    So I'm a trauma therapist and personally found this really relaxing! EMDR is an awesome therapy and can be very effective. That said, if anyone has real complex trauma, it can be really dangerous to mess around with EMDR in an uncontrolled and unprofessional manner. In fact, in learning about this in school to become a therapist, they won't even tell you what the hand motions are unless you are specifically becoming trained in EMDR since it shouldn't be done casually. It's purpose is to help people who disassociate relive their trauma (and rewire their brain to help process it), but if unprepared this will just leave the person more traumatized and vulnerable. So long story short, please be careful watching these videos and maybe don't if you have trauma that hasn't been or isn't being processed with a professional

      Agree! I have CPTSD and emdr was not helpful!

    • @redwitch95
      @redwitch95 5 лет назад +79

      I'm actually really relieved to hear that - I have CPTSD and while I love both Karuna and Angelica, I can't get through their EMDR videos without feeling sick and quitting partway through. I knew that CBT is the preferred therapy for that sort of thing but I hadn't realised EMDR is actively discouraged.

    This video was really well done, as someone who’s actually been through emdr this is pretty accurate! One thing I would say is emdr is a really complex therapy that can have effects on people such as panic attacks because you’re reprocessing traumatic memories so when posting a video like this I would just keep that in mind

    Next time, everything I do is my choice
    I found the first half of this very effective, but the second round started and ended before I was ready and I tried to keep up, against my better judgement. Pretty vulnerable with an immediate impulse to comfort eat afterwards, which was enlightening to experience, as I had only sneaking suspicions I'd acquired this coping mechanism previously.
    Overall, glad to have tried this! I think EMDR might be very helpful for me!

    i do have to comment that the people bashing on this saying go see a professional are completely not realizing the privilege it is to assume that everyone could just afford a professional version of this it’s classist. not everyone could afford real sessions of this technique, i understand that this shouldn’t replace the actual session but some people (i) wish i could afford this technique and this is the only thing available and you don’t know financial status of people viewing this, check your privilege first. so please don’t just write off creators who have pure intentions and have clearly done research to mimic it and made it accessible to all in order to help heal people and especially if therapy isn’t affordable to all. i’ve been coming to this video often and this has helped me so much. anyways thank you this was so wonderfully done thank you so much i can’t stress it enough
