I feel the people behind the scenes, behind a cinematic piece, are often forgotten about. But sometimes it is in the best of ways; Tom's performances over the years along with the team of puppeteers make that character real and people forget there's that kind of technical magic behind it. Anyone can put on a costume but it takes true devotion to make that costume a character you can latch onto.
I feel bad for cgi animators too tho, because they are so underpaid and overworked. All the people in the effects industry are. People that do the best part of movies get the brunt of it, while the directors and actors take all the fame and glory
John Woodruff Jr you will always be such a great hero and actor to me! You're an amazing creature creator and makeup artist! You've always raised the bar no matter what you've been involved in! Thank you so very much for all your awesome work and for sharing your incredible talent with us all! Lady Anne ^^ö^^ (@LadyBatChild)
I have always wanted to be a creature/costume performer. I hope I get a chance to do it one day. Ive studied animals ever since I had seen one, and Ive always copied them, and when I get alone, I sometimes get in a mirror with my dino mask or something and I try to do different things. I also like to watch people control animatronics and I hope I get to do that one day too.
People in Hollywood need to realize you're only supposed to use CGI to help make certain things better not make the whole entire movie CG are practical effects still reigns supreme I wish more filmmakers would get back to the practical effects
Zarina Stern : It was cut with the wrong Gil Man footage. He did play the Gil Man in UNIVERSAL's MONSTER SQUAD in 1980's, not the Gil Man in CREATURE from the Black LAGOON (1950's)
I really didnt much like Alien3 but that damn creature is really growing on me. I had to end up ordering the Dog Alien figure along with the Big Chap 79 and Concept Big Chap 79 Translucent.
I guess he's speaking metaphorically when he talks about _Creature from the Black Lagoon_ because that movie came out in 1954 and he was born in 1959..
Interesting. He's done some fine work (e.g. Alien 3) How is he POSSIBLY old enough to have been the Creature from the Black Lagoon in 1954. I'm 75 and was only 7 when it came out. RIcou Browning and Ben Chapman are credited in IMDB.
Woodruff looks too young to have been in,"The Creature from the Black Lagoon." That movie was in black and white. One had has to be extremely flexible to do that kind of work (body acting).

i really admire this man, i've always loved monster movies and practical effects like this.
hats off to you, mr woodruff
Let’s game! Metcha game! Mutcha game! Whatcha name?
Alien fan for life❤
I've been enjoying this lad's work for years.
Good to see the enthusiastic realistic face underneath 😃
The Gill man Footage is all wrong. He was the Gill-man from The Monster Sqaud movie. not 1954 version.
Thank you! That makes a lot more sense now.
Ikr!?!?
IKR!!!
Monster squad is such a goodmovie
Sadly this is all being taken over by CGI...
ExMachina inap not always, someone still has to act in place for whatever creature it is.
ExMachina inap Andy Serkis
ExMachina inap
Nope, no matter how good CGI is, Practical effects will always need to be included to make it believable.
I feel bad for cgi animators too tho, because they are so underpaid and overworked. All the people in the effects industry are. People that do the best part of movies get the brunt of it, while the directors and actors take all the fame and glory
Even for CGI you need a creature actor if you want it to look realistic
I accidentally clicked on this, but I was very intrigued.
I've only ever been inside a mascot suit, I now want the opportunity to be inside a monster suit.
Very interesting video. Thanks for it. I always loved Sci-Fi movies. I adore xenomorphs from the Alien franchise
Me 3 I'm oppsesed sry if bad spelling

This guy is the coolest
Didn`t know that Alien and monster from Black Lagoon it`s a same guy! get know smth new everyday )) Amazing job, thank u, Mr.Woodruff.
Zarina Stern : It was cut with the wrong Gil Man footage.

And I don't think he was actually in the Alien suit until Alien3. It was a few other people in Aliens and Bolaji Badejo in Alien.
Such a legend! I love practical monster effects. It brings a kinetic reality to the film!
So cool to get some insight on things in movies many people don't even think about!
I really didnt much like Alien3 but that damn creature is really growing on me. I had to end up ordering the Dog Alien figure along with the Big Chap 79 and Concept Big Chap 79 Translucent.
Why does this video not already have over 1mil views
What an amazing person! This is so inspiring. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Analog Andy Serkis.
jk, great work.
+retroholmes or Andy Serkis is the digital Tom Woodruff
Andy will never agree to do hours of work inside a rubber suit
i want a xenomorph suit!!!! i think im obsessed....
i want this guy in the harambe movie
The Cringe Lord the name suits you
Tom Woodruff Jr and Kevin Peter Hall would make awesome dinner conversation
Wouldn't they feel bad that Bolaji Badejo wasn't invited?
Man. This is amazing! Goals
Playing Goro must have been absolute hell. Can you imagine trying to act with that huge, animatronic torso sitting on your shoulders?
Best video ever.
A professional fursuiter

I guess he's speaking metaphorically when he talks about _Creature from the Black Lagoon_ because that movie came out in 1954 and he was born in 1959..
What movie was the bear creature from? That looks awesome!

He played the Gillman in Monster Squad not the original.
@@windowsVD OK, thanks!
But the photos he showed were from the original.
@@KutWrite Pretty sure he wasn’t responsible for editing this segment. You can blame the Academy for that.
The legendary grid!

Such a shame they rely too much on CGI now...
6:05 is that goro from mortal kombat?
Yup
Now we have CGI
some stuff can be used without cgi. but sometimes they abuse the use of cgi
At the end he rips off his face and turns into a demon.
I would sneak out an alien suit

This can't b real.. is it? No.. its a spoof. Right? This guy cant be all hyped about wearing monster suits...
All the people in the effects industry, whether suits or effects or cgi, are overworked and underpaid alot of the time. People that do the best part of movies and make the magic get the brunt of it, while the directors and actors take all the fame and glory
