  • It's been three months, going on four, since we have opened our second coffee shop. I'm trying to navigate what it looks like to be a successful business owner and maintain my own sanity. It's a difficult decision about where to work, where to spend my time, and how to spend my time. If I'm holding still I feel like I'm missing something.

I appreciate your honesty! It has been such a blessing to me to follow along on your expansion journey as we prepare to open our cafe. Thank you for bringing us along. I’m not sure if you’ve heard of Mike Michalowic (super hard last name I know I butchered it) but he has some amazing business books. Clockwork sounds like a good place to start. It’s all about how to put plans in place so you can stop working IN your business and focus on working ON your business. I think I’ve listened to all of his books on double time and have found them very helpful. 🙂

Where are you ordering your merchandise from?

We order our shirts through a local company called Shadows Embroidery. We have a graphic designer who helps us to come up with the designs. We order our cups through Healthy Human. Our stickers we order through Sticker Mule. Our hats we use a local embroidery shop! :)

Did you work in a coffee shop prior to opening your 1st business? If not, how did you learn how to make all the drinks?

I did work in coffee before! However, when we opened our shop we made our own recipes and did things differently so that we were unique! :)

Im sure you have had to grow pretty thick skin to do this and to move to where you are at now, and that is great! No one can even think or guess at what it might be like in your shoes! Don't every stray from these roots! They have made you! As I do miss the old days and hardly know who is working anymore... the girls have a way of connecting with you.. and i hope that stays that way... a smile and how is your day going from a coffee shop can go ALONG WAY... as a customer from day one.... sometimes you do not know what we are going through and just how much your coffee shop has touched my life! So proud of you guys!

Wow, I cannot tell you how perfectly timed your comment is for me to sit down and read. The past few days have been extremely hard on me. The reason? I don't have as thick of skin as I wish I did. Thank you for your sweet comment about how this shop has touched your life. I have given it my all- time, sweat, tears, sleepless days and nights. It's been my baby. I will continue to get thicker skin, but hopefully never so thick that I lose out on the beautiful parts of it. I know that things are different for you as customer with our growth, but I hope that my training and the time I've given all 42 of them has still come through in a way that is still the same feeling. I truly take my time on every single one of them to make sure that the customers are getting the best experience possible. Some employees do fall short, but all humans do.
