I’ve been dancing bachata for 6 months now (no prior experience) and I will say that going to dance studios and going to socials at least once a week helps expedite your skills on the dance floor. I’m at a point where I impress beginners & folks who have been dancing for months, but I still get intimidated by folks who have been dancing for years. Honestly if you’re consistent, you’ll inevitably get good.
I am learning bachata for almost ten months already from the ground zero with no experience in dancing at all, and I still consider myself as a beginner. I didn't went to social dances for a long time just for the reason that I didn't know what to do there. Now I think with some understanding of basics and real life practice the progress will be better.
The key to learn faster is practice. Team up with some partners in your dancing class and practice. And don't wait until you gave learned "enough". It's actually easier to practice lead and follow with fewer moves. After the next class you have a pair of new moves to throw in. And eventually you will be confident enough to dance with someone outside your class. For my social dance (in salsa) I only knew some variations on the basic step and a single turn. But that was ok as the follows were on the same level. (The salsa teacher arranged a social dance after just a few lessons.) So be the guy who takes the initiative to ask the others. Their schedules are probably full this week, but after the next class some can join you. And your dance school/studio/teacher can probably tell you some places where you can practice.
I've been trained for 6 months 5 hours per week and I just learned to find count 1 in music. It feels like I started not from zero but from below zero and only now I'm applicable for the noobie group.
Hi guys, I share your page with friends. I really appreciate you two, I like the bachata workout video! Could you do another one with some different moves? That video helps me get ready for class and practice.
Going to school 2 times a week, takes you nowhere. As a Lead, social dancing is not improving you so much (for Ladies is different, if they know basics they can follow). Would say 5hrs a week, dancing with partner (hard to find outside class) will take you very slow pace

that's great! hope you go out there soon!
A few glasses of wine before class will do the trick for some people, to be less shy/unconfident :D
🎉 🥳
Excellent practical advice, just follow it!
Exactly!

Great suggestion!

so how do you recommend learning faster?
Thanks
