    Cliff, thank you for @2:02 showing the purple seat cushions. I just purchased Sea Eagle's NEW EZLite10 and took your advice and went on Amazon and bought the purple cushion (even before the boat arrived). Yesterday was my first day kayaking with the new kayak and my bottom thanks you. 😎 Your videos are incredible, both visually and educationally.

    Cliff. I’ve just been out on my 393 to pee wee falls on boundary dam. I purchased a cushion that’s supposed to be 1 1/2” thick. Great improvement in comfort but wow did it affect stability sitting higher. I’m sure with your advanced paddling skill it’s hardly noticeable. I noticed it even affected my paddle angle. I need to find a pad thick enough to add comfort without the adverse affect in handling.

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  Год назад

      Hi 👋 Joe - Did you get the purple inch and a half cushion that I was using in the video? Give it a few trips to see how you adjust to the higher seating position. To me, a higher seating paddling angle is preferable. I find I get less paddle drip in the boat and being higher allows me to get a higher angle paddling stroke. Even though the purple cushion is an inch and a half thick, it does compress and you really should only be noticing about a three-quarter inch height adjustment. Safe adventuring out there Joe!

    • @Joe-xq1nt
      @Joe-xq1nt Год назад +1

      Cliff. If I decide to keep the 393 I’ll give that cushion a try. As much as I enjoy the 393 there are a couple of things that I really dislike so I may be selling and moving to something else.

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  Год назад

      Hi 👋 Joe- Just curious…..what things do you not like about the 393?

    • @Joe-xq1nt
      @Joe-xq1nt Год назад +1

      Cliff, first would be the foot pegs. They hook on very little space and it takes very little and they lose the position I have them set at. Then when attempting to get them to the desired slot the seat bottom shifts out of place. (That Seat I think is fixable with a couple of wide strips of Velcro under seat)
      I prefer the tracking with the skeg attached. We have been out on small lakes that are spring fed. While going up the feed streams in shallower waters to see the beaver damns etc there are lots of water plants etc. . Next thing you know your dragging 10-15 pounds of weeds on the skeg. Some times I can back paddle and they drop other times I have to drag them around till I get back out to open water and beach or jump in and pull them off.
      I truly hate folding it up and getting it back in the bag. The web site is done with an older model with no foot braces and the folding points wouldn’t be the same. They acknowledged they need a new instruction video long ago but it doesn’t happen. I find it a real beast to clean up, fold up and get it back in the bag. Mine has to go back in the bag for transport and storage.
      Lastly I had no idea this has to be stored at room temperature. That’s not posted on their web site. When I contacted them after owning I found out not to store in a garage or shed that gets hot. Store at room temp. (Something to do with the glue and seams I think)
      The last two are the issues that may make me sell it. Nothings perfect and the 393 is the best in any inflatable kayak I’ve seen to date but it may not be right for me. I haven’t quite decided what I’ll do.

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  Год назад

      Hey Joe - Thanks for elaborating on the issues you have. As far as folding, if you want to get it back into the backpack, you need to remove the foot pegs.
      I never put it back into the back, so it is not an issue for me. I simply fold it into quarters or thirds, then place on a storage shelf or in my truck. If I ever fly
      with the RazorLite, I will then need to remove the foot pegs for tighter folding in the backpack. I have always made it a practice of storing anything fabric
      related (tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, water bladders, folding chairs etc.) in a climatized space. Here in Texas, attics and garages get extremely hot and anything made of fabric, nylon, glue can start to degrade. Because I spend great money on these items, I have no problem storing in an unused bedroom or in a
      climatized storage facility. Granted, a hard shell plastic kayak can be stored anywhere (out of the sun) and be the same today or 10 years from today. They take
      up ALOT space though, then they are a booger to transport. What about the roof racks you need to buy, then the poor gas mileage you get when transporting
      that way?
      I almost always paddle without the skeg, because I like the maneuverability I get, plus the ability to edge, which allows me to turn by simply shifting my
      weight and position in the boat. It tracks extremely well while paddling without the skeg and I’ll admit, once I stop paddling it has a mind of it’s own where
      it tracks . . .
      Good luck on your quest! We all have things that we want out of our equipment and what is right for one person, may not necessarily be right for another.
      For me, kayaks that inflate / fold or break down make more sense for my adventures. Hope this helps, have a great weekend!

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  2 года назад +1

      Hi 👋 John, The razor light is made of three separate drop stitch inflatable bladders that get extremely hard to 10 psi. Connecting the three bladders into the shape of the boat is 1000 denier black material that forms the bottom of the boat. This material is very durable and no problem if it runs over smooth waterlogged wood or smooth water shaped rock. Anything sharp like certain lime stone formations or oyster beds should be avoided. That being said, whenever I had my own boats and now with my kayaks, typically I try to avoid dragging over anything below the surface if I can avoid it. Sometimes it cannot be avoided, but the boat is very durable, just stay away from sharp features underwater. hope this helps, safe adventuring out there!

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  2 года назад

      First of all, thank you for your service! If you ever wanna paddle once you’re settled in Dallas, just let me know. Basically, the Fastrak is a good medium offering, do everything boat. It does give you decent speed, so you can paddle longer distances. It does give you excellent stability if standing up is important to you. Also, if you want to pack it up with a bunch of weight or paddle tandem with someone else, you have that option as well with the fast track.
      The razor light, is what you want if you want the most speed, while still having excellent load carrying capability. You do lose the capability of standing though. Also, there is not the option of paddling tandem in the standard RazorLite. Also, if you think you will be doing any fishing, the fast track would be better for that activity as well. They make a really cool angler model.

    Great video Cliff.
    Love the under water photography too.
    You mentioned your butt starts to hard after a while. I noticed you had an inflatable "Deluxe" seat in your Fast Track. Did you try that in your Razorlite yet? Remember to inflate the bottom a little over half full for center of gravity. Let me know if you found that more comfortable or not.
    Great demonstration on re-entering the Razorlite from the water. Couldn't be easier I'd say. Try that on a folding kayak like the Tucktec or ORU (not). From the videos I've seen, they'd fill up with water and you would be unable to even paddle. Even most hard shell kayaks would be much harder to re-enter, and also likely to fill up with a lot of water. What happens on those kayaks if your out on the ocean, and your kayak flips far from shore or your unable to land it anywhere? You'd be in trouble. But on most Sea Eagle inflatables, no problem. Just get back on. I'd say much safer than other kayaks. And the multiple air chambers make the odds of getting a puncture and not making it back unlikely. I've actually witnessed hard shell kayaks sink after hitting rocks and developing a hole in them.
    In over a decade, I can only remember 1 day of kayaking with my Sea Eagles 100 degrees or more. I kept my Paddleski a little soft. On really hot days, I hear it's a good idea to leave room for the air to expand. Here in New England we don't get a lot of those days. But you have to be able to take the cold in winter. I love skiing. Wish I got to go more often.

      Thanks Nate! I hope you’re able to get out this weekend and enjoy another day out on the water! I’m thinking of getting the paddle ski out this weekend. Take care and safe adventuring! I have used the inflatable seat before, but in the RazorLite I prefer the black high backseat. I love the support of the high back and having a lower center of gravity.

      @@KayakCliff I'm hoping to go Sunday with my friends that have the Fast Track, and the new 2.5 HP Yamaha motor. We may take it on one of my Paddeski's, or I'll use my Razorlite and they'll be on the Fast Track depending on where they want to go. We had problems with the motor, but they think it was pushing the choke in too quickly. I'm hoping it's resolved as my Torqeedo is broken, and I have some new potentially exciting adventures in mind I've not done that require the range of a gasoline motor.
      I'm glad you got to try the Deluxe seat. I love them. But it's personal preference. You may be a bit taller which might make a difference on the center of gravity too.
