- Not much for notes this week. I managed to get none other than Robert Evans of the Behind the Bastards podcast on to talk about how he became a lefty, what that means, and how he got doing what he's doing. Check out Behind the Bastards, Uprising, and Robert's previous work on I Heart Radio. Make sure to check out his book, The War on Everyone and follow him on Twitter @IwriteOk

It’s kinda weird to see Robert’s face while he talks.. I hear his voice for hours every week listening to his various podcasts. Love ya Robert, thanks for all the work you do
didn't look up videos of Robert talking until this morning, after listening to his podcasts for years. Agreed that it is weird.
I imagined him to look so different. I don't even know why
He looks like all the Beatles, mashed up into one person.
Robert Evans is a national treasure. I'm surprised Nic Cage hasn't tried to steal him yet
Too busy with his dinosaur bone habit
When they're talking about coups at the end, it's important to note that this was released in 2020 on December 6 - exactly a month before the attempted election coup.
Robert really is the go to guy when it comes to fascism
And brain damaged people pretending to be doctors.
I absolutely love Robert Evans. Thanks for this interview!
You bet, I'm glad you enjoyed it
Great interview with a great journalist/machete wielder!
Thanks, I should have gotten him to show off his machete collection. :D
@CTE Brain Da, da... Back to Moscow with you.
Don't you mean Reverend Doctor of macheticine?
He is a machete afishionado.
Excellent episode of "Behind Behind the Bastards"
Thanks so much. I hope you check out and enjoy my other interviews too :)
It's so weird seeing Robert Evans. I'm used to him being a disembodied voice in my head.
I enjoyed this interview
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I hope you enjoy the other interviews I've done too
Wow more people should listen to this this is great
Thank you very much
The thing I've always been interested in wrt Evans is the volumes of material he must get through. But, if you take his estimate at 31:00 literally (the high and low ends of words and hours, 70K and 6, respectively), that's a 200 page book in 6 hours, which is a rate of about 200 words a minute, which isn't particularly fast. Persistence and making the time matters, though.
I think that's slightly unfair, because we're talking about non-fiction here. I'm fully with you for fiction books where in my high time I could reach 120 pages per hour (and remembering stuff afterwards), but non-fiction is a lot slower to read.
"Even the suburbs know power is getting too crooked to stand on its own feet for much longer than it has.
So I don't wanna kill a cop!
What I want is neighborhoods where they don't have to get called when the sht goes down.
Cause our friends they are enough, and out neighbors have enough.
And finally we're enough."

Just found the channel. I've long described my anarchism as a deep skepticism applied broadly where nothin is sacred or off-limits and anything that can't be justified should be abolished and, if necessary, replaced, an aversion to power and unjustified or unwarranted authority, and arbitrary, involuntary, inherently coercive hierarchical relationships. But it really starts with that skepticism.
I'd already realized I was an anarchist by the time I discovered the "Skeptic/Atheist Community™️®️©️" and I didn't hang around too long. I felt it was dominated by mostly cis-het "white" males seeking victim status (I'm a lifelong, involuntary anti-theist and it's gotta lotta issues but nothin like that of systemically oppressed and brutalized demographics cause I can shut up but their characteristics are immutable and usually difficult or impossible to hide), they often lived fairly comfortable lives and are otherwise EXCRUCIATINGLY ordinary people who have failed miserably to apply that rationalist, data-driven, evidence based, skepticism to anything at all beyond the god question and think answering that one question a certain way warrants a club lol I popped in and out for a while but once many made it clear that they weren't interested in anything but being atheist normalization/ assimilation advocacy groups using respectability politics to say "I'm just like a godless you!" with the frequently hostile responses that seemed anything like a social justice cause, being overly political, critical of the status quo, or questioning some of their more problematic ideas about things like Islam.
It was odd cause in some ways it was the home of steadfast and proud "progressivism" cause they so often faced off with religious reaction. But it was also full of anti-Islamic bigotry and unwilling to go beyond the 5head super-centrist responses like "I think a mix of socialism and capitalism is best, like Norway, and get money out of politics so it won't be corrupt anymore" was about as far as they'd generally go. And that's only if they weren't in the Reason Magazine right-libertarian crowd. It was kinda to the left of mainline politics, but just barely. And the flag waving, support the troops, cops are great, etc, kinda bs was near constant everywhere I saw and seemed to be linked to their almost pathological need to maintain the calcified "but I'm just like you!!!" face that comes with respectability politics and assimilationism.
So I'd largely bailed by the time it all started lurching right. Obviously there were plenty who weren't like this, but way too many seemed to be. It wasn't til a little later that I came across people and groups/orgs who actually were applying that skepticism broadly lol Glad to find another!

Was recommended this video by a friend. Very interesting watch. I can agree with where the two would like to see things end up, but have a hard time agreeing with the issues which cause the problem and how to solve them. Great discussion though!
@32:18
I always thought I was alone in this :)
What a cool man.
I didn't know Robert was ever married.
I always thought was a leftist , but Behind the Bastards made me realise that I was an anarchist. Then I heard about Rojava, read Bookchin, now I'm more of a Municipalist. So I guess Robert's plan did work :p
anarchists ARE leftists, though.
Dudeeee saaame. Robert did that to meee.
You will find it hard to take serious anarchists that arent left.
Dude, you're so unique.
@@marocat4749 ancaps aren't anarchists bc capitalism is inherently hierarchical
My up bringing and political journey is about the exact same as him but joined the military which sped it up a bit.
32:00 he's describing my entire childhood (at least the reading part) down to a tee. I would read during dinner and get yelled at and also read during class when I should be paying attention to the lecture
I wonder how this interview would have gone a month later
What’d I miss?
Oh shit, this was before the Capitol storming! My bad.
Glad to see not all libratarians are a lost cause!
I need a link to his new book!
Me too :)
Man I would love to help with baseline Asia knowledge
I’ve never heard of invasive snapping turtles 🐢 😂
thats our robert the great, ( behind the bastards) big fan here
I enjoy Behind the Bastards podcast. So many more bastards out there to make née episodes.
It's so weird that this aired BEFORE the January 6th insurection
You mean the insurrection where no one but the FBI and cops who staged it… had one? The insurrection where Epps and his bullhorn calling everyone to go into the Capitol is NOT in jail?? But grandma who bought a ticket to DC that day is having her house front door kicked in?? Please enlighten me on the Jan 6 false flag event. I’ll wait…
@@lolainma3218 🤣
Chuck schumer's erection? Or the thing that AOC said was staged?
networks of groups of about 150 people distributed in area and labour focus.
Robert Evans's anarchism sounds a loot like anarcho-frontierism.
Is that a greek flag in the BG?
I took a quick look and it does appear to be the Greek flag
Is that the Greek flag back there
Does anyone know why there is a greek flag on Robert's wall?
Robert really out here correcting somebody elses pronunciation. Lmao
To be fair, he was right. 🤣
Yeah, every time he tries to say the name of any town in Washington I cringe horribly. He pronounced Spokane “Spow-Kane”.
It's awesome to hear about all the neat things you reported on in the last few years, where the truth was 100% different from what was sold to us. But we don't talk about that.
nice to name a face to a put
I really don't understand how the word tankie is still being used. The USSR died 30 years ago. Whose tanks are the rooting for? Russia is no longer communist. North Korea? Seriously-- what is a tankie today?
I keep trying to find out and not succeeding, so I suspect there is no real answer
I would guess that the generally agreed upon definition for tankie has changed.
"Tankies" today are people who defend those actions of the past. And while it's true that the term is sometimes misapplied, it's not completely free of value. A tankie today might be someone who wants to imprison Trump voters (and not just insurrectionists). Or they might defend Putin's war of aggression (sidenote: Tankies are usually morons who lack some basic understanding, so they might believe Putin to be on the political left - which is of course horribly laughable). Or they might celebrate the USSR and their crimes against humanity. This last one again shows the lack of basic understanding. They might have reached a point where they realize that capitalism is garbage, but instead of a differentiated look on nations that started out with socialist ideals which got perverted, they unthinkingly defend them - even when they reach a point where they have nothing left to do with being on the left. And that's the big point: A tanky will be on "team left", even if others who pretend to be on that team become bastards.
@@DrZaius3141 Thanks! Good to know.
Rob is a really troubling character. Plays anarchist. But peddles the easy bottom line. Think harder
He's a liberal, for all intents and purposes and i'm not even a particularly devout communist. He peddled thinly-disguised Zionism for years until it fell out of fashion and his liberal interventionism has never been a secret. He's a fox in the henhouse and i wish more people would acknowledge it.
@@willshogren1987
So, you think we shouldn't have invaded Nazi Germany? Also, can you define a "liberal" for me? I've been keeping an informal tally, the only people as bad at defining "liberal" as literal neo-Nazis are the brainlet quasi-communists on the internet.
P.S. BTW, some of the first Israeli settlers back in 1940's and 50's were pretty much as close to communists anything successful has ever gotten; and I mean actual communists with coops, communal living, no community member left behind and all, not a "communist" like a weird internet nerd who thinks Robert is a "fox in a henhouse". BTW, Karl Marx himself was a liberal, a thing that's not exclusionary of being a communist as well.
Another fraud leftist
@@AnEntropyFanZionism is colonialism.
Upholding kibbutzim as the communist ideal is defending settler-colonialism. You should be disgusted in yourself.
Robert Evans collaborates with the feds and he works for an organization which is part funded by a CIA cutout.
Robert Evans is where the radical left should be, not how ridiculously that much further that it has become. It's really ironic for him to call other people toxic though.
