Chocks away! We're about to play a game of this new World War II tabletop miniature aircraft combat game from Warlord Games, written by renowned developer Andy Chambers.
Using the Battle of Britain starter set the guys will be playing as British Spitfires versus German Messerschmitt BF109s for a classic aerial scenario.

Managed to get an early copy of BRS and have played a number of games. Absolutely brilliant. The rules aren’t overly complex and after your first few turns it becomes natural. The trait cards are brilliant and a well placed ace pilot can completely turn the tables. My favourite part of this game has to be how turns are not fixed and actually form part of the game strategy. Well worth the money.
Nice overview game guys! My copy of the game is in the post and should be here by Friday - looking forward to playing this one.
I went with an all-in last friday and thanks to John's streams I was able to get all the army packs and aces painted in a few days. I still have to paint the core box planes but I'll have them painted with a different painting schema so I need to do some research first.
Anyway without those streams I wouldn't have even thought that I could achieve such result in so little time. Thank you so much John.
Really fun video and I liked how they explained their number of dice each time. May consider this purchase looked fun.
My Wife ordered this last night for me as a gift from my kids for Fathers Day. Can’t wait to take to the Skies.
Really excellent video guys. I picked up my basic set on Friday and played out a scenario 0 on my own. With the help of this video I now feel able to take a friend through a game. I think I may drop down to 3 or 4 aircraft each, but pull the cards in, as the expanded rules. Without the cards the planes really don't get the technical advantages of the Spitfire and Me109 and I feel that this is an essential element
As Luke Downing's comment below, I think the ability to change the order of play with tactics is absolutely brilliant. Probably as close as I am likely to get (in a miniatures game) to experience the ever changing situation in a dogfight.

I have a question about outmanoeuvring action.
Does that controlling plane must have its front arc targeting the enemy plain ( within 9”)? Or the attacking arc does not matter?
Enjoyed it very much. Well done.
I spotted a couple of things during game play which may be incorrect (I don’t have the rules for clouds to hand). I don’t think you can target aircraft through a cloud. I also spotted the burn, 180, 45 turn move which I believe is incorrect as Ed pointed out. Also if you are targeting an enemy aircraft with the ‘Outmanoeuvre’ action and it is not the closest potential target the target gets +1 to his effective pilot skill level when deciding if a roll is to be made or not. The roll itself, if taken is unmodified. I.e. if a veteran pilot tries to Outmanoeuvre a regular pilot this would normally happen automatically however, if the regular pilot is not the closest potential target he has +1 to his pilot skill which means the veteran is not of higher skill level and therefore the regular pilot gets to roll his 6 dice (pilot skill 3 + aircraft agility 3) to try and avoid being Outmanoeuvred. This may of course may just be my interpretation of what is written in the rule book and I may in fact be incorrect.Great video guys, looking forward to seeing more!

Hi chaps quick question/observation.
In Burning Advantage you 'Make a turn of 180 set at any point during the aeroplanes movement. THIS REPLACES THE NORMAL 45 DEG TURN AS EXPLAINED LATER' (rules pg14).
I spotted at least 1 aircraft making a 180 burned advantage turn then a further 45 deg turn at the end of its move... is this 'A 45 too far' ?

@@blood-red-skiestheaircomba8415 Also Master Tactician allows the planes being outmaneuvered to roll their maneuver check regardless of pilot skill. Likely representing the difficulty of outmaneuvering 2 planes at once instead of 1 plane.

I tried to play this yesterday and was kind of getting the hang of it. After watching this video, I think I'm going to be able to take the skies.

Played it with a friend who is also in Bolt Action. Both are great games.
Is this a typical game size for Blood Red Skies, or does the number of planes on the table per side increase?
JRock589 This game was played using the contents of the core box game. You can easily add another 6+ planes each side. It would just be a longer game :)
As Charlie says... add more :) we're playing 1000 point games with @12 aircraft aside quite easily in an hour&half
Interesting small game for beer and chips.
i deffo saw some dodgy "straight forward" movement going on :P ... with arcs being so important in this game i think using the movement ruler to make sure you aren`t slipping sideways is pretty important ... decent lets play though guys well done
Dodgy movement is unfortunate reality of all tabletop games that use a tape measure movement system.
Should use the plastic rulers that can be bought separately, cardboard one that comes with the core set are totally inaccurate. No excuse for wobbly dodgy forward movement as shown here!
Slim Jim there are excellent options that eliminates errors and inaccurate movement in BRS, a regular tape as used here is the worst option tbh.
its all in good spirit and a really great playthrough but not very precise.

A bit late to the party. . . At first I was put off by the entire mechanic of disadvantaged, neutral, advantaged, but the more I have watched videos such as this, and heard actual pilots praise the system , I am beginning to see this should be a fun game to play!

Not liking the “I move, you move” mechanic. As airplanes especially moving simultaneously just needs to be a key aspect...

At about 33.25 there is a dice with the RAF symbol on as a 6. Where can you get one of these?
