offer a bit more health benefits than the regular tea bags. :)
@@helpfulnatural From what I've seen from tests from Consumber Labs and a few others Matcha does have the highest amounts of EGCG and Catechins but not nearly the amount you said. Consumer Labs had their highest tested Matcha powder at 91.8mg of EGCG and 248.9mg of Catechins. While the highest brewed from a bag was at 79mg/150mg. Bottled was much.
Our testing of Lipton green tea did not indicate any safety problem. Our Review includes our findings regarding heavy metals, caffeine, and green tea catechins (EGCG) in this and other popular green teas (www.consumerlab.com/reviews/Green_Tea_Review_Matcha_Supplements_and_Bottled/Green_Tea/)
Funny there are different kinds of Lipton green tea out there that one really gets confused. Some are packaged locally and are quite affordable while some are imported and pretty pricey... Now, thinking of these testing as I want to talk about Teas as a tiny section of my new RUclips channel💃💃
Bluddy he'll, another expert tells it different from other experts, why can't you all get together and agree on at least one of the factors of when ,where how its safe to drink green tea.
If radioactive contaminants from Japan's Fukushima meltdown are a concern, be advised that China also produces matcha tea; it is called called matcha tea from China or sometimes green tea powder from China.

Thank you
The full results of our tests, and our Top Picks for high-quality green tea (high in catechins, low in heavy metals, and well priced) are found our report at tinyurl.com/y9e3dyjg, which is available to ConsumerLab.com subscribers.
There is lead in lipton green tea. I switched to woolworths organic one with mint.
Do you know how the Davidson’s organic green was?

Forgot to ask if I can put a green tea bag into a glass of water and microwave that until the water is hot..?
We have not tested the effect of microwaving on the compounds in green tea, so no sure. Play it safe and just microwave the water, then add the bag.
So would 3 tea bags in a 32 ounce cold brewed Water bottle be to much? I drink it on an empty stomach in the morning on my Commute, but then I drink water the rest of the day
Is 8 cups a day too much
Benefits are associated with drinking 2 to 4 cups per day. You may not want to exceed that, as too much green tea can give you too much fluoride. Substitute the rest with water.
i actually have replaced water with green tea tbh.
I trust you'll now re-think that.
How about twinings teas? Is it safe to have 2-3 cups a day? Wha can you say about it?
It has to be the 100% pure green tea from Twinings i get it from sainsburys for around £1.25 for 20 tea bags just pure green tea.
Don't go any where near twining high levels of pesticides Etc
:) Here is a link to the Ito En matcha tea: www.amazon.com/Matcha-Love-Ceremonial-Canister-Antioxidant/dp/B01ESBOJ7G/ref=sr_1_7_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1540312327&sr=1-7&keywords=matcha%2Blove%2Btea%2Bpowder&th=1
It's also available in an organic version but costs a bit more.
Thank you so much
Is Lipton green tea safe??
Our testing of Lipton green tea did not indicate any safety problem. Our Review includes our findings regarding heavy metals, caffeine, and green tea catechins (EGCG) in this and other popular green teas (www.consumerlab.com/reviews/Green_Tea_Review_Matcha_Supplements_and_Bottled/Green_Tea/)
I'd so NO.
Funny there are different kinds of Lipton green tea out there that one really gets confused. Some are packaged locally and are quite affordable while some are imported and pretty pricey...
In my love for green tea, price doesn't move me to it, the feel of any I taste can get me to stick.
Now, thinking of these testing as I want to talk about Teas as a tiny section of my new RUclips channel💃💃
Fluoride is bad?
A small amount is good. Too much is bad -- like many other things.
Didnt Hitler use Fluoride to control the Jews to be docile. Not good for the pineal gland. How about it’s accumulative effects?
beer it is...
my thoughts exactly
Bluddy he'll, another expert tells it different from other experts, why can't you all get together and agree on at least one of the factors of when ,where how its safe to drink green tea.
Excellent, as always!
Thank you
But I like heavy metal. 🤘👨🌾
Good info
What is the best green tea?
Buena Domingo uncle lees green tea I drink it everyday but sometimes I mix it with apple cider vinegar
Lipton & Bigelow
If radioactive contaminants from Japan's Fukushima meltdown are a concern,
be advised that China also produces matcha tea; it is called called matcha tea
from China or sometimes green tea powder from China.
