It’s funny, as tough as the life seemed up in the Highlands, you can’t help feeling jealous of the simplicity and living there.

Apologies for disabusing you of your misplaced romantic notion of the highlands, but during the period from May to September you will be eaten alive by the midges. The weather will on the whole be dreary, overcast and rainy more often than not. The winters are very dark and brutally cold.
There isn't much in the way of entertainment. The pubs tend to be little more than mean drinking dens. Additionally, you have to drive miles on very demanding roads to get to any halfway decent shops. Lastly, the locals tend not to take to incomers.

Did the actress, who played Maggie, die or something? She went to driving no the bus to the show not having a bus driver and references about her being married to Sorry and living elsewhere.

It's both comical and appalling that the poor put-upon womenfolk on the Glendarroch estate are treated as mere skivvies or chattel to be freely traded among the crofters and the farmers like some prized stock.
In my book, the only woman worthy of consideration is the ever-fragrant Mrs Mack, but as she's mine, those oafish farmers can stick to gazing wistfully at their stinky sheep.
