I sometimes wonder that, but how was he to know, really. This stuff is just all too too good and I miss the days of my 1980s youth back in the East Village!
RuPaul was clearly a star even back then.. also... Isn't it delightfully strange to see everyone interacting without a cell phone? Sigh ... I miss those days.
I so miss these days in Manhattan, being in my 20s, hanging with my all my friends in the East Village ... The Pyramid, Boy Bar followed by slit pea soup at the Kiev ... it s all gone now. LOVE the no cell phone bit too! Except for the AIDS epidemic those days are a distant memory. AIDS during that time still haunts and tortures me 35 years later as I know it does so many survivors today. I got out alive, as did you and RU. We are the lucky ones! Cheers.
Because Madonna was the IT girl in the 80s dominating the charts. Anything that Madonna did back then was exciting news, even more so for the gay community. Into the groove was only 3 years old back then. The excitement for a new madonna release could somehow be compared to the current excitement for a new avengers movie
Never met him...feels like he didnt change on the inside, far as warmth and star presents. Love he got all "madonna" over get into the groove. Were so much more dismissive over ppl "doing it" these days. Looooove your posts, tnx 4uploading!
I sit here with a blunt in my hand real demure looking at Old RuPaul in the late 80s the year I was born 87 he was a stone wall fool get it stone wall stone full
Wow has drag evolved. Drag then and drag now. Men in drag looked like men in drag back then but now???? Men in drag look better than me and I'm a woman.
Drag queens back then were not supposed to resemble actual women but an exaggerated version of femininity. Drag queens were obvious men made up as women. If anything, women today wear too much makeup and look like clowns and drag queens themselves.
That's not what RuPaul was going for back then anyway. This was the Pyramid Club, an 80s club playing what was then called "alternative" music. RuPaul was going for an edgy different androgynous look. There were other queens at the time that went for the "woman" look at other clubs, not at the Pyramid Club though.
Seems to me, despite likability, star presence and the confidence that comes from knowing who you are, that Ru Paul held court off stage as if what he did onstage was more remarkable than it objectively was.
Very damaged people, particularly the one who wagged his tongue into the camera. Desperate for any attention, this is the behavior of profoundly wounded individual.
Nelson dancing was the best part of the video
80s in NY were legendary. I am SO glad I got to experience all that
Its like Nelson already knew most of these guys would be mega stars in the future.

5:43 looks like Sasha velour was there too lol

The one dislike is Michelle Visage
Rupaul from the 90's! Amazing!
In the 80's!
Where’s the margarine tub of COKE?
6:35 Whoa it's like Hopey & Maggie in the Flesh
RuPaul should host pageants like Ms. Universe. Or a reality show where RuPaul trains female pageant contestants, as he's a Class A act.
RuPauls drag race, baby!
Fenton Bailey was so cute.... And who's Robert Warren.
He's a writer and musician
Fenton and Randy have been together for 40 years. That is true love.

Where these tattoos on Rue or just permanent marker
I was wondering the same thing. I have a feeling it's marker pen.
Marker he would always draw them on himself!
Rupaul’s outfits used to be so ratchet lol

Rupaul is such a ladies man
eeerbdy wyt
Cherie definitely was on the slopes that evening 🤫😤🤭🤧🤢
That dude with the long, (dyed) blonde hair is gross.
THIS video redeems Ru Paul in my mind....He was ALWAYS a phony....
Seems to me, despite likability, star presence and the confidence that comes from knowing who you are, that Ru Paul held court off stage as if what he did onstage was more remarkable than it objectively was.
Did you see Nelson's last video? He was there the night Nelson died.
he was drug addicted?

Everyone acting fake, or bored, Ru Paul practising he laughing on cue
