Do not confuse being pissed off with having a mission; these drill instructors are 'actors' giving the recruits the action they sign up for. The longest journey begins with the first step. Some of these instructors have been shot at, lost companions and been scared too. In fact, most are not picked until they've experienced those things. These good men and women are trying to spare the recruits those things and it's not done with PC correct language nor attitude. It not that they're pissed that frames the mission. It's the responsibility of ensuring that recruit does not come home in a body bag for lack of training.

Again for the uninitiated; shooting at recruits on their first day is counterproductive but getting a kid from LA, NY, Seattle Miami, Des Moines or St. Louis requires a method. That method is inducing stress while tasking them with a mission. That mission is to act, think, perform as a cohesive unit while under fire but sissies would not know that. The shouting induces stress, especially among the uninitiated. The Marines have been kicking azz for 240 years; be sure to call them and tell them how to get it done...

      (1) The AF requires a higher IQ score so you're in with people who are more inteligent. Look at the guy above screaming and yelling at some poor fool he picks out.
      (2) You can get better training.
      (3) There is discipline but the AF is not so much on rigidness. In the AF they need you to think.
      (4) Women are treated better because with the higher IQ the men in the AF are not so libidio directed.
      (5) I was in the army, I did not take the AF because I would have to serve an extra year.
      (6) I took college courses in the army. I would learn about the subject and then I would take the correspondence course for the subject. It counts as college credit. But in the army I was considered an odd ball by some for concentrating on a college degree. The term "educated idiot" was used behind my back and also I look like a nerd.
Apparently you're considering joining. There's a test you have to take when you go in the service. It's called the ASVAB. There are books that help you understand it better. Highly recommended that you do those books before you take the test. Go to the library or order it on line. find as many as you can and do them. The higher the score the more jobs you have to pick from. Whatever you do, don't join the navy. They put women sailors on a ship with 90% men. A lot of them wind up pregnent and then you're a single mother. After you take the test, they'll tell you what jobs you can get. Make a list of them and look them all up, before you sign the paper work. Because the guy will want you to sign up right away but don't. Tell him you want to look up the jobs. He might even go through them but I would suggest looking them up. Don't take cook unless you want to do that as a profession. Don't take plane painting because it's dangerous to your health. I got about 2 years of college from the university of Maryland in the army and I used to get a teaching degree after I got out. After I got out I tutored for extra cash. I only took people who had cash and I guaranteed it would work. If I was'nt making progress after a week or two, I would tell the parents I need more time, (which would mean more money) It was generally becaus I had a kid who would not do homework and then I would have to do that with him.

If you are looking for a term of service that will benefit YOU the most - then yes - the Air Force is the way to go. The Coast Guard, Navy and the Air Force fight with machines (mostly). The Air Force has higher technology on average. The Navy has high technology but some of their tech is lower technology than the average in the Air Force.
One thing about the Coast Guard - is that they are doing their REAL job all the time. The other services spend most of their time training to do their real job. Once you are doing your real job - there is less emphasis on make work and maintaining discipline.
The Army and Marines fight with their bodies. They have machines but their bodies are a lot closer to the things that can kill them. There are elite units in the Army but the Marine Corp IS an elite unit. Being in an elite unit is WANTING something that will be very challenging - but - gives you a strong sense of pride in what you have done.
Look at the recruiting ad's for the different services. Most of the others talk about what they will do for you. With the Marine Corp ad's - it's - You Will Be A Marine.
One thing to keep in mind about the military - is that regardless of what is promised you - you are there to SERVE your country - NOT - for your country to serve you. Contracts usually involve going to a school ... once you've had the school ... they can and sometimes do use you in whatever they need someone for at the moment. Just because they send you to a school for something - does not mean that is what you are really going to do. Being trained to do one thing - and then being sent to do another because that's what they need someone to do at the moment - happens a LOT.
      .

When I was on the way to Navy basic, my parents got a letter advising them about what would be happening. The parents may have been briefed prior to that "phone call" about what was going to happen. Either that or else have a lot of concerned phone calls from parents.
About all the incoherent shouting? You get used to it and you start to understand what's being shouted at you. It's like learning another language. They have to shout from their diaphragm (much like the way an opera singer projects their voice) so that they can do it all day long and not destroy their voice.

The stress thats placed on females sometimes stops the menstrual cycle for the duration of training.

marine4814 in the first week my entire platoon synced up together but they were all scared to request to go to the head so everyone just let themselves bleed all over everything...I was the laundry rct lmao it was terrible. But after that nobody got it again the whole time we were there

Interesting. Aren't female hygiene items provided anyway at enrollment?

marine4814 yeah they were but because we don't get many opportunities to make a head call, they'd just bleed through their tampons/pads and panties. Plus most of us weren't expecting to get it yet that month but we were syncing up...it was chaos

If someone started screaming at me like that I would probably have a panicke attack..... And If I was doing the screening I would start laughing bc I wouldn't be able to take myself seriously or I'd loose my voice
