I loved Neal's guitar playing, and his voice. I so loved these times when he was playing with Ryan! Also LOVE his entire solo catalog. He was such a monster musician!
I mis Neal Casal, hearing Ryan playing guitar with Neal was magic. I will never forget the first time i heard them play, it always brings a big smile on my face but also a tear sometimes knowing Neal is not walking around on this planet anymore.
I discovered this song after my wife left me and I instantly connected to it because I thought "Wow, this is my life"! Plus, the music portion of the song is well written.
I know this has been written a hundred times, but i just found Ryan Adams, and i can't believe how awesome he is! Just when my faith in good new music is at it's lowest, you hear a talent like this and you almost feel relieved!!!
Oh Ryan. Your music always reminds me of my beloved best friend, Jake. He introduced me to your music years and years ago, with New York New York. He adored you and went to several of your concerts, I want to say he even met you a handful of times. He passed away 4 years ago this December 17, and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him...and oddly enough, in this video...you even look a bit like him. Thank you for your music. Thank you for being a positive reminder of my best friend in the world.
I've been around some, played in a few bands, lived loved lost. This was such a band folks I'm not sure the world understood that. An inspiration for sure!
Love putting on a playlist of Ryan Adams mixed with Noah Gundersen. Adams gives the sweet smooth folk/rock sound with a bluesy feel, Gundersen provides the raw emotion with a similar, heavier smoothness. I highly suggest anyone looking up Noah Gundersen and doing likewise with a playlist!
Spot on, my brother. It is interesting that, given RA's proclivity for covers, I've never seen/heard him do a cover of a Neil Young song. Maybe the connection/similarity is too obvious. But definitely a descendant of Neil.
there is a live clip of he and Norah Jones performing "Old Man" but it's kind of rough. Maybe he performed that one at The Bridge benefit solo at one point too.
This song has the sound and feel of a sixties or seventies rock classic. I thought it might be one I hadn't heard before the first time I listened to it.
To be in the room when this classic was played....maybe my Alter Boy points will kick in my next life. Everything about this video is tops. WHat happened to 'Magnolia Mountain' from this session? It was on u-tube. Ryan Adams is the best find in a long time. Westerberg, XTC, The Band, B Marley, Dylan class. Freaky talented
Neil's Gibson 'bat-wing' can take a bite out of your soft fleshy parts. It's an angry machine to control and its played and fits so well on this song. This session with the lights needs to be its own album. So good it hurts not to have it beyond utube. Ryan Adams is a prolific monster of good music and a national treasure. Ryan, please look both ways before crossing and remember to eat your vegetables.
This makes me heart happy. The first time I heard this song, it was off of a Paste CD Sampler.. first time hearing your stuff from Easy, Tiger. it was something different than what I had heard from you before (Cold Roses, and most of your Cardinals stuff). I instantly fell in love with your music all over again (for the millionth time), and doing so again right now!
Great song. I've been playing guitar for nearly fifty years and have played Neil Young's "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" nearly as long. I don't understand people seeing a similarity here. Musically they are very different, both great songs, but very different. Maybe because they both have "Everybody Knows" in the title? Anyway, I really dig the sound of their guitars. Beautiful.
Timothy Christopher I'm about to put it on my face book lol. he seems to have a fairly diverse base of sounds. I've been listening to him for few years. I should probably buy the discography already so I can pick out his various sounds through the years and albums
Jody Collier That was actually the last one I got into lol, I guess it's like getting into Phish, everybody StarTeD and Ended somewhere..and That's the ONE thing I'd prefer over Phish, He's remains Relevant right?, but I mean Trey like fucking 65 or something.? I dunno dude
Oh, and can we all just take a moment to be thankful he didn't go the way of so many other brilliant but troubled artists struggling with addiction. Love is Hell is a great album, but I'm so glad he's clean and alive!!!
OMG! #ryanadams DAILY I need your flow of tunes as much as I need air.. thanks for the soul fill and pleasurable, vibes, like lullabies, Another Scorpio🔥
@@gmar7836 RA is definitely classier now than he used to be. Sober, recording, performing, but more importantly he‘s humble, considerate and connected.
Have been a Ryan Adams fan for years, and have seen him with a few different band ensembles as well as solo (at Walt Disney Center in Los Angeles, superb), and am understanding that he changes band members often and that they are all, always, excellent musicians; however, Neil Casal's (lead guitar, on the right in this video) combination of sublime guitar skills and subtle and beautiful harmonizing, along with the rest of the badasses in this band--will always be glad to have seem this crew live and all can relive it on RUclips. (BTW: Neil Casals now touring at lead guitarist in the Chris Robinson band, and playing wide open rocknroll and blues solos--he rips it!)
I saw Ryan three times in Munic (starting 2003): first time in cirkus krone (a desaster), two more times in small venues - one very good, the other outstanding.
As much as I enjoyed the recent solo acoustic tour, saw RA in Boston and L.A. in 2012, I hope some day he plugs in and gets Neil Casals and these other playahs on his hip again. So fine!
You know when we saw them live, he was nice enough to change the lyrics to a tune for a this girl in the audience who was celebrating her b-day :-) They were so highhhhh....great show!
Ryan Adams is such a truly amazing work of art.. A brilliant person and great, honest songwriter. He knows how to be himself and shows that in his music. Great vid..
Initially I interpreted this song (music is interpretation. There can be a meaning by the writer but it’s up to the person listening to interpret it their way) to make me the one in love and that’s how it went for the place I was in life when I first heard this. Great song nonetheless……..

I've loved this song for so long. I never get too much of it and once every few years, it pops into my head in the middle of the night. After that happens, I have to hear it and sing it before going back to sleep. I guess you could say it has a hold on me.
the single most prolific singer songwriter, ever, imo
Define prolific
Not really true but a very talented writer and musician.

yeah, been there.
Yep
Everybody implies she knew, but took it on anyway 🤷♀️ we create our own hell usually.
I miss you, Neal. Thank you for the time you gave. Some of the best music ever made. ❤️
This version is better than the album version in my opinion. I love the middle instrumental part that isn’t on the album.
RIP Neal. You were truly amazing.
@@sarahfaith6531 Oh god, a confused little mee-too-er...

What a tragic loss! Pure talent!
it’s so heartbreaking. Neal had such a beautiful, singular sound. so melodic and heart felt. RIP ❤
❤ I miss him so much.

Story of my life!
I went on a trip through this song
5 great musicians. Only 3 still with us 😢
Favourite Male Solo Artist
Just discovered this song. Wow...the melody opens the door to powerful lyrics that hit home. Outstanding.
Try come pick me up,,best love song ever
My 16 year always makes me play this in the car. She tells me it’s her favorite song.
One of the best songs written and performed in the last decade. Great homage to Neil. Love this tune
Neil?
@@gmar7836 just kinda sounds like he’s channeling Neil Young vibes and guitar tones. Great song

2023 and still enjoying this
I miss these kind of songs. Such a unique voice and perfect band.
Man - how good's the tone on his guitar.
Yes... its really good. Neal's SG too.
Gibsons through fender princetons equals awesome tone!!!
its so hard to watch this amazing music when two of the four are dead....RIP spacewolf and neil, I wish i knew you...
Nothing in this world hits me like this music does, This music takes me home when I feel lost. If you know, you know.
I do know
Adams and Casal together is killer.

Ryan Adams is so awesome that an ad was about to play before this video but didn't.
Jesus the OG Cardinals were on 🔥🔥🔥🔥
This song should be flooding the airwaves instead of the meaningless crap that is on every time I get in the car.
That opening guitar riff is just about perfect. It's like Neil and Crazy Horse with a bit of spit polish.
Spot on, my brother. It is interesting that, given RA's proclivity for covers, I've never seen/heard him do a cover of a Neil Young song. Maybe the connection/similarity is too obvious. But definitely a descendant of Neil.
They are definitely using a lot of "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" in this song and it works great.

well said!
This song is in my top 10. Listen to it A LOT. Ryan's voice just does it for me. Thank you for this song guys.

The coolest vid for coolest rockers!!!
LOVE this almost signs something that’s a B side to Wednesdays
Massive Ryan fan.... loved this set. Kinda channeling Garcia and Weir here. Ryan keeps on evolving as only true talents can and do. A true great
I can't stop listening to this song!!
LOVE THIS SONG. In some ways Anything you say to me now feels like a sequel.
Son, you're lost. He is one of the best song-writers of today.
This song has the sound and feel of a sixties or seventies rock classic. I thought it might be one I hadn't heard before the first time I listened to it.
That is exactly why i came to youtube, to find out the date of this song and was surprised
Such a fucking great tune. Who the fuck writes and sounds like this guy? Fuckin nobody...that's who.
Fuckin' right!
+P.G. Reitsma absolutely nobody you are right
I was gonna say this sounds like modern Neil Young
A modern Neil Young mixed with a modern Tom Petty !
He and Isbell are on another level. Best friends, surely not a coincidence.
This is still one of my favorites by DRA. I love this live version...fantastic! RIP "Space Wolf"...Chris was a great bassist.
maybe the best line-up that has had ¡¡¡¡
Somehow his stuff gets better with the passage of time. I mean, I liked this song already, but then you come back to it and it's like, "holy shit!"
