Yeah he really is. From what I noticed since watching these gentle giants, is that his overall attitude has changed a lot since coming to this enclosure. I'm not sure if this enclosure is just more appealing to them or if it's bigger or what the situation is but he seems a lot more happy. I guess as happy as a gorilla can be locked up 27/7 w/millions of spectators staring, pointing their fingers, laughing, smiling at him all day. I wonder if the smiling annoys him? From what I've learned about primates and gorillas is that when one shows their teeth it's a sign of aggression & dominance. But this is off topic. This place seems 2 really care about these animals and they need customers 2 help with the cost of caring 4 such costly animals. That's 4 sure. Sadly at the rate these animals are going extinct it will be rescues and or zoo's that are the only place left in the world that can even show us these beautiful animals. They only continue to disappear in the told in such a fast rate. Tragic.

Thanks for this particularly sweet footage today...It's so nice to be reminded like this when Shabani is being so playful & cute that he's still technically a "teenager" (19 years old???) & the magnificent beauty & gentle demeanor of this powerful silverback are legendary....I could gladly sit & do nothing but observe this loving gorilla family for hours & hours on end...They're simply fascinating like all Great Apes.... *: )*

Shabani is a good husband and a loving dad. He is fun guy who likes to play catch with them when they are bored. They respect him . You can see during eating they always left good food for him.

Kiyo looked like he wanted to kiss the bird, Shabani as gentle as ever didn't want any harm to come to Kiyo or the bird.

Shabani is a healthy and handsome gorilla. To me he is a STAR in gorillas world. Thanks to Japan Zoo keeper and everyone involved.
Another example of a silverback being protective of another species. Not one bit of aggression. Kinda like Harambe and the human child.
