damn i wish i coulda talked to this guy before he died. so much of what he said has haunted me for 15 years now. It culminated last year in my endless thoughts driving me mad and ultimately causing me to jump off a cliff to escape the torment. I barely survived and am in the long process of recovery after numerous surgeries. I feel so alone in these thoughts and it would be so nice to talk to someone who accepts this explanation for the emergence of consciousness in individuals
I think he is right about the self being an illusion but I’m not sure about his bit about blue sky. I think he either fails to adequately explain his point or he is wrong altogether.
Well, he will see a day when he says "I was wrong". Innumerable near death experience are documented by people who have convinced themselves that consciousness is untouched and is beyond physical body and mind.
NDE is no different than a psychedelic trip. You take the chemical, your brain simulates the experience, you feel like you are one with the universe, or whatever. The drug wears off, you come back to reality. It is the same when you die. The drug wears off, and you are gone, and that is it. The difference between taking the drug and dying, is that you still have a body to "return" to when the trip is over. When you're dead, you have no brain left to generate any sort of experience. If it's any consolation, I believe that the universe is playing all roles, always. The subjective nature of reality is just another illusion. So by that line of logic, "you" should "return". Although it won't be you, because like this channel notes, "you" are just an illusion.
Enjoying these talks. Thank you.

@@thenacregod Perhaps Mr. Dennett is being intellectually dishonest in service to a higher class; A deceptive species of the dead.
I am glad you did not die. For what it's worth. I enjoy discourse like this, come join the conversation.
This view makes sense if there is some external material that can not be reduced to anything, which is probably not the case.

NDE's are BS. I had a NDE too, read my community posts for clarification.
