A Correction to the information in the video. Regarding Bennerley Viaduct. The viaduct is essentially a wrought iron structure, the only cast iron is the base plates. Thank you to the Friends of Bennerley viaduct for your support and information
One place you want to get to is Sutton Level Locks Frodsham next to Sutton Hall Golf Course, since the locks is a canal boat Graveyard containing The Mersey/ Weaver Flat Daresbury dating from 1776 and was aflote till 1956 when it was towed to the graveyard there
My 2 favourite you tubers on my now favourite viaduct, I could spend all day on here just watching the trains underneath. Its a beautiful piece of historic architecture. Thanks Martin & Ant. ❤😊
"Canals, railways and stuff like that?" I KNEW thus would be ACE!!! Brilliant as usual Martin mate, your prouiction skills, massively impressive, mate, utterly brilliant from research onwards.....
Never thought I'd see Bennerly again! Raised a lump in my throat for sure. Was one of my almost daily sights, to and from Toton, Ratcliffe, and the Midlands. Spent many happy hours at signal checks round there, just watchintg the countryside, the fish in the Erewash, listening, and enjoying. Thanks for this, from the bottom of my heart ,very, very bittersweet. And thanx for putting us on to another good channel we might never have found-collabs bring wider benefits , no mistake. BTW, contact made about the Victoria basement thing , waiting results. Always bloody waiting !
Hey up, Matin.....don't know if you know of this, but...........you know what I said above about finding new stuff ? I suspect you may find this interesting, there's a sub-cult of using re-purposed electronic test equipment for music applications. Found this , somehow from Trekking and towpath site you referenced. Weird, and deep.ruclips.net/video/jtsn4W-jtnM/видео.html
Lovely photography and use of old images. Bennerley Viaduct is a WROUGHT IRON viaduct, not a cast iron one. The viaduct does sit on cast iron base plates but the majority of the structure is wrought iron. The viaduct is grade 2* listed. It will be open to the public next year after 50 years of closure.
Hi Martin, firstly like many others, I’ve enjoyed watching all your videos since finding the one about the canal trap door! The line across Fledborough Viaduct up to 1980 was used by coal trains heading down to London and it was one of these that derailed at Clifton Station, just east of the Trent. I worked at Lincoln Railway Depot at the time and under a huge pile of coal and smashed up wagons, the track was completely destroyed. As Ant said, there was an alternative route available, so the line East of the power station closed. I subsequently moved to Derbyshire and didn’t realise until today that the viaduct was still standing! Keep up the great videos.... Cheers Don
Thank you for taking the Nettles for us . That is quite a View ! It was Nice that you had the local expert to help you out ,these collabs are great . I will look for his channel . I love your Canals they are so much different than our Erie .
Fantastic places! I'm always faintly terrified of abandoned viaducts, the bit where you were saying that you could feel it moving with the wind made my blood run cold! That drone footage was astounding too. Great stuff!
For anyone who doesnt know what a corking picture is, its means its a belter.... i mean brilliant haha The railways that are disused in liverpool are now tarmac for use as a cycle track, The Trans Pennine Trail. iv walked a fair bit of it under the tunnels and over the old bridges that all all still there, iv walked from Aintree through to Hunts Cross. Only did that because of watching youre videos mate so thank you. Im not sure if there is much in Wigan where im from in regards to disused railways I love your videos mate. Theyre Superb 👍🏻
I love your videos Martin. They are so honest and show your enthusiasm for the subjects. So much better than when a TV production team does it for the money.
Now, what wasn't included in that video, we had trains, viaducts, canals, countryside, wildlife, flowers, boats, disused railways, blimey I couldn't keep up!!! Thought there were a lot of mosquitoes about when you were standing on the viaduct that seems to be supported on milk churns, turns out its your drone doing all those high shots - thought you'd stopped doing that, some sweaty palm moments there thank you very much😨!!!!! Great stuff as usual Martin, Sundays have returned to normal👍
Awesome! Feels like a long time since you last posted Martin. It was worth the wait! The midlands!!!! I’m home!! Straight off a 66 light engine and then another on a freight!!! 😁👍👊What a set of viaducts ! The whitewicks will be jealous! 🤣 Ants got a new subscriber!!! 👍😁👊
Hi Martin, great to see another video from you. Such a beautiful part of the country you guys cover. It's so amazing to see all of the older infrastructure still surviving to present day, it makes you feel proud to be British in that sense. Thank you so much for taking us along on your journey, I can tell how much hard work it took walking and driving just to bring us these amazing locations. x
Another great video thanks! You guys have some of the best rail infrastructure ever made anywhere on the planet and it’s so good to see these 2 amazing monuments still standing - they are both awesome structures. Thanks for sharing. 👍
That was excellent. I haven't seen an "M-Z" video in a while (been a bit poorly), so this was a proper tonic! I wish I'd known about these during my time in Derby (University, '93 - '96). I would have loved bimble along the lines. I'm not so mobile these days, but hey-ho, you guys have saved me the hard work. ✅ I spent some time in Chesterfield too, and frequently visited a friend in Nottingham. We spent quite a lot of time around Mapperly, and quite often went for toddles along the banks of the Trent, near Stoke Bardolph. It wouldn't have been an epic drive to see these viaducts. The only real sadness is that there aren't any trains running on these lines anymore.
A very beautiful spot you want to that was that was really nice then again it is beautiful over there another awesome video thank you Martin and I'll keep watching your friend from across the sea
What a joy to see the drone working fantastic video Martin . The hairs on my neck were standing on end the height of the viaduct. Great watching even at 3 am Monday morning.

Wow, now that was worth waiting for and my home town (Lincoln) even got a mention, that's another masterpiece Martin and I look forward to the next one
Looked like you had a right laugh. Nice one Martin. You can't beat a good old cast iron lattice viaduct. I always find it amazing how an area that was once fully industrialized can return to a tranquil haven with wildlife and flora and fauna of all types. The deer shot was a nice touch as was the water skier have to have a go at that on the medlock! I bet that first ice cold pint went down a treat after filming!
Cracking video Martin, great shots of canal boat etc ,drone action and views are amazing, I use to cope with heights well, when I was young and roofing, heights you get to with the drone doesn't half remind me I'm getting on now , ha, ha You do a canny job of the music too, thanks Martin really enjoyed the whole video👍🙂

Very professional as normal Martin. 👍 It must be like a full-time job for you. The drone views are excellent and really add to the perspective. You can see how the item really sits in it's environment. Interesting about Bennerley Viaduct and being made of cast iron for lightness. Some were cast on-site which could be dangerous. Tay Bridge was cast on-site then in bad weather and the weight of a train sadly caused a disaster and it collapsed. I understand it was because bubbles had occurred during the casting process and made it weaker.
Thank you for this one Martin. I watched this video a while back, ever since then i have had this idea that when the weather improves next year, i will be getting the bikes out for a ride or two, the first being Lincoln to Fledborough. If we can get further than Fledborough that would be great, but i am of the understanding that Network rail has active infrastructure west of there.
Thank you for your reply I love the ones where you are following the river and going in the tunnels also the canal was fantastic when it was drained and some of the music that you use also is really beautiful and matches the video so well thanks very much good work up you are a fantastic presenter I should always watch all your videos regardless of the content as they are quality
Great Video Martin. The land you thought were sidings in Fledborough are what remains of the old station buildings and an access track used when the line was converted to a cycle route. I live nearby and used to walk along the old line once they closed the power station and removed the buildings at the station. he line towards Chesterfield is being used as a network rail test track, but there's been talk of reopening a station at Ollerton and a new one at the site of Thoresby Colliery to go alongside a big housing development there. The signal was put in after they made it a cycle route along with the station signs. The stations at Clifton and Harby still have some of the original buildings left. Just to the right of the signal is a little path that leads down the embankment to under the viaduct, good shortcut to the Trent Valley Way and local pub.
Thank you Ben thats great info. Its difficult when you dont know an area well and I appreciate your positive comment. I wish I had taken that path because I could of got underneath those arches 👍
