  • Ahlam Khamis recites an excerpt from the poem "Mural" by Mahmoud Darwish on the last day of the exhibit: 'We Will Be What We Want To Be: From Baltimore To Palestine'.
"One day I will become what I want,
One day I will become an idea,
not carried by a sword or by a book to the wasteland,
as if it were rain on a mountain cracked by a blossoming grass,
neither force, nor exile, justice, triumph,
One day I will become what I want,
One day I will become a bird,
and pluck my existence out of nothingness,
    the more the wings burn,
the nearer to the truth I get,
    and rise from the ashes,
I am the dialogue of dreamers,
I withdraw from my body and from myself in order to complete my first journey,
    toward the meaning,
    which burns me and disappears,
    I am absence,
    I am The Heavenly One,
    The fugitive one,
One day I will become what I want."
