Seems this option is only hidden with Windows10 Home. The Windows10 Pro still allows you to use local account even with the internet connected. You may have to click on the link in the lower-left corner of the installation screen
Good video! Actually on the Pro version I think they change the wording to "join domain instead" the option is not removed at least not yet only for Home version.
This is completely correct. I set up new computers every day. When the installer asks you to connect to the Internet, refuse to do so. One button says, "I don't have Internet." Click that. Microsoft will try to entice you to connect to the network as a time saving feature; refuse again. Then you can create an offline account.

Hi Brian, in the case of Ethernet connectivity, do you need to disable the protocol, or can you merely pull the ethernet cable from the device? As of a couple weeks ago, the Pro version still offered the offline setup during install...
I just did a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro this past weekend and my installer had an option to create an offline account. I didn't disconnect my ethernet cable, either. I always create my account offline first so I can choose the local username and then I switch it to an online account so I can sync my settings between all my computers.
I saw a similar variant earlier in time. At that point, you could opt in to create a new Microsoft account, and on the Microsoft account creation menu, there was a link to use a local account instead. Did they remove this, as well? I usually ensure that the PCs I reinstall with Windows 10 are disconnected, myself. The newest thing I saw last week was that after creating a local account and logging into the desktop, I logged onto Wi-Fi in order to activate, check for updates etc. and a few seconds later, a message popped up, saying something like "Great! You are now connected to the Internet! Let us help you set up your computer! Please wait." and from there it brought me straight back to the full-screen Microsoft account menu that usually appears during setup. Now that was annoying!
Strange, I installed a new Windows 10 a few times this month, mainly on new laptops but a few on desktop machines. The never really paid much attention as to how I bypassed the Microsoft account. I seem to remember seeing the page you showed with the "enter Microsoft Account" but I clicked on "Create New Account" below that and on that next page, there was an option at the bottom to create an offline account. I certainly didn't disconnect from the Internet. It could be that the laptops and USB installation I have were older versions of Windows? I'll look out for this in the future Brian. Thanks. The other problem which many of my clients have if that they buy Microsoft Office 2019 from a shop but it doesn't come with a USB stick or DVD. My two cents: if you're doing a clean install on a laptop that doesnt have an ethernet port, you need to activate youre wifi connection. But then you're left with the online account option. Since i refuse to use that, what i did is when it asks for an online account i disabled my entire internet connection (while wifi was up, i just removed ethernet from modem), then click on "back", and then it gave me the offline account option. I have installed Windows 10 hundreds of times on many, many PCs. I've only ever used MS Account sign-in where the owner has a preference for it. All of my own machines are Local Account only. I cannot help but wonder what Microsoft gains from this policey, as it's always made the Local Account option easy to miss during installation.
I don't understand how you can go into device manager to turn off your wifi if your operating system hasn't been set up yet? Do you just turn it off physically with a switch on your actual laptop? What you showed in the video was going into device manager for which i'm not sure how you were able to do that since again the operating system wasnt finished installing
What installer is that? I just reinstalled(on Saturday 5th, October) my PC with 1903 and clearly visible the "using Offline account" option. My edition is a Hungarian Windows 10 Home x64.
Also, I just did a load a couple weeks ago with a fresh downloaded Win 10 disc and I just hit create user and worked through several sections of that process and was able to create an offline account without turning off wifi
Nor me. I switched to W10 from W7 Pro a few weeks ago. With that version you're offered the choice of a local account during the upgrade. If you're upgrading from a Home version, some are saying you have to sign up with an MS account, but I stand to be corrected.
I figured this work-around a few months ago, it's really annoying that Microsoft is hell-bent on doing it this way - all to collect user data. ("Data is the new oil", they say$$). One positive aspect to this is that once Windows is installed, you can change the settings for Updates so that you don't have to get updates from random computers, just Microsoft's servers.* And you can also make sure to uncheck the "suggested apps" crap (Candy Crush, for example, is a spawn from hell, I'm pretty sure). Do this before connecting to the internet after you re-boot, that's my suggestion. * Under update and security > delivery optimization> uncheck download from other PCs. That shouldn't even be an option: Microsoft is making the computers owned novice computer users into one huge botnet. What's the worst that could happen? .... A question not asked by Microsoft.
I dont get it... dont windows automatically get data on microsoft running machines anyway via the updates? if anything isnt this just microsoft trying to force a real identity to a machine ID? or am I missing here something and microsoft does not collect data on you when you update? im asking because if you look at the privacy options when you install you will see the data analysis section and there are only 2 options on all the other options on that list but the data analysis for updates is something special, you have the choice between giving full data analysis(whatever that means) and basic(again whatever that means). basically you will get data collected anyway from how I see it, plus microsoft never fully disclosed what data they do take when applying updates as far as I know, sure they said its on machine health but than again with their shady practices excuse me for not taking their word until we get an investigative report on what data is transferred to microsoft HQ between updates.
I totally hated it when Microsoft tries to make you sign up for an account to install Windows, and I suspect a lot of people thinks it's mandatory to have a Microsoft account to install Windows, even if the option is there not to have an account it's easy enough for people to not see that option "by designing".
i just did mine recently and i don't do online Microsoft account when setting up. i used the ultimate version or whatever it is and i did not have this issue, i forget offhandedly but there was an option there somewhere for offline account ...
Even after u make offline account. As soon as u connect to the internet its say “lets finish your settings” and send you back to make online account which you cant click “do later” to get rid off
WOW! I KNEW there was a way, as I have been doing this computing thing since the 80s (I am 70!), and I could recall the option being available back when. I have had SEVERAL tech-type people tell me that it was not possible ANY MORE; that I would HAVE to log-in through a MS account. D@MN LIARS! I bet they are all in league with Microsoft!!! lol lol lol Thank you, sir. You are the best!
How do you disable the WiFi from setup menu/process in ‘device management’ like you did there? Or is it enough to just not enter the WiFi password and therefore not connect to the network at all? Creepy Microsoft, I don’t feel free on my own computer anymore, I feel like I’m on a computer at work like your just using it on your lunch break but your watched at all times and anything you do may be used against you at a later date Linux and/or Mac are about to get a lot of converts, Linux takes some work to learn and Mac’s aren’t cheap, but both are looking worth either the learning curve or the money now, Microsoft is getting insulting
A strange thing is that I installed 5 laptops in the last two weeks and when I was finished, the status was that Windows was activated. There was a serial punched in. Strange. Does this means Windows is now completely free?
Well... It's good that they allow you to use the Windows 10 if you have no internet. I would be shocked if they didn't allow people to use the OS if no internet.
Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and did not know how to get around signing into My Microsoft account. Now that everything is set up in my name, how can I remove my account and set up offline account because I am gifting my pc to a student and do not want my Microsoft information accessible. I got a new laptop with Win10 already on it, but found a workaround, first go to Settings, Accounts, then Family & Friends (I think). Then select Add Other Account, and go from there, the Local Account option will then show up. You will need to go to Control Panel and change the Account Type, etc. Seemed to work for me.
PS: My PC also seems to run better with the offline account, vs the MS account. With the online acct, there is a lot more processes running in the background, than with the offline acct, according to Proc Exp.

thanx for the heads up brian, microsoft isbecomming more and more a creepy company, sadely we have to use their OS because of the many programs that only run on windows, cheers
I think this “have to use Microsoft” case is often overstated. For example, I was talking with someone who had an online bookkeeping business that was started using ms Windows and later switched to Ubuntu which came with a free bookkeeping program that was “superior to quick books” plus libre office has very good automated Word translation. I realize there are many cases where it is true but I think a few cases are people repeating what they heard years ago and have no idea that there are hundreds of thousands of active code contributors each year to the major Linux and other open source OSs which compete with Windows. Eventually over time more and more people will find open source projects surpass proprietary OSs and there will still be people who are better off in Ubuntu or Fedora saying that they have to use Windows. The original poster here is running Windows in a VM. I imagine he is running Linux or FreeBSD as his primary OS. A lot of people are doing this and running Windows and MacOS using GPU (PCIe) pass through

Music production: If you have to use ProTools, I’ll accept needing Windows with this caveat, perhaps you don’t want to or can’t take the time to learn reaper, mixbus (which is missing basic functionality but sounds better than ProTools, so it can be used as a plugin in any DAW) or Bitwig (Ableton on steroids, I think). None of these DAWs are open source but all run in Linux. Also check out the sample of Ardour in Fedora Jam. I realize that Ardour probably isn’t feature rich enough but the sample music sounds better than 90% of all music production I have heard. I don’t have the time to investigate using it myself, but I am impressed with someone’s ability using it which brings me back to question the need for Windows. I did see the program you mentioned in Ubuntu Studio, I assume that you are investigating Linux so you probably know about reaper. I am still using Logic on a Mac which is similar to using Windows. I see my resistance to migrating as resistance to learning a new DAW but the 3 I mentioned work on all 3 platforms, for what it’s worth
I don't necessarily have a problem connecting to my Microsoft account. My primary objection to this is that I need an offline account for my initial setup. If Microsoft forces all users to use a Microsoft account in the future, I will have no way of accessing LastPass. Microsoft's decision would effectively force me to use a weaker password to access my Microsoft account.

Just don't allow it to connect to WiFi in the first place. Personally, I install the updates and connect to internet only after the installation is complete and Windows is running.

replace "Wi-Fi" to whatever you see on the screen
and you will be able to use offline account.
They use it to track everything you do.
Its a virtual machine like I said in the video. You would need to disconnect your wifi.
Is this with version 1909? Because I have installed many with 1903 and no such problem. But I always use PRO
Dude thank you SO MUCH. Worked like a charm. Thanks microsoft for updates we never asked for!
What installer is that? I just reinstalled(on Saturday 5th, October) my PC with 1903 and clearly visible the "using Offline account" option. My edition is a Hungarian Windows 10 Home x64.
Thank you this helped me a lot.
Thanks for this. I'm helping my dad setup a PC for my Aunt over skype and was able to send him all the screen shots as to how to do it.
Also, I just did a load a couple weeks ago with a fresh downloaded Win 10 disc and I just hit create user and worked through several sections of that process and was able to create an offline account without turning off wifi
Wish I knew this before setting my PC up. I now know for the future though lol.
Thanks for the video
Its hard to keep up with all this stuff sometimes.
@@Britec09 very true. Thank God for the internet and so many dedicated people to report this stuff to people not in the know
I didn't disconnect any internet connection yet managed to created offline account. 🧡
Just installed two Windows 10 machines last week. Wish I watch this video earlier. Damn.
I have never seen any of this during a W10 install.
Not sure what version of W10 you're installing
Nor me. I switched to W10 from W7 Pro a few weeks ago. With that version you're offered the choice of a local account during the upgrade. If you're upgrading from a Home version, some are saying you have to sign up with an MS account, but I stand to be corrected.
This no longer works. If you want to install this on an offline computer, microsoft just gives you a link to "fix your internet connection".
Thank you britec you and Carey are the best
Windows 10. The OS that won't run without them looking over your shoulder. Thanks very much for this video!
Yesterday I did an install of Windows 10 Pro, and with it, I had the option to go on an off-line account.
I totally hated it when Microsoft tries to make you sign up for an account to install Windows, and I suspect a lot of people thinks it's mandatory to have a Microsoft account to install Windows, even if the option is there not to have an account it's easy enough for people to not see that option "by designing".
I have tried similar to this and the install failed every time
Great as always
Tnx Brian
Glad you liked it.
Thank You, Thank You - Thank You!!!
I've been trying to figure this out for days.
What you recommend worked perfectly!
i just did mine recently and i don't do online Microsoft account when setting up. i used the ultimate version or whatever it is and i did not have this issue, i forget offhandedly but there was an option there somewhere for offline account ...
Using an offline account doesn't let me use stuff like Your Phone and clipboard history. Any workaround for that?
Even after u make offline account. As soon as u connect to the internet its say “lets finish your settings” and send you back to make online account which you cant click “do later” to get rid off
It would be helpful if you'd tell us what an offline account is and why we might want one.
WOW! I KNEW there was a way, as I have been doing this computing thing since the 80s (I am 70!), and I could recall the option being available back when.
I have had SEVERAL tech-type people tell me that it was not possible ANY MORE; that I would HAVE to log-in through a MS account. D@MN LIARS! I bet they are all in league with Microsoft!!! lol lol lol
Thank you, sir. You are the best!
You're welcome
Our better yet, switch to Linux, it's much better
yeah i recommend linux sir, im bout to switch to it when win7 dies
Thank you sir =) So grateful for videos like this.
I noticed this last week with a 1903 build. Yea, sneaky indeed.
Yeah, Microsoft have reached a new low
How do you disable the WiFi from setup menu/process in ‘device management’ like you did there? Or is it enough to just not enter the WiFi password and therefore not connect to the network at all?
Creepy Microsoft, I don’t feel free on my own computer anymore, I feel like I’m on a computer at work like your just using it on your lunch break but your watched at all times and anything you do may be used against you at a later date
Linux and/or Mac are about to get a lot of converts, Linux takes some work to learn and Mac’s aren’t cheap, but both are looking worth either the learning curve or the money now, Microsoft is getting insulting
If it's hidden, then it's NOT removed altogether..
A strange thing is that I installed 5 laptops in the last two weeks and when I was finished, the status was that Windows was activated. There was a serial punched in. Strange. Does this means Windows is now completely free?
If the PC came with an applicable license. Its pulling it from the bios.
I installed an online account. If I reinstall Windows 10, would I be able to set an offline account? Or would it remember the internet setting?
WhistleFantasy online only
Can I create an offline Microsoft account and use it to run my Microsoft office 2016 offline?
Thank you.
😂😂😂Dammit Brian, I could have done with this 2 days ago. Eventually figured out to disable the wifi after messing around with it for a while.
Can you confirm that a user will get full access to all Windows features after activating it using a product key but without creating an online accoun?
is this on 1903 and higher or 1909 and up?
That option will affect both
Excellent advice. It worked for me!
thanx for the heads up brian, microsoft isbecomming more and more a creepy company, sadely we have to use their OS because of the many programs that only run on windows, cheers
I agree Ronny
A lot of people are doing this and running Windows and MacOS using GPU (PCIe) pass through
@@iflnr978 yep ryon, for certain programs linux is fine, but for my graphic, photo, and music creation programs this is not possible
if i head to linux is have to work in LMMS music),wich is very basic,so i have to stick with windows,or maybe reacos if they can make new window programs run on it,we will see what the future brings
@@iflnr978 thanx,but i use fla studio,so,linux is a nogo
Is it a benefit after installing Windows other that booting directly without password?
Can boot as Microsoft account without query for password?
I never set a password for any of my computers and it never prompts me for one.
And you're using Microsoft account
now my question is... when you reconnect the internet is it going to nag you to have an account?
On the Pro version, you select work account and you can create an offline account
My windows has my email but if want to remove it, it just doesnt
so i click on remove it sends me to microsoft gives me the option to remove it there but its beeing removed plis help
I still see the "Use an offline account" still. (Yes, it is version 1903). But I guess the issue is only related to Home.
i m in a VM .... just disabled the network inside the vm app ... .no need to plug in or out any cables this way .... works
Thanks! this was really helpful
I was able to easily bypass the online Microsoft account by installing Linux
which virtual software is that pl.
virtualbox
I got a new surface pro today and was so frustrated i just turned off the machine during setup. While rebooting it installed an update and bypasses this step into local account creation. When in doubt rage quit? Hehe
Ctrl Shift F3 - create account from cmd - add to administrator - reboot - disconnect from the web - create a local account - boot into windows- login to the first account - delete the second account - reboot - done!
I never install it online to begin with, I don't want to sit around waiting for it to download a bunch of garbage, just get on with the install....
What do you do when it's a laptop that won't let you disable the WiFi?
Just don't allow it to connect to WiFi in the first place. If I remember correctly, at an earlier stage the installer asks for internet connection to install updates, and that's how it can access internet. Personally, I install the updates and connect to internet only after the installation is complete and Windows is running.
ok it's done also on win pro but it made a big problem it stopped a lot of internet services which makes some programs doesn't work like speedtest
I am pretty sure the offline account option is still there on the Pro and Enterprise versions
I unplugged internet that moment, also works.
I just disconnect my internet. So annoying cause i re install windows at work all the time and have to make offline account
Thanks man, you're the people's champ!
Sad to all the sheeple who HAVE TO use Windows 10. If Canonical or Red Hat did this they would be pinned to the cross. The day is coming where more people will be woke to better alternatives to Windows and Msft.
