Seder, well that was a survivor. Lord have mercy. I’ve never heard of someone living through so much, let alone an old man like that. His life is one to be emulated . To be such a good man like that is my dream. Selfless and kind, full of generosity. God bless all folk like him.
Something kept him alive just long enough to say his killers name out loud
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller Ever wonder what goes wrong in a person to make them so evil?. Mr. Seder sure had a will to live. That would be hard to survive for anyone especially a 79 yr. old. Poor old man begged for his life.
God kept doctor Seder alive and got him out of there so justice could prevail and others not hurt. He was a beautiful man. Thanks JD 😊
💜
Hello, JD, and thank you for another rivetting tale. It's hard to comprehend how a 79 man could survive so much torture and pain; what determination to live he surely had. It's good to know the three men were brought to justice. What a waste of a fine philanthropist who clearly had more years ahead of him. Many thanks, from Ruth x
Well said Ruth! Have a blessed day my friend
Great story!! Thanks for the great compilation and your narration kept me glued to my chair.
Thank you my friend, have a blessed day!
I'm running 120 liters of fruit and sugar wash through the pot still today J.D!, I gotta run all that again tomorrow... smooth up them nasty notes! I know it ain't shine but I am learnt all my tricks from PopCorn and other Appalachian Moonshiners so I figure I am at least a small part of a big story. Love these tales man, you keep it up you hear?
Nothing like making your own liquor !!!
Shine on !!!
💯
Try running 2 small thumper kegs / doubler ....
It will smooth out the burn and give you a triple Distillation on one run ....
I use 2 half gallon mason jars !!!!
@@mudgripsandmoonshine252 I'm saving up for that, i just have a reflux and an alembic but, yep, once I get my head around thumpers it'll be a party at my place cuz! Will save an extra day for me and the booze'll be sweeter! So glad I found this craft old timer, any tips are welcome! I might try and video some of my shennanigans so you can tell me what I'm doing wrong! I'll keep you posted!
sounds like fun brother, don't blow nothing up!
Nice
A brilliant story as ever. Greetings from the North of England
Thank you so much Swampy! Greetings from the mountains of East Tennessee
I lived in Huntington, WV, while I worked for the C&O RR. I have never heard this story before. Thank you for telling me. How he could be so mean to someone who tried to help his, is something I don't understand. Greed has many faces.
I hope this story gets out in the Huntington area. I’m sure 99% of the people living there have no idea about it. It literally was lost history before this video even though it was one of the top stories in the nation in 1937.
Oh my goodness. I have recently found your channel. I am from W.V. I thank you more than you know. I have always loved listening to these stories. I haven't heard any since my grandpa passed. I am going blind now that I am the grandma. Thank you so very much for having this channel.
Thank you so much Karen, I’m so glad to have you here!
May The Good Lord Bless you and yours Karen. Take care and be safe. J. R. R.
This one of the best stories you've told! Unbelievable!
Thank you Traci! This poor fella's story had never been told before and was almost lost to the hands of time.
I'm all over that part of WV on a regular basis, and never knew this story. Great job JD.
Thanks Rusty, What you doing up that away?

Wow!!!!!!!! What an amazing story! Mr Seder was a tough man indeed! I’ve never heard this but I love it! Mr Seder had true grit!! What a shame he passed away, but in the end, he won after all! Great story JD! Keep up the good work! Blessings always my dear friend! ❤️😊✝️
Thank you Betty! Be blessed
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller You are most welcome JD! ❤️😊✝️
Some people are Nordic, maybe even moonshiners, with characteristics that of an ermine, an ermine is a color changing weasel that lives in the far north. I love 💟 these Appalachian Story's! I'm so glad that these Appalachian's Story's are being made, they're fabulous story's that I remember my Dad Frank telling us when we were kids sitting around the bonfire. I absolutely love 💕 these Appalachian Story's shows! They are the best!
Thank you so much!
What a very sad story. Swift justice was served. I pray that they meant what they said about repentance, but it takes more than that, they MUST believe in Jesus Christ. Who He was and is. Nothing surprises me these days. People have always been evil. I’ll NEVER get use to it. Thanks for sharing JD.
Amen
A great telling of a little known story. It shouldn’t surprise us that old stories reveal lessons for the present day. The saying “everything old is new again” is a lesson unto itself. Your story telling reveals just that, while delivering a memorable story. Thank you 😊
Thank you so much, Beth. I really appreciate you watching these stories and always enjoy your comments.
Wow! That was a powerful and very well told story! Thank you JD! I also am impressed by the music you chose to play through out the video. God bless you JD! From Canadice NY ❤
Thank you so much for noticing the music! Lots of folks don't know it, but im a lifelong musician with a bachelors, masters and doctorate in music and I taught orchestra in public schools for 22 years. Most of the music on this channel is music I wrote and played. :)
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller wow! That awesome! You have a real gift! Xo
Another one bites the dust, thank you JD. ❤👍🍁
thanks Marion :)
Amazing story, I was born and raised in Huntington, I have pictures of my great grandma and mawmaw walking 4 th avenue with their Sunday best, big ole pretty hat w/flowers and all..lol. I tell ya one thing it sure has changed over the years. Thanks for the stories, man. All these names are the same surnames of folks I grew up with and related to. It's wild to think that, more than likely, some of those hometown folks with the same last names are in some way related and when you really think about it. It wasn't that long ago. My pawpaw would've been a teenager when that hanging took place. I wish he was still around to ask him about what he remembered. Love these stories , keep em coming, brother.
Thanks for sharing that Michael, and glad you enjoyed this story almost lost to time
Great entertainment here.
hope you enjoy this one brother
Exactly Right 💯
Great story. I am on a fixed income so can't afford to buy your book unfortunately, but to tell the truth as much as I would love to read the stories it wouldn't be the same as your great voice telling me the story. ❤❤❤❤❤
No worries my friend, every time you watch these videos, like and comment, you ARE supporting this channel .and I thank you so much 😊
Get a library card if you can and get books online so you can borrow and read on a laptop, phone or computer…providing it’s avail in your area of course
Well told JD, thank you for these videos. Much respect, big hugs❤❤
You are so welcome 🤗
JD that was a tremendous story. God allowed poor Dr. Seder the strength to give witness of who had done this terrible crime.
Thank you Melissa, Dr. Seder's story was the front page of every newspaper in 1937, yet, this is the first time in 75 years his story has been told. It was nearly lost to time.
Why I like this channel so much. I remember as a child ohh about 5-6 years old. I and my dad would sit in the car and listen to stories from the 1940's. Because we had no TV at that time. These stories would make you see everything the story would tell.
Now JD has filled that gap because he has the same way of storytelling.
So Thank you JD you do such a great job here. If I weren't disabled I would come up there just to meet you and shake your hand. 👌👍
I really appreciate that my friend
The is the finest stories our there my brother 👍
Thank you so much! This stories are based of facts and history too, preciate you watching and commenting. Have a blessed day
Hello JD! Dang it, how terrible what the doctor endured. I’m glad he survived and cruelty doesn’t even describe what he went through.
At least he lived long enough to tell who had done it.
Have a blessed night!
Hi Willow, hope you’re having a blessed day. Thanks so much for dropping in and as always and I enjoy reading your comments take care of yourself.
Love to listen to your stories of the past. Hope you never run out of them.❤🙏
Thank you so much appreciate your support, my friend
What a story, so sorry for the Doctor Seder. What suffering he went through.
And horrible, evil men.
His story was nearly lost to the hands of time
This heartbreaking story had me on the edge of my seat! That is without doubt one of the most evil crimes ever to take place.
They were pure evil for sure!
I love this channel and so glad to have run into it. I love everything country, the music, the boots, the log houses, Jonny Cash, you name it. I love this channel and when I listen to the stories, I almost wish I was right there while it was happening. Blessings to you all. A pastor, in a city, in New Jersey. Blessings
Well, we’re certainly glad to have you here my friend pull up a chair and make yourself at home
You really had me siiting on the edge of my chair , hoping the good doctor would eventually survive . This Booth character must have been a psychopath due to the lack of empathy but mostly the lack of fear concerning his upcoming death . A top notch story again , greetings from Belgium.
Thank you so much my friend greetings from the mountains of East Tennessee on the other side of the world
A story about my homestate thanks jd and thanks for making another great video and good luck with the books

What a legend, the good doctor was determined to survive long enough to see his cowardly attackers held accountable.

Moundtown, W.V. here. Thanks for another great story. I liked the opening shot of the New River arch bridge. If you haven't yet, hope one day you get to see it's undercarriage on a white water raft. There's a reason we're wild, wonderful, and almost like heaven. Not that I'm picking sides😊. Thank you for continuing to entertain and educate me on my roots. God bless. Still praying and fingers crossed for that 💎 play button.
Thanks for noticing that shot! I wanted the video to say "authentic West Virginia" from the very start. There are several shots throughout the video I filmed in West Virginia
Hey JD! Thank you for everything that u do my brother! Your content is str8 fire!
Whats the name of the bridge in w.virginia @ the 0:29 mark? Stay blessed partner! 🙏
Thank you, Tommy that bridge was filmed in West Virginia along with all the other footage in this video. It’s called the new river gorge bridge

This should be a feature film...my first thought was Sir Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Seder. What an amazing story!
Thank you for that!
Wow. What isn amazing story.
Thank you 😊
Wow... a modern-day Job (relatively speaking). The devil put him through hell, but the Lord made sure he had justice, in the end. Thx, JD! ~Bama
Well, said my friend I didn’t even make that connection until you said it
Excellent.
Many thanks!
“The Good Doctor”-a name given to medical doctors.
Thanks for watching my friend. Have a wonderful day.
Hi JD. Love your stories! I have a question. Does your book contain the same stories that we hear on your vlog?
Some of them, but it's a totally different experience to read them absent of a video. Sales of the book help me offset the costs of producing these videos. Take this video here for instance. I spent 6 hours Saturday researching/writing, 3 hours on Sunday recording the VoiceOver, and 16 hours Monday/Tuesday making the video. I do my best to make them as historically accurate as possible. Same with the book, they are stories that have nearly been lost to time. Thanks for your support Barbara!
Great show
thank you!
Wow 😮
Thanks for watching my friend

My great great grandfather was the assistant deputy warden for moundsville his name is literally carved into the steps leading to the prison. I bet he’d have a story about these men. My dad tells me about all the stories he told em as a kid and he secret drawers in his bedroom filled with shanks and confiscated contraband from the prisoners. Assistant deputy warden Doty
Wow, thanks for sharing that
JD, the scene at the beginning of vid, with that huge bridge over a valley: where is that? Road? City/state?
That is the famous new river gorge bridge, this entire video was shot on location in West Virginia
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller thank you, Sir. I’m adding this location to my phone of roads to NEVER drive down. Just watching that bridge in the vid sent my heart racing! All I could think is: EARTHQUAKE! Silly, I know. But that looks scary.
@@CJWrightRealtor The from the water below is breathtaking
Hey Jd
And the streets were far safer back then, too. I grew up in South Caolina in the late 60's and early 70's. We lived in an old, turn of the century farmhouse without a/c. We left the doors and windiws open at night for the cool air to circulate. No one ever harmed us! You couldn't pay me to do that again. My doors stay locked 24/7 now.
well said Sir
By golly, I think that there good doctor had one stong will. ❤
he sure did!
This'n breaks my heart. Glad the sweet feller lived ti get his captors caught and justice served. But, knowing he was that good and the support he gave to that ole turd who was black from the inside out. How dies a person turn so bad? It's sure a wonder. Glad the good ole doc didn't die in that shaft. Glad he knew Jesus and shared His love with others. His life tells you he is alive in Glory! Praise God for that!
amen, well said. Im thankful he was able to name his killer here on this earth
Such a sad story. Justice was served.
Amen brother

What a story! He was a real fighter! Wow! His kidnappers deserved absolutely NO MERCY!!!
I loved that the justice system didn't show any mercy
Omg😢
Jesus, the old doc's a BEAST! Not sure why that's surprising though, people were built different back then.
heck yeah, surviving the Civil War and Great Depression will do that to ya!
I worked I'm Huntington and lived in the Town on Wayne I've never heard this story.
It was almost lost to the hands of time
Everything Dr Seder did for Booth, only to have that scoundrel kidnap him and torture him. Just goes to show how bad certain people can be.
Amen brother
Well admittedly I wasn't smiling like I was during the tin roof. But still a great story.
A totally different story, but Dr. Seder's story hadn't been told since 1938 and I didn't want it to be forgotten

They sure did
Dr. Seder lived the life Jesus instructed us all to do. Help the poor and not to horde your money. I keep hearing in my head, no good deed goes unpunished. Sometimes we help the wrong people. Sad ending to a good man and three bad men who deserved no mercy found none.
Amen very well. Said my friend. Have a blessed day.
I wonder if it's only us folk that call it, "the War Between the States", instead of the "Civil War". I've wondered this, since going to school, in 1963, Bethesda, Maryland. It was a strange thing, as a child, to be told that I was saying it incorrectly at school.
As a Catholic, I know I'm supposed to be against capital punishment, but I'm not there, yet. I do pray for the souls of criminals, that have hurt others, though. Horrific story.
I use both terms interchangeably, I know lots of folks who get really bent out of shape about it when I call it the War Between the States. Yet, that's what my Great Grandpa called it. I actually spent a substantial amount of time researching the phrase. It dates all the way back to the war itself, yet propaganda on both sides of the war had their own preferred terms and frowned on anyone deviating from their preferred talking points. After all, they had to sell the war to the public. Even in Europe, they had specific terms like the war between the United States and the Confederate States for the war to not offend political leaders who were pulling the strings of the war. In the end it was a war between the states... and that's why I use the phrase... as many folks did during the war.
Here in Georgia we still refer to it as the War of Northern Aggression
And it was exactly that.
We have long since made a full recovery from the war but never recovered from the tyranny that followed the war that many refer to as reconstruction.
I wonder if there's an Appalachian man that grew up in Appalachia but became a Chicago gangster
I’m sure there is
Lord, that poor doctor. That ain't right
That was a heck of a way to go out of this earth after the way he had lived his life
I want to say after all of that, I hope God granted him into heaven and what he did on earth allowed him on
Wow if I were there and then those 3 demons would not have made it a day longer when it was found out what they done that man
well said James, they were pure evil
Sad story
Yes sir
Wish justice were that swift today. Fitting that they cried when sentenced. Cowards.
Agreed
I've toured that prison
That’s awesome man I bet that’s a cool place
Didn’t the doctor have his own companion with him?
It must be a different story but it’s similar to this one.
Should have listened to his son😊
