  • In this video, Paul takes delivery of his Grossmann Fat
    The GROSSMANN isolation cabinet allows you to do high-quality guitar recordings at high sound pressure without noise disturbance.
    So you can create with your amp, real speakers, and microphones high-class Guitar Recordings that reflect your sound authentically.
    The Roadbox Stage version allows even greater volume reduction. Well over 40dB!
    The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

    Very nice demo of the iso box.
    For a long-term installation I'd solder the speaker connections for reliability. There will still be vibration and those spade connectors will become loose at some time in the future.
    If you leave it set up and untouched, you may suffer some ribbon sag with a horizontally mounted ribbon mic over time. Ribbons do like to be stored vertically. So probably best if the ribbon mic can be rotated vertically after use and then laid flat again before recording, or you may find its performance dropping off in a couple of years.*
    *I have no actual idea how long it takes for a ribbon to sag, which will also depend on the ribbon thickness and material used, but I know that they will sag.

    Another great video from the Studio Rats. Because I’m not a very mechanically inclined person, it was pretty cool watching how you assembled and utilized the cab. Now, wives all over the world will be purchasing these units as birthday gifts for their guitar playing hubbies, so they can finally watch the Bachelor without the TV being on 100. 🤦‍♂️🤣

    Can you please do a comparison load boxes vs iso can ? 🧐🤔 it would be really useful

    I grabbed one of these too during quarantine - absolutely love it compared to IR’s! Sounds super natural - only small issue is there is a decent amount of lowend buildup with my dirty shirley, but a little bit of EQ takes care of it. Build quality is awesome as is customer service.
    Would love to hear examples of the matchless distorted through it as I’m about to buy a HC-30 or Chieftain - thanks!

      Have you looked at the PRS DG30? Very underrated amp by David Grissom spending 3 years with amp creator Doug Sewell that has EL84 tubes as well. If you are looking for a unique amp that has characteristics of a Tweed, Black face , Brown face, Vox, Hiwatt, Marshall 50 yet sounds like it's own thing, but can be pushed into either camp by the rear top cut, presence and mid boost settings then this amp is for you! It is extremely LUSH with blooms for days and is versatile. There is nothing that quiet sounds like it. It pairs extremely well with a DGT if you have one.

      The magic in the Matchless HC30 is the ef86 side. The left (12ax7/Lightning) side is very nice until you compare it to the other side. The EF86 has a much better gain characteristic and takes pedals way better without A-symmetrical clipping. DrZ has a great video that explains the 12ax7 vs EF86 differences.

      I could hear a bit of the bass buildup on this demo, in contrast to the first part of the Grossman review where they had the SG unit. That unit seemed a bit lean on the low end when compared to the Fat Box. I think something splitting the difference between these two would be the Goldilocks zone. My Diezel VH4 has a ton of low end so I worry that would be an issue if I bought one of these.

    Pretty slick , caught my attention. Nifty tool for recording at home or apartment . Just picked up a PS-Fryette Power Station Dual Channel Re-Amper. Let's see how that goes ☺️😜

    Great video! Thanks for sharing!
    One question - I know it has been mentioned that some isoboxes has the problem of air pressure inside the box because there's no air holes. This sometimes causes the mics to behave a bit weird and even the speakers eventually giving up.
    Do you know if this issue has been addressed in this isobox somehow?
    Thanks
    Cheers

    I can dig it! A large red numbered LED decibel meter in your vids would be helpful to give us viewers an idea of how loud it actually is in your room. Keep on rockin' out the info!

      @TheStudioRats  2 года назад +1

      Cheers top load. The only thing with a dB meter in my room is that most of the time i am monitoring through my studio monitors so it wouldn’t be helpful for watchers. But yes in this video and if i was using an amp in the room that would be helpful.

    Hi Paul, I see you have an OX box in the background. How do you feel the sound compares between the Grossman and the OX as quiet recording solutions? I currently own an OX and am considering trying an iso box to get even better sounds with my amps. TIA.

    • @TheStudioRats
      @TheStudioRats  Год назад +2

      Personally I prefer attenuators like the ox to iso cabs.

      @@TheStudioRatsinteresting, because of flexibility of IRs? Do you think that there is little or none advantages of an iso cab?

      Yes although there are already more gig sturdy versions of the fat box made by other manufacturers

  • @aristocaster

    That is clever system.
    Of course if you have small space, even that might be too much and IR's are the only solution with some load box

      You can acutally buy a Roadcase for 400€, that brings it down another 10db, down to to whisper volume.

    Let's try this again. Hi Paul! Great vids 👍 I am looking for some mics for recording in my first attempts at the home studio. Any advice ? I only have a Shure SM58

    • @TheStudioRats
      @TheStudioRats  2 года назад +1

      A 58 is absolutely fine and if that’s what you have I’d learn how to get a great tone out of that first. You could get a ribbon mic say a Royer 121 or a sontronics delta.

      @@TheStudioRats ok great ! I will stick to what I have first, great advice. Ok 👌 I will look at a ribbon as well for contrast. Thank You this helps!
